Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) needs rougly P30M more to fund SEAG athletes

The Philippine Olympic Commission (POC) estimates that a budget of around Php100,000 per delegate is needed in order for the Philippines to participate in the upcoming 2011 Southeast Asian Game (SEAG) this November 11-22 in Palembang and Jakarta, Indonesia. Currently, Team Philippines has about 600 athletes for the SEAG. So this means, a total of P60M is needed.

So far, news reports indicate that the POC has already accumulated P30M. So they need roughly another P30M. According to news, POC president Peping Cojuangco is trying to get the support of PLDT and Smart thought business man Manny V. Pangilinan. And we all know that MVP is such a big supporter of Philippine Sports. POC is also looking at getting financial assistance from the Pagcor, PCSO, and private companies willing to give aid.

How can the Filipino athlete compete in the 2011 SEAG if he cannot be there to begin with? The supposedly Php100,000 per delegate budget will cover the athlete’s roundtrip airfare, board and lodging, uniforms and training gear, and other equipment.
