The Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) is now busy preparing for the 7th Asian Girls (18 and below) Volleyball tournament on October 11-18, 2008 at the Philsports Arena.
PVF president Pedro Mendoza was happy to announce that Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) allowed us to host this international event to strengthen the grassroot level of Philippine Volleyball.
“It is a great pleasure for our country to host this (Asian Youth Girl’s) international grassroots event. Yes our RP girls team will also compete there,” Mendoza said.
The countries participating in this 18 and below meet are Japan (defending champion), Australia, China, Chinese-Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Philippines.
“The Asian Volleyball Confederation and the FIVB have wished us good luck with our hosting. It is also good to know that there will be more countries which will attend,” Mendoza said.
The last time the Philippines hosted Asian Youth Girl’s championship was 2005 in Mandaue City, Cebu, wherein China ruled.
“We at the PVF are very serious to bring volleyball back to our country’s sporting map,” according to Mendoza.
“At the same time, we are very determined to develop and hone our girls team to become members of our national women’s senior team too,” Mendoza said.
However, PVF have selected 18 players to be members of the National Women’s volleyball squad that will join future international tournaments.
