Philippines is being represented by two beach volleyball teams coming from Ateneo de Manila University (Alysa Valdez – Bea Tan) and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (Erika Camille Verano – Apple Eve Saraum) in the July 15-20, 2011 1st Asian University Beach Volleyball in Laizhou, China.
They finished 3rd in their respective groups during the eliminations round and advanced to the quarter finals stage. This tournament is being organized by the Asia University Sports Federation and is being participated by Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Sri-Lanka, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and U.A.E. The Philippine National Games shall become a yearly national championships for all sports – to assess the expanse of athletic potentials as by-product of your national programs, to serve as the ultimate challenge grounds to bring out the best of the national crop and the emerging ones, and finally, to serve as the final “ranking and selection ground” for possible composition of the national pool, and from which the team for the future international competitions (e.g. SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympics, etc.)
Summer is almost over. If you missed that company or family outing, then here’s a beach volleyball tournament you may wanna check out. The office of Congressman Jesus “Boying” F. Celeste is holding the 1st Celeste Bayanihan Cup Beach Volleyball Tournament, a 5-day beach volleyball tournament happening this May 26-23, 20011 in Bolinao, Pangasinan.
With a Kampihan para sa Kalikasan theme, this beach volleyball tournament is intended to help sustain the reforestation efforts in the first district of Pangasinan.
This 5-day tournament will use a single round elimination format until the top four teams remain to battle it out for the 1st to 4th place finish. Each team will be limited to 2 players and 1 coach.
Registration is actually already over at this point (March 26 to May 12). I’ve been testing this BeachVolley Scoreboard app on my iPod 2nd Gen (latest iOS 4.0.2). This app is pretty basic and straight forward so it should be easy enough to use. I usually prefer writing down the stats of a volleyball match on paper. But perhaps making use of this app on my iPod could be easier. It’s meant for beach volleyball (up to 4 vs. 4 players) but I guess I can try using it on indoor volleyball games particularly during our PVC Men’s Volleyball matches.Read more
