Dominance and Destiny: A special summary

Before we start another page this coming summer of a number of volleyball tournaments, let me first summarize what has transpired the past school year in all volleyball leagues.

Be it UAAP, NCAA, WNCAA, V-League or whichever league there is, the champions this school year were nevertheless the teams who were expected and destined or one whom everyone was predicting to be champions. There were tests in the middle of the way but it’s what made them win and go the extra mile. It is what brought them also to the Promised Land.

Lyceum wins 9th straight WNCAA volleyball crown

MANILA, Philippines – Lyceum of the Philippines University claimed its ninth straight WNCAA volleyball title after completing a two-game sweep of St. Francis of Assisi College at the St. Scholastica’s College gym over the weekend.

The Lady Pirates took Game 2, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16, to extend their reign in the Senior A division of the WNCAA’s 39th season. They won Game 1 also in straight sets, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16.

Lyceum’s Bernadette Satsatin was chosen as the finals most valuable player while teammates Syvie Gay Artates, Mary Grace Babalo and Joanna Marie dela Peña joined St. Francis’ Sarah Gonzaga, Iceal Cuevas and Acelyn Dublao in the mythical six.

Meanwhile, host College of Saint Benidle Lady Blazers prevented the Lady Pirates’ sweep bid in the Senior A basketball finals and posted a 61-58 win to force a winner-take-all Game 3.

7th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball needs female liason officers

Shakey’s V-league (Season 5) 2nd Conference kicks off on October 19, 2008

UPDATED: This post has been updated. It’s confirmed! UST and De La Salle will be joining the second conference of Shakey’s V-League Season 5.

Shakey’s V-league (Season 5) 2nd Conference will start this coming October 19, 2008 (Sunday) at The Arena in San Juan City.

Eight teams will participate in this second conference namely:

  • 1. Adamson (defending champion)
  • 2. Ateneo De Manila University (1st runner-up)
  • 3. College of Saint Benilde
  • 4. De La Salle University
  • 5. Far Eastern University
  • 6. Lyceum of the Philippines

PVF needs 6M to host Asian Girl’s Volleyball Meet

The Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) needs around 6 million pesos to host the 7th Asian Girl’s Volleyball on October 11-18, 2008 at the Philsports Arena.

PVF is grateful certain groups and individuals are pouring in their resources to make it possible, even the amount needed is yet to come.

PVF secretary-general Otie Camangian is optimistic the amount needed will be raised just in time the tournament starts, since this is the second time in three years our country will be hosting it.

Asian Youth Girls Volleyball to be held at the Philsports Arena (Ultra) in Pasig City

The 7th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship, an Asian Volleyball Confederation sanctioned tournament will be hosted by the Philippines with the Philippine Volleyball Federation as organizer. Twelve (12) teams will be participating in this tournament: Australia (AUS), China (CHN), India (IND), Indonesia (INA), Iran (IRI), Japan (JPN), Kazakhstan (KAZ), Korea (KOR), Sri Lanka (SRI), Chinese Taipei (TPE), Thailand (Tha), and Philippines (PHI).

7th Asian Girls Volleyball kicks off on October 11-18, 2008

The Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) is now busy preparing for the 7th Asian Girls (18 and below) Volleyball tournament on October 11-18, 2008 at the Philsports Arena.

According to the secretary-general Otie Camangian, the selection of players went through the process imposed by the coaching commitee headed by coach Casael (Shaq) Delos Santos for 2 weeks in Rizal Technological University (RTU) gymnasium in Mandaluyong City.

“We are very pleased to announce the final line up of our national women’s team that will represent the country in future events,” Camangian said.

Petron Treats Boy’s Volleyball League Season 2

When you hear ‘beach volleyball’, the first thing that pops into your mind is Nestea Beach Volleyball (right?). What’s the second? It’s Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball which is becoming more and more popular in the local beach volleyball arena. Volleyball tournaments like these are bound to get bigger and better every year. Thanks to big companies like Petron (Nestea and Shakey’s too) for supporting grass-roots volleyball events like these in the country.

UAAP 71 Beach Volleyball kicks off on September 6, 2008

3rd Miranda Cup Invitational Volleyball tournament

Never heard of this tournament before. This Miranda Cup Invitational tournament (Men’s Volleyball) is being participated by a total of 10 teams for the Men’s Division and 4 for the Women’s Division. At this point, Ateneo de Manila and St. Jude College are leading with undefeated records 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Miranda Cup is being held every weekends at the Metro Manila College (MMC) in Novaliches, Quezon City. Game this coming Sunday, August 31 will be as follows:
