UAAP Season 72

The Green Corner #11: Green or Yellow?

Posted in Reflections, UAAP Season 72, UAAP Volleyball

The Finals has been exciting in a way that we can see a lot of rallies. Especially in the Men’s. Those three sets were fun. I mean, if you would look at it, after the game, it’s as if you actually witnessed a five-setter game because of how both teams played. The women’s game kind of bored me. UST just really showed dominance over La Salle in Game 1 especially in the third set. Was hoping for a closer game, but then since I predicted a UST win last time in 3 to 4 sets, I should not have expected. Haha. Silly me.

I heard tomorrow will be a reunion of some sorts for the UST alumni/alumnae athletes not just in volleyball but also in basketball, swimming, etc. I guess the community in Espana is just so psyched up to win the games tomorrow. I just love how the supporters of UST come out to support their teams. It’s as if the school spirit in this schools is very much alive and that they really inspire and encourage their athletes to do their best.

I hope the La Salle crowd won’t be outnumbered much though tomorrow. After all, they are still the defending champions. I’m sure a lot of LaSallians out there will support the girls to force a decider on Wednesday. Gang Green will be supporting the team tomorrow so I’m expecting a non-stop cheering.

Prepare for some wild but fun action tomorrow. I’m sure the game tomorrow will be celebrity-studded or at least in sports. Have fun guys! 🙂

I’m sorry if I can’t make predictions today because of some problems. But I’ll make it up in our next article. Our next article will feature what we think of the awardees and if there will be a Game 3, we will be making predictions once more. If not, we will making our farewell to UST and DLSU. That’s all for now.

It was just three months ago when everyone actually was itching to be in the Final Four. Here we are again. In the Finals. Now everyone’s itching to go back to Day One to reminisce the great volleyball games that has happened this year. I, for one, can’t even move on and believe that it’s already in the Finals. I mean, come on, it’s really early. I still want more games! Haha.

For the first time in years, La Salle and UST will actually make it to the UAAP Finals. I can still remember 4 years back when La Salle and UST would face off in the V-League Finals perennially with Michelle Carolino playing for La Salle and Roxanne Pimentel for UST. Man, those games were ecstatic. It’s as if volleyball is in the same level already as basketball that time with the many fans watching the games. This year, I’m sure it will be as exciting as the basketball games. If you remember months back, in basketball, La Salle and UST had very exciting games against each other. You’d be surprised that Araneta had so many spectators that time despite UST being 4th and La Salle being only 6th. I am expecting more LaSallians and Thomasians to watch the game later. I hope students from both schools can egg on their teams to win the championship. Of course, nothing beats school pride. It’s what makes college wars really exciting I guess.

The Games this coming Wednesday for the UAAP 72 Women’s Volleyball 2nd Round are as follows:

Sunday, February 24, 2010
venue: San Juan Arena

2 PM: UST vs FEU (Men’s)
4 PM: DLSU vs UST (Women’s)

Here are our farewell messages to Adamson and Ateneo and our predictions for the coming Finals Game 1 games…

Expect more today when the additional fans of Ateneo and Adamson will come of course. We’re down to last four teams. Last four who rose to the occasion. It’s going to be the last weekend in the elimination and last games also for certain players. As the season comes to an end, it’s time to evaluate performances of different teams. The games of the past are usually games which might just define a team’s season. But the last game of a team is usually the game that will describe what might be, what could have been and what might have been. Improvements and other misfortunes have been in this season. Despite that, excitement still rose to the occasion and here we are. Only weeks away in determining which team will be hailed as champions. To the Final Four team, La Salle, Ateneo, UST and Adamson, congratulations. To those who failed to make it, I’m sure we will watch out for you next season.

We decided to make our Elimination Ender with a blast. And thus, we will post our game predictions and our farewells to non-Final Four teams. Watch out for the upcoming articles as we will be doing also the Men’s.

The Green Corner #7: Urgency

It’s time to press the panic button, at least for some teams. Among all teams, UE, UP and NU are teams who are looking ahead of things, at least for recruitment and development for next season. They are there to spoil things around. Needless to say, they will try to challenge and win over teams who are aspiring to be on top or to achieve something. Oh believe me, UAAP’s crazy. Anything in the UAAP is crazy. Anything can happen. They may be in the cellar, but they can pull teams down, and pull teams up.

The remaining games are very exciting. Even the main game tomorrow is as exciting since we all know Adamson has a hard time against blocking teams. UP is one of the best blocking teams and thus, making the game tomorrow crucial but exciting. On Sunday of course, it will be the volleyball rivalry featuring UST and FEU. Who will prevail? Let’s see.

The Games this coming weekend for the UAAP 72 Women’s Volleyball 2nd Round are as follows:

Saturday, February 6, 2010

After a very colorful and what seemed like an exhausting week, we finally have games which will be not that easy but far off from the lever. At least, we’ll get some kind of rest from the more exhausting but exciting watch kind of games. Especially this coming Saturday, it is somewhat a preview already of the Final Four as UST-Adamson and Ateneo-La Salle kick it off at The Arena, in one day, at the same venue. I can’t imagine how The Arena will be packed come Saturday knowing that the top four teams will face off against each other.

The Games this coming Wednesday for the UAAP 72 Women’s Volleyball 2nd Round are as follows:

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

This coming Saturday is probably the best day in UAAP Sesaon 72. It will most likely showcase the four teams that will meet in the Final Four. So for those four timers, you guys are lucky if ever you’ll watch it live or on tv, because you are bound to have one crazy day of volleyball. For sure the coming weekend will not only feature great match-ups but the duration of the games might just be very long that Batman Series and Oprah Winfrey might not be able to catch up anymore with their program in Studio 23. Hehe. Kidding aside, the upcoming weekend is spectacular. I just don’t get why they have to put the more exciting games on a Saturday. For sure the games tomorrow will be very exciting.

The Games this coming weekend for the UAAP 72 Women’s Volleyball 2nd Round are as follows:

UAAP Midterm Grades: A Food For Thought

Truly this season is packed with suprises that we volleyball fans are very pleased to know things like DLSU (along with their rookies) showing dominance in this season; how Tabaquero and their rookies has affected the quality of play they are showing. A much improved UP and NU teams, a Daquis-less and Morada-less season for FEU (add to Shai’s injury which caused her to stop playing until now) which is solely being caried by Cherry Vivas and how the Lady Eagles and Lady Falcons have stepped up their games and played with more maturity and finally, how a very disappointing Lady Warriors may have found theirselves on probably the worst scoring volleyball game in recent UAAP history.

So to give our dear readers on my insights on how the teams have perfomed read on… (This is in no particular order)
