We all miss these two teams: the UST and FEU Women’s Volleyball. The last time the Lady Tigers reigned supreme was when they won back to back championship crowns during the Shakey’s V-League Season 4 Second Conference and UAAP Volleyball Season 69. They were unstoppable during those days. As for the Lady Tamaraws, UAAP Season 70 was their time to shine as they defeated Adamson to win during the finals.

Additional incentive for a UAAP sweep

UAAP Season 71 has officially started yesterday July 5, 2008. Now that’s for basketball at least. (By the way, it’s Ateneo vs. La Salle today, July 6 Sunday, at the Araneta Coliseum 4pm). As for the UAAP volleyball tournament, it usually starts during the second semester to give way for the Shakey’s V-League. Expect UAAP Volleyball Season 71 to happen sometime this December probably.

Does this new UAAP-sweep rule apply to all sports including volleyball? Now a sweep is indeed a very ‘rare’ occasion in UAAP basketball at least. But what about in UAAP volleyball? What do you think?

In the aftermath of the most successful volleyball season in UAAP history, school are now scrambling to get the best talent available.. players AND coaches.

San Sebastian mentor Roger Gorayeb is set to lead the Ateneo squad for their next UAAP campaign. He will serve as a mentor / consultant for the upcoming v-league as assistant coach Mic Mic Labrote has been promoted to head coach.

Moving across Katipunan will be now former Ateneo coach Ron Dulay, who moves to UP to lead their up-and-coming roster.
