It has been two years since Ateneo Lady Eagles and La Salle Lady Archers faced each other in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament. The last time they faced each other saw the then-3-peat champions La Salle winning over Ateneo, 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9. There has been 5 off-season games that these two teams had with each other. Last 2006, La Salle won over Ateneo, 25-13, 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 15-12, last summer, Ateneo won over La Salle, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15 and La Salle won in the eliminations, 25-21, 25-19, 25-15. In the recently concluded season, La Salle won the eliminations, 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 but Ateneo won the semi-finals, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15.

UAAP Women’s Volleyball:UST posts a win against fellow contender Ateneo

Posted in UAAP Volleyball

Games today were kind of lopsided (except for the 1st one) but nevertheless thrilling. La Salle won in a not-so convincing fashion as they dished out a 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19 over an inexperienced UE team. FEU also took advantage of a poor floor defense out of UP, 25-21, 25-17, 25-15. Adamson won over a surging NU team, 25-16, 25-7, 25-19. UST obviously prepared for this game as they posted mastery over Ateneo, 26-24, 25-12, 25-21, 25-13. Ateneo, most of the time relied on ace player Charo Soriano and left the other players in the background. UST, having been scolded for a terrible game against Adamson last Monday, exposed experience and determination as veteranship prevailed over the Lady Eagles.

UAAP Women’s Volleyball opens with a bang!

Posted in UAAP Volleyball

Alas, the long wait is over. The UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament is complete again. La Salle is back from a year-long suspension. A lot of teams are predicted to be stronger this season. UST, of course, is composed of RP Team players and is still the top contender because they are the defending champions. Ateneo is predicted to make waves because though they lost Kesinee, a Thai player who played for Ateneo in the V-League, they will be supported by a blonde American in Crystal Ballentyne plus of course, their Thailand Training last Semestral Break. Adamson, is likewise, predicted to give a bang after a much improvement in the V-League even though they lost a couple of key players. FEU can still be considered a contender having lost only Manalo and Astorga. Though they lost these two, these were well-replaced in the form of Gonzalez and Jose. La Salle, is taking up the challenge to prove that UST is an asterisk champion, as they want to prove that UST’s championship is nothing but a fluke because they were suspended and that they could’ve been 4-peat champions, a thing last done by Ateneo and UP in the 80s. UP, young as they are, proved to us last year that they can keep pace with the heavyweights by having close games with Adamson, UE, Ateneo, etc. NU, poses a great threat too as they are rookie-laden, the coach brags his girls’ floor defense and specialty in serving. UE, wants to prove that even without star player Roces, can still make it in the Final Four because they still have a solid core in Soriano, Rivera, Alanguilan, Guevarra, and the others.
