Darn it, we’re still working on the new and improved Spikeithard website design. It’s going to be a full website revamp so watch out for it soon. I’ve been kinda busy lately but was able to find time to watch the April 8 (Tuesday) games live at The Arena.
Though not of an extreme importance, I’d just like to tally the player of the game winners, just for fun and some interesting discussion. Is this list a legitimate MVP ranking?

It is offical. De La Salle University – Manila and University of Santo Tomas will no longer play this coming conference after losing key players to graduation, the injuries being experienced by their players and for the reason that they will focus more in training for the next UAAP tournament, hosted by University of the Philippines.
Adamson University, after dropping the idea of getting Suzanne Roces, has acquired Nerissa Bautista again of University of San Agusting. Nerissa Bautista played with Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas. She stands at around 6’0″ ft and is definitely considered as one of the versatile players around after playing both outside hitter and middle blocker both in the RP Team and Adamson Lady Falcons. She will definitely be a big boost since the Adamson Lady Falcons need height and offense after having failed to win their first-ever UAAP championship. They are also a team who has an advantage since they already had Nerissa Bautista as their guest player before, so jelling will not be a problem.
Far Eastern University, who also lost the opportunity to get a Thai player because of a commitment, will be parading RP Women’s Beach Volleyball Player Michelle Carolino. Michelle Carolino is probably one of the players who has a great following, this is so because of her power spikes when she played for De La Salle University – Manila before. She was also hailed as the Most Valuable Player and Best Attacker in the 2004 Season of the V-League. She stands at 5’9″ but she is definitely one of the players who can leap high and give some 6-feet-under spikes. It is interesting to note how Far Eastern University got her as guest player. Coach Nestor Pamiliar, the current coach of the Lady Tamaraws, was the coach of Colegio de San Juan de Letran for so many years, and Michelle Carolino was one of her players. So it is quite understandable that they will have Michelle Carolino as guest player this season.
San Sebastian College – Recoletos, after losing Jaroensri Bualee due to a previous commitment in Vietnam, has been allegedly training with former UE Red Skirt and National Team Player Suzanne Roces. Suzanne Roces stands at 5’10″ and is considered as one of the best middle blockers in the country. Last conference, in the Semi-Finals and Finals combined, she averaged 21 points per game, which gave University of Santo Tomas a lot of help in a winning back-to-back championship. It is but notable that she will now play for the a team she and the Tigresses defeated last conference in the Finals.
MANILA, Philippines – Bad news to volleyball fans out there.
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigress Spikers, champions in the last two conferences of the Shakey’s V-League collegiate volleyball competitions, will no longer participate in this year’s 5th season of the tournament.
Acting head coach Cesael de los Santos, in lieu of the absence of long-time coach August Sta. Maria who suffered a stroke last Sunday night, said the team will no longer join the league that is set kick off hostilities this coming March 30 in order for the players to concentrate more on their studies…
After talking with some of the players of the top three teams last V-League. A lot of them are not keen on joining the tournament because of the 1 guest player policy. I don’t know the reason why but I have an interpretation that it would be less exciting for them if ever teams would only have just 1 guest player.
Three La Salle teams namely De La Salle University, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod will be parading in the 10-team league. De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde was included because of being in the Championship with San Sebastian in the NCAA Season 83. University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod meanwhile will be included due to its excellent volleyball program and its relentless performance in the University Games. It is quite understandable why De La Salle University will be included since they’ve already been 3-peat champions in the league.
The upcoming Shakey’s V-League is probably the most talked-about conference in the entirety of the league. V-League Season 5 is said to open on March 30, 2008. Venue will be at The Arena, San Juan. Opening games will be between the defending champs University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University. These two teams seem to have the most number of fans and followers.
