10 September 2008 UE Red Shirts seeks to sweep UAAP 71 Juniors Volleyball this Saturday

This will be the final game in the Double-Round Eliminations for UAAP 71 Juniors Volleyball. If University of the East wins over Ateneo de Manila, then they will sweep the eliminations and become the champions. If the Blue Spikers manage to snatch and win this game, then there will be a best of three battle for the championship.

First of all, Happy Birthday to Mary Jane Pepito!!!

We all know that MJ Pepito is one of the best defenders in the women’s volleyball scene. She plays for her school San Sebastian College - Recoletos as the team libero. If you have seen her play before, then you should very well know that she’s a leader inside the court as well.

MJ is also one of the cuties! In fact, Joey Villaluz (better known as Gearhead), describes her as “a cross between Heart Evangelista and Mariel Rodriguez, with some Maui Taylor thrown in for good measure”. So if you’re a volleyball fan who thinks Mary Jane Pepito should win the “Search for the next Auction.ph model” contest, then vote for her. Here’s how:

1 September 2008 UAAP 71 Beach Volleyball kicks off on September 6, 2008

This coming September 6, 2008 (Saturday) will be the opening for the UAAP Season 71 Beach Volleyball tournament. Venue will be at the University of the East (UE) - Caloocan, 8:00AM. Eight teams will be participating in this tournament namely:

What the hell was I thinking when I decided to join The Human Race 10K event by Nike!!? I used to join fun run events back in high school but that was for 2.5 and occasional 5-kilometer fun run events only. Never did I expect to last a 10-kilometer race.

27 August 2008 3rd Miranda Cup Invitational Volleyball tournament

Never heard of this tournament before. This Miranda Cup Invitational tournament (Men’s Volleyball) is being participated by a total of 10 teams for the Men’s Division and 4 for the Women’s Division. At this point, Ateneo de Manila and St. Jude College are leading with undefeated records 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Miranda Cup is being held every weekends at the Metro Manila College (MMC) in Novaliches, Quezon City. Game this coming Sunday, August 31 will be as follows:

27 August 2008 2008 Beijing Olympics: biggest flop in Philippine Sports

The 2008 Beijing Olympics ended with a very flamboyant and elaborate ceremony in the China’s new landmark, the Bird’s Nest. The recently concluded Olympics is said to be the most successful edition in terms of organization, sportsmanship. The opening and closing ceremonies were just spectacular. For the first time, an Asian country topped the gold medal count. And that was China as many expected. Being the host country, they had delegates in all the sports and disciplines. Having more than 600 Chinese Olympians, the favor was really theirs.

For the third time since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, we came home empty-handed. But at least we got a Gold Medal consolation from Willy Wang for the Wushu event. Although this was just a demo event and is not part of the main Olympic sports. Nonetheless, it was wonderful to see fellow Pinoy Willy as he was raising the Philippine flag. Even though he looks more like a Chinese than a Filipino and has a Chinese twang, at least he can sing the Philippine national anthem.
