Aside from all sorts of stuff being emailed to me, I also probe the internet from time to time for useful volleyball stuff I can blog about or share over here at Spikeithard.com. If you do a Google search on the term volleyball (with "pages from the Philippines" selected), you'd see that there are only a handful of websites out there dedicated to volleyball that are found locally. This was actually the very reason why I started Spikeithard.com blog a few years back.

From forum sites like the vleague.tk and rpspikers.net (formerly rpspikers.tk), to the official sites like v-league.ph, ncaa.org.ph, the new uaapsports.com, and greenarchers.ph. You can always check out these sites to get the latest news on volleyball in the local scene.

Philspike.com – Home of Philippine Volleyball

Other than the volleyball sites above, there’s another website that I check regularly and has been one of my trusted resources since the day I discovered it a few months ago. Dubbed as the Home of Philippine Volleyball, www.PhilSpike.com has proven itself to be one of the most comprehensive sites that covers volleyball tournaments in the country. It has been around since 2008 I believe.

What I like about PhilSpike.com…

The site has this ‘Game Schedules’ section that is very useful.

They do have a dedicated team of writers and photographers who cover the games. So the site should be always up-to-date I suppose.

The site is based on the WordPress platform that allows you to register for an account. I noticed you automatically get a contributor role when you sign up.

And they have the usual features like a Gallery, Shoutbox, and commenting function.

The man behind PhilSpike.com is Edison Go Tan who seems to be a nice fellow. The last time I got to chat Edison, he mentioned something about publishing the first ever magazine dedicated to volleyball.

More power to PhilSpike.com and the other sites out there that promote Philippine volleyball.

I was updating my Facebook account when I stumbled upon this Facebook fan page entitled "SmartBRO UAAP". Apparently, SmarBRO will power the brightest stars in this season's UAAP games. The account shows some behind-the-scenes shots from the photoshoot featuring a variety of UAAP athletes. Don't be surprised to see billboards or posters or even TV commercials (I hope) featuring your favorite UAAP superstars in the near future being promoted by SmartBRO.

Of course, what caught my attention while I was browsing through the pages of this SmartBRO Facebook account were the UAAP Volleyball athlete endorsers!! Here's a list of all the UAAP athletes who are part of this campaign. Take note of those volleyball athletes in the list:

It has been two months since I arrived here in Singapore. And I flew here not to work but to try-out for International Kakis Volleyball Team-Singapore. Getting in the team means having the privilege to play in international volleyball tournaments. Mr. Samuel Wong heads and coaches the team.

International Kakis Volleyball Team (Singapore)

You can learn more about Team Kakis from there http://www.internationalkakis.com/ website. To give you an idea, here’s what they do (taken from their website):

Mission:
1. Mass participation
2. Raise the level of play
3. Promote the game volleyball within the region.

International Kakis Volleyball Sport Club is a non profit making volleyball sport club located in Singapore and registered with the Volleyball Association of Singapore. The objectives of having this club is to provide a place for the foreign and local volleyball players to train and play and this will eventually benefit and improve the skill level of the local players. This will also allow the foreign volleyball players to continue playing volleyball while they are staying, working or studying in Singapore.

Showing that they are more than just a DOT!, the folks over at rpspikers.tk does it again by coming up with another one-of-a-kind gimmick for the benefit of all volleyball fans out there. They have this Volleyball Performance Awards 2008 thingie which will be done in tandem with rpspikers.tk’s relaunching of their website. So you see, they will definitely be more than just a DOTtk in the near future. They will soon be either a .COM or .PH assuming they will get their own domain for the new site. What will they be called? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Volleyball Perfs Awards 2008

I visited rpspikers.tk just recently to learn more about the Perf Awards. It’s an online voting contest where participants-slash-volleyball fans will get to vote for their favorite volleyball players. I would vote my idol Micmic Laborte for the “Best Performance by a Blocker Award” for instance. Here’s a cool video primer they made:

<p style="text-align:center";>

I just thought of buying jerseys to raffle it off over here at Spikeithard just in time for the Finals. So back then I was hoping for an Ateneo-FEU finals. I guess we'll have to hold onto the Daquis jerseys for now.

Will think of a raffle-gimmick first then blog about it maybe by tonight. So check back again here at Spikeithard.com blog soon. Will really, really also try my best to have the jerseys autographed by Ms. Charo Soriano herself first before we raffle it off. So who wants a Charo Soriano authentic Shakey's V-League jersey courtesy of Spikeithard.com blog?

As most of you guys know, Jersey Haven is where you can get authentic Accel jerseys. They've got all the sports covered from PBA, UAAP basketball and volleyball, Shakey's V-League, RP Team, and practically all other local tournament where Accel is the official outfitter. They have this "All-Star" Hoopla event for basketball aficionados. Check it out:

Wanna play volleyball with Rachel Anne Daquis for free?

Wanna play volleyball with Rachel Anne Daquis for free?

Then join the Nike Love Bug campaign. The concept is simple. You’ll get to choose a sport that you love playing and then sign up for free sessions. You’ll get to play with other love bugs who signed up for the same sport. Umm, but you won’t get to play volleyball with Rachel Anne Daquis. Sorry. She was just the Nike model for this Love Bug promo. But hey, who knows, maybe after the UAAP Finals she can be invited to join the volleyball sessions.

More About the Nike Love Bug

I think this promo started last February 3, 2008 and will last until April 30, 2008. Nike will sponsor your “first date” with a sport of your choice by arranging a sport trial session for you. There’s a total of 8 sports to choose from:

ULTIMATE FRISBEE – “I’ll catch you everytime.”

BELLY DANCING – “Let’s shake things up.”

VOLLEYBALL – “Allow me to court you.”

ROCK CLIMBING – “We’ll scale great heights together.”

FOOTBALL – “You’ll get a kick out of me.”

WAKEBOARDING – “I’ll draw you in.”

YOGA – “I’ll go to great lengths for you.”

SURFING – “My love is an ocean.”

The site requires you to download and install the Nike Love Bug widget which also means that you need to install Yahoo! Widgets to make the application work. This Love Bug thing will allow you to get news and updates from Nike as well as interact with fellow Love Bugs which includes Rachel Anne Daquis supposedly (rachel@nikewomen.com.ph). You’ll need to sign-up for your free sports trial sessions via the Love Bug. Your desktop will look something like this:

As the local volleyball scene is getting more exposure on TV, the same is true online. There's a lot of Friendster blogs out there covering the UAAP Volleyball for instance. Multiply and Flickr accounts are piling up with volleyball action photos. Local papers are also covering volleyball tournaments regularly now. Hopefully, more sites will emerge to promote Volleyball in the Philippines.

As the local volleyball scene is getting more exposure on TV, the same is true online. There’s a lot of Friendster blogs out there covering the UAAP Volleyball for instance. Multiply and Flickr accounts are piling up with volleyball action photos. Local papers are also covering volleyball tournaments regularly now. Hopefully, more sites will emerge to promote Volleyball in the Philippines.

There’ a new volleyball site called rpspikers.tk forum. Here’s an article made by one of its moderators:

Exuberance for RP Volleyball

A new forum website ought to do big for RP Sports – that’s how the web owner opt it to be at the start. As he started a modest and humble dream of helping RP Volleyball reach the consciousness of volleyball players and fans. Saddled by the advent of Volleyball games getting a lot of attention in Philippine Sports and his dire intentions of promulgating the sport to the
millions of Filipinos, he named his creation as RPSPIKERS.TK – all to celebrate the renaissance of RP Volleyball.

I was lucky enough to be visiting the site last January 31 as the forum was just 2 days old that time, everything was all but new, handful of threads just started, little replies from the members yet. As I was scrolling down the forum, a personal message appeared at my profile. “Oh, it’s the owner welcoming me.” I whispered. I was in real excitement as I usually don’t find enough time meddling myself to forums. It grew out of curiosity that I returned a message boosting him for a job well done. “This will soon be a fad for sports lovers.” I replied. I was in great awe as I read his reply to me, “all for RP Volleyball.” It paved the way for me to be revisiting the website almost every night (as I have work in the morning) exchanging opinions of forumers from every corner of the country. It was indeed fun as I was laughing to some boisterous posts, getting carried away by a poster who’s a die-hard fan of a particular player and getting cognizant to rival teams. It was nothing but a fun and a learning lesson for me.

The website was a simple collage of great ideas contributed by the owner, moderators and the members itself. Aside from the feeling of having a volleyball community online, it seeks to provide information and be a medium where fans can exchange opinions about the game, the players and some other selected topics. As soon as you become a member, you will be welcomed by the moderators, a good start isn’t it huh? You won’t get an eye strain as you’ll face a cool color of the website. It will draw you more to be visiting the site more and more.

<p style="text-align:center";>

A forum is a community-based website geared towards creating more interaction among its members. All you need to do is create and account and start posting. So if you like interacting with fellow volleyball fans, then check out rpspikers.tk forum.

What I like about rpspikers are the many gimmicks and features they have in the forum. For instance, the more you post comments the more you earn “forum money” which members can use to buy stuff online. They also have a special section called “The Basher Room” which speaks for itself.

So what do you think about rpspikers.tk?

Bleacher's Brew is a blog created and maintained by Mr. Rick Olivares. If you love Charo Soriano and wanna see how well she speaks English (and Thai), you should visit his page to see his interviews. Here are some of them...

<p style="text-align:center";><img src='http://spikeithard.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/links-bleachers-brew.jpg' alt='Blearcher's Brew blog' />

Bleacher’s Brew is a blog created and maintained by Mr. Rick Olivares. He writes for Business Mirror and I think his Bleacher’s Brew blogspot is actually an extension of his column. So his blog seems to be a compilation or collection of all the articles he has written for the business paper he works for. And a lot more!!! Bleacher’ Brew covers all sports from the NBA, football, baseball, swimming, and of course volleyball. The blog covers both the local and international sports scene. If you wanna know more about the many sports-related things Rick Olivares cover, then check out his personal blog at the Bleacher’s Brew. (Take note that it’s a “personal” blog).

When you visit Bleacher’s Brew, I’m sure it will become apparent that Mr. Rick Olivares is a proud Ateneo supporter (probably because blue and white is his alma mater, duhh!!). It is also obvious that he is a professional sports writer. What I like most about Bleacher’s Brew are the intimate and personal interviews Rick always do when doing a story.

I love music and sports. I write professionally and hope to seriously get into film one day soon.

Hmm, so that’s why I see him with his videocam more often than with his digital SLR. Just go to YouTube and do a search for bleachersking where you can find a compilation of all the video interviews he did. Remember I said Rick is an Ateneo supporter? So if you love Charo Soriano and wanna see how well she speaks English (and Thai), you should visit his page to see his interviews. Here are some of them:

<p style="text-align:center";>

Here are more interviews by Rick Olivares. With Rachel Anne Daquis, Angeli Tabaquero, and Denise Tan this time. Next page please….
