I was reading about how a heavy downpour of rain greeted the Olympic-themed opening of UAAP Season 74 last Saturday at the Marikina Sports Park, when I somehow managed to reach Volleywood.net and read about the Olympic Stadium that is currently being built for the 2012 London Games. Here’s a first look at the Olympic Stadium

Philippines to host FIVB World Grand Prix again?

Posted in International Volleyball, Volleyball News

Rumors of the Philippines hosting the Grand Prix in Cebu in the near future spurted out from Volleywood.net and now, I see the article being spread all over Facebook accounts – thanks to the like and recommend buttons. Mr. Ace Asas, the man behind the international volleyball site, confirms this to be very likely to happen and in fact his “source” (who is very reliable and apparently very secret as well) says that the deal between the FIVB and Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) is currently being negotiated. Let’s hope the Philippines gets this opportunity once chance.

The FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix is the premier annual women’s global volleyball tournament that features 16 teams. This 2011, Macau is hosting the Grand Prix finals happening this August. About ten years ago, a leg as well as the finals match of the Grand Prix were staged at the Philsports Arena and Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines. Leila Barros was adored by the Filipino fans back then.

Posted in International Volleyball, Other Volleyball Sites, Reflections

This blog has been a very popular source of volleyball information, updates, news, and anything that is practically about the game we all love. I was even shocked when I learned that some of my friends from Singapore and Malaysia visit Spikeithard.com to learn what’s going on in the volleyball world. I did not expect that this blog was already that famous.

It has been two months since I arrived here in Singapore. And I flew here not to work but to try-out for International Kakis Volleyball Team-Singapore. Getting in the team means having the privilege to play in international volleyball tournaments. Are you a Filipino currently living in Singapore and thinks that you have what it takes to be part of International Kakis Volleyball Team? (Read along…)

Last night, as I watched the game of China and Netherlands in the annual Montreux Volley Masters, I can’t help but to be impressed at how China can even keep their volleyball level up even with the loss of some key players.

Philippines to host the 2008 Asian Youth Girls’ Volleyball Championship in October

Posted in International Volleyball, Volleyball News

The Asian Youth Girl’s Volleyball Championships that is said to be held in Manila this October will have 13 participating teams that includes Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Maldives,Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Taipei.

Sadly, the Philippines is only participating on the Asian Youth Girls’ Volleyball Championships. We have no representatives to other events, well, as of now. How can we improve the level of plays of our teams if we are not participating in the international stage?

Here are the upcoming volleyball events in Asia. Taken from the official Asian Volleyball Confederation (http://www.asianvolleyball.org/) website:

Volleyball world rankings and the Philippines

Posted in International Volleyball

It’s Maundy Thursday and it is high time to reflect our Christian faith! Well, working on a BPO company requires me to do my reflections and doing my work all at the same time here at the heart of Makati City. Along with my spiritual assessment, I tried to also reflect on the current position of our country, the Philippines, on the World Rankings.

I compiled these data from the FIVB website. Let’s take a look on our standing and also of our neighboring countries here in South East Asia, the rest of the continent, and the rest of the world.

Guys, I need your thoughts and opinions on who will be the final 4. Posted are my predictions and the country’s current FIVB world ranking as of January 2008.

WOMEN’S DIVISION
My Bets:

Brazil (1) vs Russia (5) (Gold Medal Match)

China (6) vs Italy (2) (Bronze Medal Match)

Of course I’m considering Team Cuba (3) and USA (4) as darkhorses for the womens division.
