Adamson University moves onto the Finals as they defeated University of St. La Salle-Bacolod
yesterday. The Lady Falcons beat their opponents in 4 sets: 26-24, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17. The tandem of Angela Benting and Nerissa Bautista headed the Falcons’ offensive onslaught with 19 and 21 won points respectively.
As for the Lady Eagles, they defeated their semi-finals opponents, National University, in 3 sets however, this win has been forfeited because of a violation committed (an unfortunate error committed by first time head coach Charo Soriano). Bea Tan of Ateneo was entered into the team’s lineup originally as the team libero. But Bea played as a regular player during the NU match. Under the FIVB rules, a libero cannot revert back to playing as a regular player.
Ateneo will face off National University once again for a sudden death game tomorrow, May 12, 4pm at San Juan Arena gym. It’s going to be a heart beaker should Ateneo lose this one.

I stumbled upon this video on one of the volleyball-related Facebook groups. For those who might not know this, kicking the ball in volleyball is actually not a violation (unlike in basketball). So you can actually serve by kicking the ball, no kidding! Watch this video…

One-day volleyball leagues / tournaments are becoming even more popular nowadays. This one is perhaps one of the biggest in terms of the number of participants and it’s called the All Stars One-Day League. This tournament will be held on May 8 (Sunday) from 8am – 9pm. Venue is at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Gym in Diliman, Quezon City. It’s along the elliptical road.
UPDATE: There are a total of 4 brackets with 6 teams of 7 players each. Participating players come from the UAAP, NCAA, AFP, and national teams so this will be an all-out slug fest of the country’s hard-hitting volleyball players.

I’m taking the time off from volleyball for now after I injured my back last week with the Thursday Volleyball Madness group. It was so painful I couldn’t bend over to tie my shoe laces nor sit upright without grinning in pain. This scared me so I decided to go to the doctor at the Marikina Orthopedic Clinic. Fortunately, no fracture or anything severe. It was just a case of pulled back muscle or something. I just needed Cataflam and this other medicine that knocks me off in seconds, and a few weeks of rest = no volleyball.
