What is U-Volley: volleyball for shorter players

Posted in Volleyball Facts

To understand what U-Volley is, consider this fact that…

approximately 75 percent of the world’s population is less than 185 centimeters (or 6 feet 2 inches) tall

In volleyball, we all know that height does matter. Volleyball nowadays have shifted towards being more offense-driven (this is why the Libero was introduced in 1998). You see shorter rallies, more complex back-row attack plays, etc. And this trend of being an attack-based sport will only continue to develop as volleyball players will keep on spiking it harder! Because of this, volleyball seems to have become a sport ideal for those who are taller and can jump higher. So what about the shorter people?

Did you miss watching the UST vs. UP match?

Posted in Others, Photos and Videos, UAAP Season 73, UAAP Volleyball

Did you miss watching the greatest upset (so far) in UAAP 73 Women’s Volleyball? I knew it wouldn’t take long for someone to take the time and effort to watch the replay, record it, and upload the entire match on YouTube.

We’re talking about the game between UST and UP where the UP Lady Maroons stepped up big time and beat defending champs UST. It was an awesome match! After losing set 1, the Tigresses were so shocked I never saw Aiza Maizo smile (no even a smirk!) all throughout the game. UP on the other hand played with all heart (and fired up emotions!) and was able to sustain it ’til the end to eventually snatch the match. Open spikers Carmela Lopez and Angeli Araneta did the most damage with 16 and 14 points respectively.

Lady Archers in the brink of another game forfeiture controversy

Posted in UAAP Season 73, UAAP Volleyball, Viking Cup, Volleyball News

I had no plans of writing about this issue anytime soon at first but since Mr. Theo Jurado of Journal Online (who’s always first when it comes to volleyball news like this) has already published an article, and because the looming controversy has actually already spread like wildfire online, let me just share again what this fuss is all about.

Apparently, the unbeaten De La Salle Lady Archers in the ongoing UAAP 73 Women’s Volleyball is in the brink of forfeiting either some of their games or perhaps all of them due to a violation of a UAAP rule wherein current UAAP players are not allowed to play in any other league or tournament for the duration of the tournament. To sum up everything, here’s sir Theo’s article taken from website:
