To fit the P30M budget for the upcoming SEA Games 2011 in Indonesia this November 11-25, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) had to trim down the delegation for Team Philippines. SEA Games co-deputy Julian Camacho confirmed major cuts have been made in team sports like volleyball, baseball, and futsal.
Due to the win-less performance of our Philippine Women’s Volleyball Team in the recently concluded 12th Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship where they placed last at 8th overall, the POC had to cut off the team from participating in the SEA Games 2011.Read more

Other than the basketball, football, and frisbee events, there’s going to be a volleyball event as well in the first Ateneo Open Tournament 2011 happening this October 15 and 16 (Sat/Sun) at Ateneo de Manila College Covered courts.
Entry fee per team for the volleyball event is P3,000. Reserve a slot now by visiting this page.
This 2-day league is being organized by the Ateneo Volleyball Club (AVC) and Women’s Basketball Club of Ateneo which seek to raise funds for the Ateneo Alumni Scholars Association. This will benefit the future scholars of the school.
This kind of weekend volleyball tournaments are ideal for those recreational volleyball groups out there who wants to get a chance to compete and meet with other fellow volleyball groups. And since there are cash prizes, this can be a means to generate funds as well. The only problem I see is the fact that it’s literally “open” to any teams and/or players regardless of level of play. So expect a few hard-core volleyball teams who play for money to join.

The 4th Viking Cup started back in May and now it is coming to a close as the Finals matches have already been set. Watch out for culmination of this tournament, organized by Coach Andy Fiel of World Citi Colleges (WCC), this July 31, 201 Sunday. Venue is at the WCC gym along Aurora Blvd. Cubao.

The Philippine Olympic Commission (POC) estimates that a budget of around Php100,000 per delegate is needed in order for the Philippines to participate in the upcoming 2011 Southeast Asian Game (SEAG) this November 11-22 in Palembang and Jakarta, Indonesia. Currently, Team Philippines has about 600 athletes for the SEAG. So this means, a total of P60M is needed.Read more
Former University of the Philippines women’s team volleyball player Jed Montero (Rebecca Gail Montero) graces the July 2011 issue of FHM – the one with the Eula Valdes cover. Before she jumped into the world of TV hosting and perhaps an acting career someday, she was once one of the sought after faces in UAAP Volleyball. Her UAAP volleyball days were cut short due to an ankle injury.
