It was back in 2005 during the 23rd Southeast Asia Games (SEAG) when the Philippines last participated in the indoor volleyball competition of SEAG. Back then, Philippine Volleyball was at its best in my opinion and at par with the rest of the top Asian countries. In fact, our women’s volleyball team placed third (bronze medal) during the 23rd SEAG. What happened since then?
Philippines hosted the 23rd Southeast Asian Games back in November 27 to December 5 of 2005. The games were participated by 11 nations of Southeast Asia. The 23rd SEAG was noted for having the most number of delegates in the history of the SEA Games. All participating countries received medals and Philippines received the most number of gold medals overall. Those were the glory days of Philippine Sports.
The 23rd SEAG indoor volleyball games were held at the West Negros University Gymnasium in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. Here are some volleyball action photos I found over at the Flickr site of pro photographer Mr. Kieron Tan of SKT Digital Photography:
I can recognize the following legendary volleyball players from these photos namely: Dante Alinsunurin, Jan Patrona, Herminio Gallo, Michelle Carolino, Mary Jean Balse, etc. Can you recognize the other players in these photos?
