Dubbed as the 2011 Battle of Champions, the third leg of the 9th Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Tournament kicks off on July 15 (Friday) at the volleyball sand courts of De La Salle University-Das Marinas (Health and Sciences campus) in Cavite. This third leg was supposed to take place in Pangasinan as originally planned, but the recent typhoons caused the organizers to move the venue to Cavite.
Veterans and rookies will be spiking their way in the sands this Friday as they compete in this tournament that will hold a total of 18 matches. Finals will take place on Saturday. All the finalists of all three legs of the Petron Ladies beach volley tournament will advance to the Battle of Champions in Puerto Princesa on October 11 and 12.
Here are some interesting stuff to consider, taken from www.mb.com.ph and www.philstar.com news sites:
- Vying in the third leg are two teams each from Dela Salle, University of the East, Perpetual Help and San Beda Alabang, and one each from Philippine Christian Umiversity and Centro Escolar Manila.
- Last year’s runner-up Jennifer Manzano and Satchel Senupe are coming back to seek the crown they lost to Far Eastern University’s Shaira Gonzales and Shedd de la Pena in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
- Also trying to stamp her class is DLSU-Dasmariñas Iari Yongco, who will be reunited with old teammate Giselle Bembo. Together, they will count on their home-court advantage.
- University of the East’s Jimberly Dizon and new teammate Jessica Paron will also be around, hoping to also reach the semis.
