The Green Corner #4: Rest

After a very colorful and what seemed like an exhausting week, we finally have games which will be not that easy but far off from the lever. At least, we’ll get some kind of rest from the more exhausting but exciting watch kind of games. Especially this coming Saturday, it is somewhat a preview already of the Final Four as UST-Adamson and Ateneo-La Salle kick it off at The Arena, in one day, at the same venue. I can’t imagine how The Arena will be packed come Saturday knowing that the top four teams will face off against each other.

AdU-UE

As the second round of games here in the UAAP season 72 women’s volleyball continues, we have the current third place, the Adamson Lady Falcons taking on the seventh place UE Lady Warriors. So what would be the synopsis of this game? Again, it would be the patented Adamson floor defense along with Angela Benting, Pau Soriano and Jill Gustilo against the UE Warriors’ Cristel Rosale and Leushet Dawis. The first time these two teams met before the Christmas break, Adamson swept them in a very conventional manner beating them out in straight sets which is due to the fact that their strenghts are present and the focus no matter who they face in a match.  On the other side of the net, as every game passes, the Lady Warriors seem to struggle in making their floor and net defense as well as their offense work. Well, if the Lady Warriors still cannot find their rhythm in the court and make their defense and offense work, the Lady Falcons will easily coast along, finishing this game in straight sets.

UP-UST

Two of the better blocking teams of the league will face-off bearing different situations. One who places second is almost efficient in other areas and one who was been pretty inconsistent and is somewhat undergoing a transition stage. So what works and what’s not? Well for the Lady Maroons…their somewhat okay floor defense and a couple of good attacks especially if good sets are given to toni tan, carmela lopez and angelli araneta. It is a different story for UST though. Jessica Curato is back which is sure to add another dimension to an already good blocking and attacking team. As for the outcome of the game, an upset might still happen just like last year may happen if only they would be able to find that confidence they had when they faced UST last year. Until then, I will place my money on UST finishing this game on a rather easy three set victory
