VGD group will resume volleyball games next year

I’ve attended a handful of Volleyball Game Date (VGD) events and it seems that the group is getting bigger and bigger. VGD is a group of volleyball lovers who play volleyball every Saturdays 7pm onwards. This is open to anyone for as long as you inform Abbie, our boss. You can learn more about the VGD group and join the mailing list by revisiting this previous blog post.

Last December 5 was the group’s last volleyball game date event for the year. Unexpectedly, a lot of people came. It was actually somewhat chaotic but we managed to form 5 teams and took turns playing against each other. Since the group is getting bigger, I would suggest a bigger venue with at least 2 courts para hindi bitin next time.

Once in while and for some reason, “celebrity volleyball players” would show up to play with the group. Last time, former Ateneo Lady Eagle Bianca Sison joined the group. She sure can still spike it hard!! San Beda middle blocker Rocky Honrade who was awarded best attacker/blocker during the recently concluded NCAA tourney, was there too. He seemed to have enjoyed playing with the group even though we looked like midgets in his presence. And for a player of his caliber, he really was a very down-to-earth fellow.

And oh, Daquis was there too! See her at the group photo above? Clue: she cut her hair short.

I am a massive volleyball fan. I’ve tried to make it to my high school and college teams, but it seems politics in player selection plays a big role. So i wasn’t able to showcase my burning passion in the court professionally. I remained just an enthusiast. I’m just there for the sport, that’s what i had in mind back then. but then, my yearning to play the sport together with other volleyball lovers would be a dream come true. looking and organizing a group is such a hard task once you’re out of school already, because volleyball is just another “p.e. sport” to the filipino consciousness. it’s good to know that there’s an org like this! i love volleyball so much and i hope i can play again.
