Shakey’s V-League Season 6 (2nd Conference) Team Line Up

Shakey's V-League Season 6 (2nd Conference)

It’s time once again for the Shakey’s V-League tournament to take center stage. Its 2nd Conference for Season 6 is fast approaching. I think it should commence sometime this October? Last time around, it was the University of Santo Tomas that captured the crown during the 1st conference. The Tigresses defeated then defending champs San Sebastian College-Recoletos in 3 sets.

Balse-less UST

After taking a look at the latest Shakey’s V-League team line up info, looks like UST will be missing the services of their MVP player Mary Jean Balse. (To my initial disbelief, I did go over the list at least 3x before it dawned to me that UST will really be “Balse-less” this time around). She will be replaced by running spike specialist Roxanne Pimentel as UST’s guest player.

Hmm, Rox Pimentel… that name really sounded very familiar. After doing some Google search, I learned that she was a part the RP Women’s Volleyball Team who defeated team Tonga (it’s a country!) during the 2006 FIVB Women’s World Championships. She was the team captain. I even found this very interesting photo of Rox Pimentel along with some famous volley belles:

Rox Pimentel and company

Yup, she’s the tall one at the center. And I thought Maureen Penetrante was the tallest. Who are the other players in the photo? (Here’s another photo that is more interesting because of the placement of the hands… what’s up with that… see for yourself!) Note: Photos are Riki Shofa’s properties… TM!

Here are some other interesting stuff I noticed in the team lineup:

  1. UST will remain to be one of the top teams with veteran players like Aiza Maizo, Rhea Dimaculangan as setter, and guest player Rox Pimentel.
  2. Crowd favorite Angeli Tabaquero is back in the line up for UST. But no Denise Tan though… dammit! Maybe we’ll see her as a court side reporter instead.
  3. San Sebatian will start the conference without any guest players. I didn’t see Louann Latigay and Rysabelle Devanadera in the lineup. Veteran coach Roger Gorayeb will still handle the Lady Stags.
  4. Interestingly, the Lady Eagles are called “Team Ateneo-Oracare”. Charo Soriano will remain as the team’s guest player. Watch out for rising star Gretchen Ho. Mic Mic Laborte remains at the sideline as their assistant coach.
  5. As for Far Easter University, queen of volleyball Rachel Ann Daquis will still play for the team. Macaila Irish Morada is no longer playing. Anne Taganas, Shai Gonzalez, and the rest of the veteran players will need to step up to fill in her shoes.

Here’s the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 (2nd Conference) Team Lineups as of Oct. 5/09. Info courtesy of TMX Sports:

No Morada this season?
Tabaquero is back!
No LaSalle?
Daquis is still in!

Hope this season still will be exciting.
But definitely, volleyball enthusiasts will still fill the game venues.
Looking forward to this season! YEY!

***Btw, who wrote this article? It seems “differently” written. ;)

I checked the sports section in the Manila Bulletin today. There’s an article their saying that the Shakey’s V-League management has BANNED La Salle from the tournament because they apparently have backed out again only at the last minute when all everything has been setup already. The question is… why did La Salle back out from V-League? :(

@pogssz: I wrote the article in a hurried fashion. Tagal ko na kasi di nakakapag blog eh. Very busy. Sensya na ha :)

Shakey’s V-League 6 Second Conference will be opening this Sunday na pala…

I have read an article from MB, and it says:
“[COACH RAMIL]De Jesus said they did not join the competition this conference because many of their players are rookies, hence, “we cannot compete competitively.””

I have also seen this article posted at PSEP a long time ago about the Game Schedules this season, and LaSalle was included. I guess Sports Vision/V-League Management really thought that the Lady Spikers will be joining this conference.

@spikey: no problem with the article. I just thought that it was “different” than the usual.

BTW, where did the roster of players come from? I checked v-league.ph and there was no post regarding the team line-ups for this season.

Moving forward…
It’s volleyball season once more! YEY!

Yup, that’s the article I read!!! I think what pissed off the folks from Sports Vision is the fact that La Salle backed out just in the last minute. And they informed them through text message. Sayang, I was looking forward to see the young guns of La Salle play pa naman specially Cha Cruz :)

This info was sent by TMX Sports nga who manages the official Vleague website which apparently hindi pa updated… probably because this lineup is NOT YET final malamang…

Cha Cruz… I really have this liking towards Setter-Spikers…
Sayang talaga… Sana lang, Sports vision will not permanently ban them from the league.
And hopefully, the lineup is NOT YET final.

how about venus bernal??? is she going to play??

Ateneo’s line up is very steady.. same with UST. pero i’ll go for ADMU pdin.. mukhang nag improve na tlga sila coz nakakuha na sila nang championship game sa isang volleyball league eh. nkalimutan ko lng yung pangalan.. for UST naman.. tignan natin kung gaano sila kagaling as a team na wlang balse at carolino..(may rox pimentel naman.hahaha!).. makikita natin kung nag improve na ba tlga as a team(line up in UAAP) ang USTe.. pero syempre ndi prin mawawala yung confidence nila bcoz a legend is back.. ANGELI TABAQUERO,, one of the legends..(balse-bernal-tabaquero tandem).. a big threat for the other teams.. hay! exciting.. kaso wla defending champs nang UAAP which is DLSU! khit naman datuin and santos and i think si alarca ata but i’m not that sure ha,, is hindi na maglalaro, magaling pdin naman kasi andun pa si cruz, mercado, and martinez and gohing is still there.. may laban pdin naman cla..

Ateneo looked impressive against UP yesterday, particularly in the 2nd and 3rd sets. Cainglet’s hits looked to have gained more power and Pascual was moving and hitting a whole lot better than before. Didn’t get to see much of Gervacio’s power, and Ho was only used towards the end. Ferrer was just great at setting and serving.

I’m obviously a fan, though I felt bad with the loss of my alma mater to them. If only UP could play as well as they did during the 1st set. Still, seeing them there is enough to make me drive from Pasay to San Juan. hehehe

la salle? rookie players? they do consider alarca, martinez, cruz, gohing as rookies? or are they just to afraid to be ashamed?

the games are broadcasted via livestreaming at http://www.v-league.ph.

you can therefore watch the games live. unfortunately, the quality of the videos are at the mercy of your internet connection.

bkt wla po si denise tan?

santos, datuin, laguilles, latigay and devanadera not playing because they have no more playing eligibility

morada is not there bcoz i think she has issues with the team

bernal, balse, roces, latigay not there because national team players are not allowed to participate even as guest players

dlsu back-out issue is certainly not good esp back-out din cla nung first conference.. they did play sa unigames here in iloilo and for sure sa uaap..
