University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University will return in action in the 2nd conference of the Shakey’s V-league which is scheduled to start this October 19, 2008 at The Arena, San Juan City. The return of the two schools was confirmed by the V-League operations director Ricky Palou. Both schools took a leave of absence during the last V-League conference due to academic reasons.
Other schools participating in the league are: Adamson University (1st conference champions), San Sebastian College-Recoletos (84th NCAA champions), Lyceum of the Philippines (WNCCA champions), Ateneo De Manila University (1st conference runner-up), Far Eastern University (UAAP 70 champions), and College of Saint Benilde.
The Tigresses and the Lady Archers are the winning-est teams in the V-League. Both teams have won three titles already.
On Guest Players
This time around, each participating team will be allowed to acquire a total of two additional players outside the school roster: one (1) guest player, and one (1) alumna .
“We picked Mary Jean Balse as our guest player and Venus Bernal as the alumna player, making sure that one of the best duos in volleyball will stay with the Tigresses”, according to UST Coach Casseal (Shaq) delos Santos. “Balse and Bernal are assured of playing for us, that is why we have started training for the V-League,” Delos Santos said.
As for the defending champs Lady Falcons, they will still have first-conference MVP Nene Bautista and Janet Serafica as their guest and alumna players, respectively. Ateneo de Manila will have veteran Charo Soriano to play for them as the alumna player. They are also currently scouting for Thai guest player. San Sebastian will take in Jinni Mondejar as their alumna player.
Defending UAAP Women’s Volleyball champs FEU acquired Ers Iratay as their guest player and Joan Bunag as the alumna player.

This conference will be interesting to watch because UST and DLSU returned in V-league. It will be a tight competition. Any team can emerge as the champion for this conference.

I’ve heard na hindi ata seseryosohin ng UST ang V-league ngayun… Parang gagawing lang nilang practice tournament ang V-league in preparation for UAAP… I hope seryoshin pa rin nila… At mag champion sila.
And I hope maglaro si Angeli Tabaquero na napabalita na “nag-quit” sa team (dahil ata sa problem sa schedule and workload)

I not surprise if a player will quit the team because Coach August is not part of it and the Korean consultant interferes with the volleyball program of UST. It might be one of the reasons why tabaquero quit because of their differences. UST has a lot of issues to settle before UAAP 71, if they want to maintain their winning tradition.
I hope tabaquero change her mind, UST will not competitive without her. They underwent a rebuilding process after Coach August left due to medical reasons.
It will not be satifying to watch SVL and UAAP if UST will play below par as expected. They are one of the popular teams which have a huge following from sutdents, alumni, and friends.
I wish they could settle whatever issues they are now facing. It’s not easy to see UST without coach august and their kind of game.
Hmmm…. “Korean consultant” interfering with UST volleyball program. I’m sure I saw this guys before ‘coz I remember there would always be this Korean guy who always (violently) shouts at Tabaquero and her teammates giving instructions on what to do inside the court…
I thought avid fan lang sya. So he’s part of the training program of UST pala. I’m sure he has good intentions naman for the team.

Things will be okay and brighter if the Korean consultant will be removed from the coaching staff and program of UST. He antagonize not only UST players but also the people watching the game with his berating words towards the players and coaches.

I share the same sentiments with you….UST will not be the same if Angge will not play anymore with them. This will be a big disappointment for UST fans and friends if UST will play below par. The rivalry between UST and FEU will not also the same as before.
Sorry guys! it seems UST will not reach the final four at least this UAAP 71. Let’s see UST in SVL without Angge in the team…..

I’m a solid UST fan. If the rumor is true that UST will not be serious about this 2nd Conference, let’s look back at the time they took a leave of absence and then they came back and grab the 1st and 2nd conference crown during the last season. The ball is round and anything goes with it. Now that UST is back, I’m pretty sure it would be exciting co’z lots of fans missed them and I know team UST is a Crowd drawer so with La Salle and other teams. Another exciting part is the guest players for other teams. I’ll just be hoping that this would be again a very much more exciting and intense games to come. Viva Thomasino! UST Campione! Go USTE! UST will always a competitive team whatever happens…Their winning tradition will speak for it. If rumors are true or not, let’s wait and see for the SVL to start and gauge the performance not only UST but other teams. UAAP 71 will start on November. That will be the true battle for volleyball supremacy.

I don’t think that the Korean consultant interferes with the volleyball program of UST, if that so, why is it that the UST team still produces good players (even top ranking ones)? and why other teams still adapts the programs that he provided? Don’t you think your being unfair to him? Don’t judge him as if you know him. He has good intentions.
I also want to comment about Angge quitting the team. Yah, maybe she’s a big lost to the team. But I don’t think that the UST team would mind if she’ll play or not…there are lots of potential players who would love to play for ust. So why care for someone who don’t even care for the team. A good player never quits. If she has the guts to leave the team then maybe she’s not a volleyball player by heart.

a good volleyball player and a bright person as well knows what can serve her well..so if she thinks quitting for a while is the perfect decision,nobody can judge it because it’s her life not yours..she knows what she’s doing and she’s not obsessed playing volleyball that even if she doesnt like anymore what she’s doing,she’ll still play,i love her heart and courage to stand for her decision,those who cant understand are those narrow minded and losers!!!go study your life and see if your following your dreams and doing good to others

I also believe it’s unfair to comment that Team UST will not take the V-league seriously and make it just a practice session for the UAAP. I believe in Team UST, they will always give it their best in all games whatever the tournament, be it the UAAP, Unigames, or the V-league. Watch out for their new recruits (Ateneo is not the only team with good recruits). Angge’s decision not to play might be a “blessing in disguise”. Other players have stepped up their games, remember aiza maizo (the leftee?)she has improved a lot! they have two new players… WATCH them OCT. 19, 2PM don’t be late, it will be just three straight sets.
and about the korean consultant, he’s gone na. UST has terminated his contract.

Mayeth Carolino is the guest player, while Saet might be the alumna player for DLSU. Michelle Carolino was suppose to be the guest player for FEU, but she beg off for Joan Bunag who wants to play for FEU.
Michelle Carolino will be part of the coaching staff for FEU this V-league conference.
Oh okay. After I talked to the Lady Archers last night, they said that Miss Relea Ferina Saet might just be their player this coming conference. I’m not sure about Miss Marietta Carolino playing for the Lady Archers after a conflict last 2nd Conference, 2nd Season of the V-League.
Let’s wait and see. All of it will be answered once the V-league starts. Coach Nes is looking forward to meet your DLSU, because of the publicity that they are a strong and competitive team after taking a leave of absence last conference. With the return of Manila Santos will make more exciting to watch DLSU play.
and Anineo too is boasting about its rookies,and Anineo always has the smallest players like Feu that’s why I’m fond of them,like typical Filipina height playing volleyball,hehehe,i hope to see Anineo in the Final Four,i hope to see Em-orn again coz she’s good,just too young maybe..

The UST players don’t have a problem with Mr. Song.They even like it when Mr. Song watches their games. He’s been with UST for more than 10 years na, days pa ni Roxanne Pimentel yun, so come to think of it, he had a lot of contributions sa campaign ng USTWVT over the years, including last 4 championship titles that they won.(UAAP season 69, Shakey’s Vleague 2007 1st & 2nd Conferences & 2008 PVF Intercol…)
With regard to Ange’s decision not to play, bigay na naten sa kanya yun. Just be thankful for all her contributions sa USTWVT.She has always played with passion and determination to win naman.
Let’s be surprised on how USTWVT will perform on the upcoming Vleague.

I hope SPORTS VISION will finally organize an ALL-STAR V-League Exhibition Game.
