UE Red Shirts seeks to sweep UAAP 71 Juniors Volleyball this Saturday

  • UE vs. ADMU
    September 13, 2008 (Saturday), 11am
    venue: UE-Recto gym

This will be the final game in the Double-Round Eliminations for UAAP 71 Juniors Volleyball. If University of the East wins over Ateneo de Manila, then they will sweep the eliminations and become the champions. If the Blue Spikers manage to snatch and win this game, then there will be a best of three battle for the championship.

  • TRIVIA: Since 1996, the UE Juniors Volleyball Team have won 7 championship crowns. They also hold the best championship winning streak capturing the last four UAAP Juniors Volleyball championship titles.

During their first round encounter, UE defeated Ateneo in three straight sets: 25-19, 25-22, 25-17. Top team UE is heavily favored to win this Saturday’s showdown. It’s now or never for Ateneo. So what do you think will be the outcome?

As much as I want to side with one of the two strongest teams, it will be very hard for me cause a lot of them are my friends. Haha.

But I really am rooting for Ateneo to win so that there will be a championship series.

The key here is just defense for Ateneo. It all depends on Kim Alcantara, one of the best liberos I’ve seen in high school volleyball together with Jerome Eugenio of UE. If Kim Alcantara will have a good game, then there might be championship games but if Michael Reyes and the other boys of UE will have a field day in scoring, call it a 5-peat championship for the Red Pages. This is Ateneo for the win if ever Kim Alcantara digs very well and Neil Flores, Gelo Caancan and JP Pareja will all play their games.

UE def. ADMU in 4 sets.

25 – 23
11 – 25
27 – 29
21 – 25

We gave them a good fight. That’s what matters the most.
Malakas talaga sila eh. haha.

A very good fight indeed! Looking at the scores, you must have surprised them by winning the first set :) Kaso nagalit at tinambakan kayo sa second set, hehe. Then the remaining sets were so close it could have gone either way…

Good game guys. Congrats to the UE Warriors!

mali ang info na nakalagay dito… it was not ue who owns the best championship winning streak… DE LA SALLE ZOBEL has the longest championship streak in uaap highschool vbol… 7 staight if im not mistaken… it happened during the time of AJ MALLARI of la salle zobel… but ue is on its way to break it..

It’s DLSZ who holds current longest streak from 94′-01′ please correct info. we have had sweeps almost every year. .

@filmrocks: As far as I remember too during my time back in high school, it was DLSZ who would always come up as the champs. Middle blocker AJ Mallari was one hell of a blocker. They also had an excellent all-around setter (forgot his name)…

Anyways, all info was taken from this UAAP Volleyball Wikipedia entry which says that UE has the longest winning streak. But if you notice, the data is actually not complete. So maybe someone should update the entry if they can prove it…

so i wonder who thought ue won against dlsz from 1996 to 2001. i was present and part of the team that killed UE in 1996 alone for the jrs volleyball crown.

@filmrocks: According to the UAAP Volleyball Wikipedia entry, UE started to dominate the Boys’ Division from 2002 ’til present. During season 2000-2001 as well other previous years, the data is blank! So I suppose those ‘missing data’ should indicate DLSZ as the defending champions.

So the question of which team between DLSZ and UE had the most number of UAAP Boys’ Volleyball championship titles still remains unanswered… unless someone fills in the blank or comes up with verifiable data.
:)

ang alam ko naging palyer din dito ung mga kabatch ko nung elemnetary ^^ nagchampion den sila nun
