Kung meron man eh gatungaw.

Palibhasa ang corruption sa Pinas eh way of life na so habang buhay na tayong magsasuffer.

Would like to add my 2 cents in, ika nga...I believe we need to overhaul our mindset and schedule in training the youth (in whatever sports).

Currently, the government sponsors our athletes only when there is competition coming up in a few months or provide outrageous incentives for the athletes to get medals in whatever international competition. This is fine and dandy as a short term goal for local or regional events (as somebody pointed out).

But, in order to even be competititve, much less, attempt to win gold at International events, we need to train our youth and have them develop their competetive skills and spirit at a much earlier age.

Rather than training them when they reach College age level, we can start at the grass roots level (particularly 4th or 5th grade) and build our way up.

But don't we already have that in our PE classes? Unfortunately, I have to say "no". PE just gives an overview of what the sport is...If you have a good PE instructor you are one of the lucky few. Intramurals within the schools are fine...but without a coach to develop and drill the basic fundamentals in the kids, these are just exercises in bad habits and improper team movement.

High School Varsity (if the kids ever make it to one) is the first time kids are exposed to "formal" skills with a coach...but by that time, our youth are several YEARS behind their counterpart in other countries in their knowledge of the game...hence when our athletes enter the International arena at a College level, we are sorely beaten and outclassed.

It is not our physical skills or even our DNA that drag us down to be the whipping boys of Asia...it is our lack of FORMAL TRAINING at an early age.

*How do I know this? I am a Middle School (gr 5-8) Volleyball Head Coach of a US Catholic Elementary School...and my 7th Grade team won 2 Championships last season playing against other good teams in our area. I did NOT have formal volleyball training while growing up in QC nor did I play in a varsity while in college...but when I volunteered to coach my daughter's school team, I wanted to coach them properly and had to research several resources that I used to properly teach and train the kids to be competitive.

Race/DNA doesn't have anything to do with it. At this early level, everybody is relatively equal in strength and ability.

So let's stop having this short-range training programs and dreams of Gold everytime we compete only to fail miserably...we have to put in our time and PROPER training at an early age and reap the benefits when our youth become competitive at International events.

Until this shift in training our youth happens, well, you already know what happens....but let me say this: Kaya ng Pinoy!!

Salamat Po.

Filipino athletes only excel in professional boxing (AIBA does not allow professional boxers in their sanctioned tournaments such as Olympics) and billiards, both disciplines that are not staged in Olympics.

Let's stop dreaming for the elusive Olympic gold.
