11. How do you feel playing for one of the best schools not only in academics and also in sports like Ateneo?

Tomie: I feel very much honored. Only a few students are chosen to represent the school and it really makes me grateful that I get to carry my school’s name and defend it in the field of sports, Volleyball in particular.

Gelo: At first, I wasn’t quite comfortable with Ateneo because I transferred from La Salle Green Hills after Grade 7, but now, I can say that it really has been like my second home. Along with Katipunan Avenue. Haha! Because of school work, gatherings, training and gimmicks, most of us are usually in Ateneo. But it was through joining the Volleyball Team that I really became at home in this school.

JP: Of course, it’s an honor for me to be a student-athlete in Ateneo. I’m happy and proud to be an Atenean. With these things in mind, I feel that I mustn’t waste my opportunities as an athlete in Ateneo.

Neil: I feel honored to play for the Ateneo. In the Ateneo, the student athletes like us are not only good at sports but we are also good students. Everything I do in the court shows who I am as an athlete and as a student of the Ateneo.

12. If you were to play for another school, what would it be and why?

Tomie: I think I’d play for UST because I really admire their coaches and trainers. From time to time, they are always able to produce strong players. They do their best in training all their players and in to bringing out all the potentials their players have. I’d be very privileged if I get to play for their team.

Gelo: I wouldn’t have it any other way right now. Perhaps playing for another school may have advantages or disadvantages, but I’m happy with what I have now.

JP: I think it’s a good choice to play for UP. I know that UP performs well in terms of academics. With this, I believe that it’s a good opportunity for me to learn well about whatever course I’ll be taking and also play volleyball at the same time.

Neil: I never thought of playing for another school. Sa Ateneo lang talaga.

13. How valuable is the factor called “heart” in every game?

Tomie: It is very important to have your “heart” in the game because with it, you’ll definitely give a good fight. It is not enough that you have the skills. You should also have the dedication and the will to win, the determination to give all your best in each and every game.

Gelo: In a game, it’s not only the mind that works. The heart gives each player the thirst to play to the best he/she can. What is a game if you wouldn’t strive to give your best, right? Every game is important, and not using your heart in a game could just lead to your downfall. Heart is especially used when the team is pressured. Of course when everyone is about to give up, the only way to overcome this is by playing your game and using your head and heart. At least there won’t be regrets if you give your heart to the game.

JP: To have a heart for anything that you’re doing only means success. To have a heart is to be passionate. To be passionate for something is to love that certain thing. To have a heart is to win.

Neil: Heart is the drive of every athlete. It is the most powerful factor, where we draw our passion, strength and determination. The heart submerges us into the game itself. When our heart is really in the game we will be able to achieve our goals.
