After the conclusion of Shakey’s V-League Season 5 and 2008 National Open, the collegiate volleyball season have just started. The 84th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Volleyball Tournament started with a simple opening ceremony in San Beda College (SBC) gymnasium last July 12, 2008. Seven teams paraded with their respective juniors, women’s, and men’s volleyball players together.
The tournament happens every first semester of the academic year. The NCAA has three divisions namely Juniors for high school students, Seniors for male college students, and Women’s for female college students.
The San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R) Women’s and Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL) Men’s are the reigning champions coming into this season. You can see the history of NCAA Volleyball over here. It is easy to notice that some players will not see action this 84th NCAA season, like Jinni Mondegar of SSC-R and Bang Pantanleone of Letran. The games will be played either in SBC or SSC-R gym every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The team schedule of games will be posted in the coming days. Come and watch the NCAA volleyball games.

NCAA volleyball opens Saturday
July 11, 2008MANILA, Philippines – The National Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball tournament kicks off with the women’s teams of Perpetual Help and San Beda College clashing at the San Beda College Gymnasium in Mendiola, Manila.
The Lady Altas and the Lady Lions duel at 9 a.m., right after the opening ceremonies scheduled at eight o’clock. The men’s squads of Perpetual and San Beda collide at 10 a.m., while their juniors teams will cross paths at 11 a.m.
San Sebastian is the defending champion in both the women’s and juniors divisions, while Letran College is the reigning men’s winners.
The Lady Stags, the winningest women’s squad in NCAA history with 19 titles, are aiming for a fourth straight championship, but coach Roger Gorayeb’s wards must do it without ace blocker Jinni Mondejar who has exhausted her playing eligibility.
“It’s a big challenge for us to win another title because Jinni is no longer around aside from the fact that mabigat ang laban talaga, malakas ang ibang teams,” said Gorayeb, whose team downed the Saint Benilde Lady Blazers in the championship round last season.
In their bid to rebound from a disappointing third-place finish in the recently concluded Shakey’s V-League first conference, San Sebastian will rely on reigning Most Valuable Player Lou Ann Latigay, Sasa Devanadera, Joy Benito and sisters Margarita and MJ Pepito.
Saint Benilde, which also competed in the V-League last summer, remains the biggest threat on the distaff side.
The Lady Blazers hope that team captain Anna Maranan, Katty Kwan, Doreen Sanchez, Giza Yumang and libero Zarah Lasac will step up this season.

I think the games will not be televised. You can watch the games every tuesday, thursday, and saturday in either SBC or SSC-R gym. The schedule of games will be posted here soon.
Oh! I hope it really gets televised. If you have news about the games’ TV coverage please do keep us updated. A lot of v-fanatics would really love to see games on tv; we can’t always go the game venues to watch the games live. Hehehe! THANKS!!!
It is still an aspiration to have these games be televised. Maybe on the 85th NCAA it may happen. However, the semis and finals might be televised if the NCAA has enough budget for it. It is quite costly to televise the volleyball game since NCAA doesn’t have a enough budget for it.
