After UE’s 14-0 sweep (in UAAP basketball) of the elimination round and their subsequent defeat in the best-of-three finals against La Salle after 21 days of rest, the UAAP Board approved changes in case a team wins all of their elimination round assignments. The sweeping team will only need to win twice in the finals; the other finalist has to win thrice.
I’ve read about this new UAAP sweep rule in the papers. The new rule implies that a team who wins all 14 games (or in other words, sweeps) the elimination round will not only secure a finals slot, but also: 1.) will only need to win twice in the finals, while 2.) their opponents will need to win thrice. The UAAP Board has already approved this new rule along with other new rules for UAAP basketball. This new rule seeks to give more recognition and “incentive” to the team who can sweep the elimination round, which is a very hard thing to do.
UAAP Season 71 has officially started yesterday July 5, 2008. Now that’s for basketball at least. (By the way, it’s Ateneo vs. La Salle today, July 6 Sunday, at the Araneta Coliseum 4pm). As for the UAAP volleyball tournament, it usually starts during the second semester to give way for the Shakey’s V-League. Expect UAAP Volleyball Season 71 to happen sometime this December probably.
Does this new UAAP-sweep rule apply to all sports including volleyball? Now a sweep is indeed a very ‘rare’ occasion in UAAP basketball at least. But what about in UAAP volleyball? What do you think?

No. In Volleyball, if a team sweeps, there will still be a Final Four using the same format. It will not be changed. It will remain the same.

it should only be applicable to basketball and not in volleyball… a sweep in the basketball is very rare but in volleyball is common especially in women’s. the number one in the final four should be enough for a team who can sweep the eliminations.

itu suggestion ko,Volleyball,kapag both teams tied with two sets a piece,magkakaroon ng DUece,first to get straight 2 sets will win the game,diba shosyal!!!malalaman mo kung sino talaga matatag kung sino ung gusto talaga manalo saka ung teamna susuko na lang sa pagod,heheeh

gusto ko yung suggestion ni sly sobrang sosyal ”duece” b!!! ang mas maganda pag parehas sila nanalo ng 2 sets dapat sa 5 set up to 25 parin,,, pwede kaya un? i hope so
