31. Do you have an inspiration? Anyone who makes your playing go a level higher?
Yes, I do have inspirations. I find them in all things, in all forms, in all people. It varies from day to day. This day, I could be inspired by what my mother said. The next day, I could be inspired by a song. The next, by something I watched in a movie. Anything and everything can be an inspiration, you just have to know how to channel it in such a way that you are motivated and encouraged.
32. What do most people do not know about you?
I was a bit of an artist when I was younger. I especially like portrait drawing. It amazes and at the same time challenges me to capture the expression, the emotion of the subject – much like photography.
33. Does “heart” really matter when playing volleyball?
For me, heart is everything. It’s the center of our thoughts, our emotions. It can give you the drive to push yourself a bit more, to give out what you can and even what you can’t, to exert all possible actions, to sacrifice yourself and pour yourself in the game. Without it, everything would be stagnant, or worse, chaotic. Without it, why even play?
34. Do you cry when you lose? Why? What game in V-League or UAAP made your cry?
Oh my…I’ve don’t even remember how many games made me cry, but I recall they were all lost games. I think my cumulative tears can fill up a tank. Yup, I’ve cried that much. Why? Sometimes I cry because I felt that I could’ve given more, could’ve done something else, could’ve been someone better. Sometimes I cry out of frustration because of my inability to change the outcome. Sometimes, the tears just come flowing out. hehe
34. Do you brag about winning?
I have never bragged about winning. Bragging connotes a bad meaning, sort of like boasting.
35. Do you trashtalk? What are the goods and bads in trashtalking?
I don’t recall ever trashtalking. Maybe if I did, it was done my by unconscious self. Hehe For me, trashtalking is part of the strategy of the players to either psyche themselves up or intimidate their opponent. Also, it hypes up the crowd, give them a bit of entertainment. What’s good about it is that it’s a pretty effective and reliable strategy. However, there is a thin ethical line between using this as a strategy and belittling the opponent or letting them feel belittled. What I am trying to avoid is the latter.
36. Adidas or Nike?
Nike. (Oh, Charo by the way is an endorser for Nike).
37.Water, Gatorade, or Pocari Sweat?
Gatorade.
38. Sweats or shorts?
Shorts.
39. What’s your inspirational music before a game or practice?
Anything “danceable” and upbeat.
40. Any lucky charm? Where’d you get it?
None.
41. Any basketball crush? Volleyball crush?
None.
42. List down 5 persons you want to meet.
Gandhi, Hitler, Oprah, M. Night Shyamalan, Rafael Nadal.
43. Who is God for you?
God is our Father Almighty, the maker of all in existence, the eternal Being who is there for us when everyone else leaves. He’s our guide, our mentor, our strength, our peace. God is my ultimate pillar.
44. What do you think the players or volleyball body should do to increase the popularity of the sport here in our country?
There should be integration between the players and the organizers. In order to increase the growing popularity of the sport here in the Philippines, both parties should be active. Also, both parties should have a more personal involvement with the Sport, maybe going in lengths of charities and foundations. I think people would be more involved in the sport if the sport would be more involved with them.
45. How did volleyball change your life or how did volleyball made a mark in your life?
Volleyball turned my life around. I did a 180-degree turn from being a “rebellious” teenager to a responsible athlete. The sport made me realize how to take care of myself, how to place importance on my health, how to place importance to my being. It has taught me a lot of other things in all the facets in my life, may it be mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual. Volleyball, more than being a game of the skill, is more of a game of the mind.
46. What’s your message for the other aspiring volleyball players there? Your family And your fans? Ateneo community?
To God, with whom all things are possible, thank you for the blessings, the graces, the trials, and the challenges that you have bestowed upon me.
To all the aspiring volleyball players out there, having an aspiration is always the start. Once you aspire, once you dream, once you hope, you open doors for opportunities and circumstances. It may not be always easy. There will be bumps on the road. I guarantee you that. But what’s important is to keep your focus. As long as you have a willing heart, the mind and the body will follow.
To my family, they have been my greatest support system, my pillars of strength. Thank you, guys. I love you with all my heart.
To the fans, thank you for your support. You have been my inspiration, my driving force. You have made my life more meaningful.
To the critics, thank you for the criticisms. I deeply respect you opinion and am very much happy that you give time to find fault in some of the things that I do. Without your help, growth and improvement would not be possible.
To the Ateneo community, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (For the Greater Glory of God).

Charo is really an inspiration to all those fans who at first was just admirers of the sport but because of Charo’s dedication to the sport has been drawn to to try and play the sport,Charo, from being a support to her team developed to be one of the Greatest player i have seen,i myself is one of them, when ive seen Men’s net height compared to my height,i was really discouraged to try the sport but when i c Charo play, her dedication and her will to improve her skills made me believe i can also be as good her,as of know i can spike quite good despite the height net and im mastering all Charo’s play,i even incorporated the Charo Soriano shriek koz i believe that the shriek forced you to really hit the ball hard, and i observe Jarin Segodine and some other gals are all now have their own distinct shriek, hehehe,i am really glad to have seen how Charo played, she’s my inspiration to do better,Charo and Wendy Anne Semana truly are the best thing that happened to Volleyball this past years and because of them many will be encouraged to play the sport and be as good as them..
my favorite QOute that came from Charo…

Nice article; inspiring and enlightening
Every time I watched ADMU games I always see Charo running, jumping, attacking, blocking and even setting the play. Her energy amazes me; but more than that, her skill and disposition in the game. WIN or LOSE she gracefully accepts with a trace of smile on her face. It really shows the love she has for the game.
To Charo: I am now what you call a Charonatics! (hhmm, i’m also a Karlanatics (sounds like a flying school)
To Charo and the writer of this article: KUDOS!
