8 teams have tried. 2 remained dominant at first. 2 came from the south to challenge the other 4. But among the 6, only 2 prevailed as well. The 2 from the quarterfinals joined the 2 who dominated the eliminations. And now there are 4. 4 teams who prevailed. 4 teams who have achieved among the 8. Among them, only 2 will again prevail to proceed to the next battle. A battle for supremacy. A battle to be the greatest.
The Stags of Recto, the Falcons of San Marcelino, the Eagles of Katipunan and the Pirates of Muralla are the teams who prevailed among the eight which also includes the Stingers of Bacolod, the Jaguars of Cebu, the Tamaraws of Morayta and the Blazers of Taft. The last four weren’t successful but needless to say, they are teams who challenged the final four to the maximum. If it weren’t for them, these four will not be successful in getting there. If it weren’t for them, these final four teams will not be able to strut their stuff and bring out the best in their selves.
The Final Four have all accomplished so many things already in V-League. San Sebastian already made it to the Finals for three consecutive times. Adamson and Ateneo have both been hailed as third placers and had the right to challenge different teams towards the Finals. Lyceum meanwhile was also hailed as third place way back in the third season but what’s remarkable is their incredible run in last summer’s conference where they swept almost all of their elimination games and in the third season where they swept the second round of the semifinals against the then-champions La Salle, San Sebastian, Adamson and FEU.
Talk about guest players, the four teams also has four of the best players in both Thailand and in the Philippines. You have Miss Neriza Bautista for Adamson, a National Team stalwart who has played for several teams like Ateneo and UST and has proven herself as one of the best spikers in our country. Likewise, you have one of Lyceum’s legends in Miss Dahlia Cruz where we know how she steered Lyceum in the incredible runs that they’ve had in the V-League. Ateneo has of course acquired a new and young Thai import in Miss Em-orn Phanusit who is part of the current National Team of Thailand. And mind you, she is becoming one of the fan favorites in the V-League atmosphere because of her power in every ball. Of course, Miss Jaroensri Bualee will disagree if people say Miss Em-orn Phanusit is the only powerful Thai player in the league. Miss Jaroensri Bualee has established herself as one of the players to watch out in the league and is probably one of the most loyal guest players, playing for San Sebastian for the fourth big time.
Defense oriented is Adamson and Lyceum’s key to winning in the Finals. Their coaches are also established when it comes to this area. Both are good in floor defense. Both have very good liberos. And both teams are playing a quick-paced game. Miss Neriza Bautista and Miss Rissa Jane Laguilles are very good middle hitters who can do running attacks, back quicks, quick attacks and middle hitting quite well. Of course, not to be outdone, Lyceum has its share of good middle hitters in Miss Beverly Boto and Miss Dahlia Cruz who are also good in quick and running attacks and are both included in the top five of the Most Valuable Player Race. Now how will they convert the digging and receiving into points when the need arises? It’s for you guys to find out.

Ateneo vs. SSC in the finals! Yeah!
Haha! Okay yan rieze! Parehas nga pala tayong hindi maka… *toot* hehe:)
Base on my opinion, i’m still rooting for adamson to clinch the elusive v league title kasi:
GATA: UAAP season 70 best digger and v league’s best receiver LAGUILLES: UAAP season 70 best server SERAFICA: UAAP season 70 best setter
SEGODINE: one of the league’s aggressive blockers along with
Beverly Boto.
BENTING: hard-hitter at mataas ang vertical leaping ability.
BAUTISTA: one of the best spikers on our country.
SO: maasahang leader ng team.
PANTE: RP-WVT’s current coach..
Oh san ka pa! total package na kaya ang Adamson. Mapa-offense, floor at net defense tiyak na sila ang umaarangkada dun. Natalo agad nila ang Ateneo (take note) may import pa yun ah!
Me too! I want Adamson to win Season 5!! It will be well-deserved championship title for them in case they go all the way…
No offense meant, but if you compare the stats in the last meeting ng SSC-AdU, top scorer ng AdU si NeNe Bautista, while sa SSC hindi si Bualee ang top scorer, si Latigay. On hindsight, who do you think ang umasa sa GP? I’m just saying.
It may be true na in the past SSC relied heavily on the offense of Jang Bualee. But now, with the vast improvement of Mondejar and the offense of their one-two punch Latigay and Devanadera, I can say that Bualee would have lots of support. Also, let’s not blame the import. Both UST and La Salle, as history would prove, have pulled the rug from under San Sebastian and Bualee for three straight conferences. Import or no import, they have beaten SSC. So, can Adamson do the same? Will they lose and blame the import of the opponent? Or will they pull through like the two former champion teams? Let’s see.
sana adamson manalo… para all filipino.. hehe.. i have nothing against thai import or team that has one.. masaya lang talaga kapag puro pinoy yung nanalo.. goodluck sa lahat ng teams..
Bakit? Haha. Hindi ba pinoy si Charo Soriano? Jinni Mondejar?
Wow. I just new na Thais pala ang Ateneo at San Sebastian. Kaya naman pala. Now I know. Haha.
dun ako sa maraming seksi at bababoom talaga,SSC Admu finals!!wala kasing maganda at katakam takam sa ibang team!!!bwuahhaahahah
GO ADMU!!!!!
i hope the author of the article won’t find me disrespectful but i think among all the teams, adamson leads in digging and receiving mostly taken cared of by Gata and Laguilles.
THe most updated stats havent been released yet prior to the semifinals but again let us consider that the one that appears on the v league site now included stats of the quarterfinals where SSC and AdU wasnt playing by virtue of their previous wins.
I saw the game televised yesterday at NBN and almost all balls were given to Bualee compared to AdU who’s been distributed to the other three ladies: Segodine, Benting and Laguilles.
But then again, I will never say that SSC only depend on their GP because whatever anyone say, volleyball is a team sport and not an individual show.
With that, may the best team win…
Baste is definitely the team to beat this season but obviously, am rooting for Adamson!
Nooo…the best receiving team is STILL Baste. Neither Gata nor the younger Pepito could topple the efficiency of Margarita Pepito, which STILL leads the stat. However, the best digging team overall is AdU, although Dela Peña is the number one digger so far.
nakakaasar nga eh…
adu ang rumarampa masyado ngaung season 5…
grrrr…
wla na ngang ust ang feu nalagas mga veteran nila…
kaya talagang adu n lng mamamayani jan…tsk…
hayaan na natin. tsaka di pa naman tapos ang liga eh, we’re not even done with the semis yet. malay mo, the day of the finals may still NOT be the day that the Lord has made, contrary to what Coach Pante continually assumes.
