I am more of a women’s volleyball kinda guy from the start because it was more popular at that time. I do not know much about the the local men’s volleyball scene and the only male international players that I know are Kasakov of Russia and the Italian Vigor Bovolenta during the World League in the 1990s. Last year, the UAAP Men’s Volleyball championship series between Far Eastern University (FEU) and University of the Philippines (UP) caught my attention. And I was in awe watching one particular volleyball player.
This hard hitting spiker belongs to the FEU Men’s Volleyball team. He was one of the key players responsible for FEU’s three-peat championships in UAAP Men’s Volleyball. He ended his final UAAP playing year with an exclamation point by driving his team in capturing the championship crown against UP last year. He captured the Best Spiker award in that season.
TRIVIA: Did you know that FEU is the winning-est team in the history of UAAP Men’s Volleyball? They won a total of 43 championship crowns including a three-peat from Season 67th, 68th, and 69th. They failed to make it a four-peat when they lost to UST in Season 70.
Going back, this volleyball legend can jump really high and can spike it hard!!! He is no other than Jeremy Floyd Pedregosa. Last month, we were able to meet him during an FEU game, on which he is being groomed to be a part of the coaching staff. Luckily, I got a chance to interview with him through a series of online messages. Let’s get to know Jeremy…

Eric: What keeps you busy nowadays?
Jeremy: Summer activities. We’ll have a youth camp this coming May 21-24. Work and church activities.
Eric: Do you miss playing in the UAAP? What about it do you miss the most?
Jeremy: Medyo. I miss my playing weight. Hehehe.
Eric: Do you like reading? What’s your favorite book/s?
Jeremy: Yes! Purpose Driven Life, Chicken Soup, Undercover, and other inspirational books. I read newspaper more often.
Eric: Favorite music? Do you play any musical instrument/sing?
Jeremy: Of course Gospel songs. Guitar, pero hindi ako magaling mag gitara.
Eric: Do you have a special someone now?
Jeremy: Now? Marami. I treat everybody special.
Eric: How do you spend your weekend?
Jeremy: Fuel Xell - our youth gig every Saturday afternoon. I attend my class every Sunday morning. I’m taking a vocational course, Computer Techinician.
Eric: Favorite place?
Jeremy: Beaches.
Eric: Comfort food?
Jeremy: Boneless bangus.
Eric: Do you still get nervous every time you play? How do you get rid of that feeling?
Jeremy: No! I’m used to it.
