FEU’s Jeremy Pedregosa

Eric: Now let’s get into sports-related questions. Since when did you start playing volleyball?
Jeremy: 10 years old.

Eric: Most guys take basketball more seriously than volleyball. Why volleyball?
Jeremy: Basketball is my favorite sport talaga. I’m short kaya I think I can’t compete with taller guys in basketball. So nag-volleyball na lang ako since it’s a less contact game unlike basketball na prone sa injuries.

Eric: Were you a varsity player during your elementary and high school days?
Jeremy: Yup.

Eric: What was your greatest UAAP moment?
Jeremy: Learning from losing and winning.

Eric: You are a very effective hitter. In fact, you got the Best Spiker award during UAAP Season 69. What’s your anting-anting?
Jeremy: Include science in playing sports.

Eric: Who is your favorite volleyball players and why?
Jeremy: I rarely watch volleyball games on TV. Lahat naman magaling and I do appreciate every volleyball player kung ano ang style nila of playing the sport.

Eric: What other sport/s do you play aside from volleyball? And what sports do you want to try out for a change?
Jeremy: Badminton, basketball, chess, billiards, table tennis. I want to try pole vault, scuba diving - mga extreme sports.

Eric: I heard that you are not all sports, but an academic whiz as well. How were you able to balance your studies and being a varsity player at the same time during college?
Jeremy: Time management! I just schedule my priorities rather than prioritizing my schedules.

Eric: Have you ever played any Pinoy indigenous game like tumbang preso, patintero, taguan, and syato? What was your favorite?
Jeremy: Yup. Laro sa probinsiya yan. Halos lahat nasalihan ko na yang mga laro ng lahi na yan. Hehehe!!

Eric: What’s a good thing about winning? About loosing?
Jeremy: You become humble in winning. You learn from losing. Avoid making any excuses kapag talo. Make it a challenge to do better the next time.

Eric: What life lessons did you learn through sports?
Jeremy: Taking care of one’s health. Sports is a universal language. Marami tayong magiging kaibigan through sports. Be friendly and smile. Hehehe!!

Eric: Any message to those people who look up to you?
Jeremy: I’m weak, it’s God who makes me strong. To volleyball players and fans, every game is a lesson to learn and we are all students of the game kahit super galing ka na. Lastly, be practical, watch the potential of the sport/s you are going to engage into. Like volleyball, wala pang commercial league (specially for Men’s). After college, what’s next? Wag masyadong seryoso, mag-aral nang mabuti. After all ang kasikatan dumadaan lang yan. Thank you and God bless!

After reflecting on the answers that he gave, “J-Ped”, as I call him, is a person with a deep personality and is very attached to his spiritual life. He is definitely a role model to all of us. Kudos to Jeremy Pedregosa for being a good example and a great inspiration that he is to all volleyball fans! Special thanks goes to fellow Spikeithard.com folks and to Beezy for being an instrument in making this interview possible.

A rare find indeed. Jeremy is a perfect example of a really really good volleyball player who is very humble at religious pa. You can tell from his answers.

Hey Jeremy, let me know if you plan on playing with the Tues/Sat group again sa Ateneo college courts anytime soon. Para pupunta din ako and see you play :)
