Wasn’t able to watch the interview live on NBN Channel 4 yesterday (May 2, 2008 - Friday) but good thing someone thought of uploading it on YouTube. Yipee!! VleagueDOTtk is the pioneer volleyball fan website dedicated to the Shakey’s V-League as many of us know. Yesterday, three of their moderators including the site owner were invited to guest over at NBN Sports for an interview. They were: Ms. Shelly Dimaculangan, Jan Carlo “The Oracle” Gavile, and Evan Regodon (who also moderates the official v-league.ph website).

The show is hosted by Saleema Refran and you can watch it right after the delayed telecast of the Shakey’s V-League over at NBN Channel 4 (Tuesdays and Fridays I think). Last time, the show interviewed the Lady Eagles. Has anybody uploaded it on YouTube yet? I think they’ll be featuring the Visayan teams next. Thanks to NBN Sports for giving TV air-time to volleyball by featuring players as well as the fans in their shows.
There’s one request that is yet to be granted by NBN and Sports Vision to us volleyball fans: and that’s the Live TV Telecast of the Shakey’s V-League. Right guys!!? Kahit semis at finals man lang… As V-League Season 5 becomes more exciting, more and more people from all over are becoming fans of the sport.
I’ve collated some of the questions the host asked during the interview. Let’s pretend you’re sitting beside Shelly, Jan Carlo, and Evan. The host turns to you and asks:
- 1. Gaano nga ba talaga kalaki ang volleyball sa Pilipinas?
- 2. Let’s talk about V-League Season 5, what’s your prediction? How do you see the games going?
- 3. Si Jing (Bualee) bumalik na (for San Sebastian). Question ng marami, kaya kaya ng Adamson now without si Jacqueline Sow tapus pumasok na si Bualee?

Hi dee_pat14. I suppose it was a personal opinion posted by a member. =) There are various comments regarding UST’s performance recently.
But from what I frequently hear, they say that UST must re-compose themselves to build a stronger line-up. As noticed by some people, UST errors usually come from miscommunication and lack of play variations. Most of these flaws were observed allegedly during UAAP 70 where they unfortunately defended the title.

sobrang laki, masyado lang tayo nakafocus sa 3Bs - basketball, boxing and billards… halos lahat ng baranggay may volleyball league every summer

it’s going to be an adu-ssc finals… mejo mahina nga lang yung ilang teams
3. Si Jing (Bualee) bumalik na (for San Sebastian). Question ng marami, kaya kaya ng Adamson now without si Jacqueline Sow tapus pumasok na si Bualee?
they can, mahihirapan sila pero dapat lang nila sipagan at ayusin ang digging nila coz bualee is a very strong hitter

very welcome ang development na ito for all.. i hope na after this, madagdagan pa ang provincial teams

hindi naman… volleyball is neither ust nor la salle… most of us naman are supporters of the sport, not just schools

yung vleague kasi mas malakas ang laro kasi may guest players, tsaka cream of the crop ng ncr ang schools na naglalaro
9. What about plans on having a “commercialized” volleyball league? Parating pinag-uusapan yan, are you in favor of this?
yes yes yes… pati men’s at international-invitational games
10. What about the National (Volleyball) Team, your thoughts on that?
i hope they can play on the international stage, we really need that in order to compete.. just look at thailand, they were never a powerhouse from the start, pero hindi sila nag-give-up, during the late 90s and early 2000s they rose to be a powerhouse team in asia and in the world.
11. With V-League, nakikita niyo ‘tong mga batang players natin (who will) eventually become our full pledged National Team… may ibubuga naman (kaya) sa SEA Games?
we will not get a gold medal now ar in the near future, pero siguro naman kaya nating umabot sa gold medal match against thailand.

parang hindi naman iba sa other countries. Di ba may official size naman ang isang volleyball? parang pareho lang naman yung mga ginagamit dito sa Pinas.

I don’t want to comment on that one.

OK lang yan. I think most of the supporters of v-league are fans of the sport itself rather than the specific teams. Pero siyempre hindi naman maiiwasan na magkaroon ka ng faves.(seryoso kunwari)TEKA po.. nawawala ang lasalle at uste? may powers sia to vanish in thin air… I envy them…

Marami naman pong commercial breaks ang v-league, balak niyo po dagdagan?
OK lang po… basta hindi babawasan yung air-time ng mga games…
yun yung tanong niyo db? sige dagdag lang isama niyo rin yung all-purpose cream commercial, yung horror. Fave ko po kasi yun eh. LOL!
10. What about the National (Volleyball) Team, your thoughts on that?
ok naman po sila. Pinagdadasal ko po sila parati…
malamang sila na po ang kasagutan sa nagmamahalang presyo ng mga bilihin.
sa halip na bola ang binabayo nila, bigas na lang sana.

Buga? oo naman as long as buhay sila, may hangin silang ibubuga.

1. Gaano nga ba talaga kalaki ang volleyball sa Pilipinas?
Sa tingin mas sikat siya sa provinces, where there’s more space and time to actually play the sport. Pero unti-unti na rin siyang bumabalik.
2. Let’s talk about V-League Season 5, what’s your prediction? How do you see the games going?
I think the games would be interesting. Of course, expected na natin na medyo bumaba ang level of play dahil madaming new member teams and also rebuilding teams. That doesn’t make it less exciting, though.
3. Si Jing (Bualee) bumalik na (for San Sebastian). Question ng marami, kaya kaya ng Adamson now without si Jacqueline Sow tapus pumasok na si Bualee?
Sow? Diba iyun ay ingles ng inahing baboy? Baka you mean Jacqueline “So”. Hahaha. I’m a bigger fan of SSC-R than AdU, so siyempre biased ako when I say na there’s no way that Adamson could adjust quickly on SSC’s offense. Of course I could be wrong.
4. Nandito na ang 2 Visayan teams, ano ang nafo-forsee niyo dyan from what you’ve heard (in the forums)?
They’re not as good as I expected, but then again baka naninibago pa lang sila. At least USJ-R beat CSB.
5. Dun naman tayo sa mga nawalang teams, what about UST and La Salle? Do you think bumaba, sabi nung iba, ang fan base ng V-League kasi nawala ang UST and La Salle?
Well, totoo naman na may mabababaw na fans na school lang ang sinusuportahan. Actually, I doubt that those people (who won’t support the league anymore because of the absence of their teams/fave players) even know how to play volleyball or the technicalities of the sport. Pero in the end, I think mas naaapreciate pa rin ng tao yung sport n volleyball. Yep, madami talagang mawawala…pero dahil sa effort ng V-League sigurado kong mas madami pang papalit sa kanila!
6. Sinu-sino ba ang mga favorite players ninyo?
Weh…madami. I have a fetish for liberos. I like MJ Pepito and Tatan Gata. I also like the old line-up of FEU so bummer talaga na wala na yung veterans. In addition, I also like Marigail Tolentino and Karla Bello.
7. Nabasa ko ‘to sa vleagueDOTtk ha, yung UST daw kung lumaro daw this conference baka (most likely) natalo rin daw… what can you say about that?
I think UST is a victim of a depleted line-up. After losing their double “M” so suddenly, nahirapan sila talagang mag-adjust. Pero siyempre ‘di din rason yun. As any team, responsibilidad mong magtrain ng new players na papalit sa veterans. UST just failed to produce decent rookies this time around. That, and the fact na injured kalahati ng line-up nila, means na mahihirapan silang idefend ang crown nila this conference.
8. Ano ba talaga meron ang V-League na talagang sobrang iniisip-isip niyo siya at hindi na kayo makatulog… compared to the UAAP and NCAA?
Hindi lang V-League, volleyball mismo. UAAP pa lang atat na kong makauwi ng maaga every wednesday para lang makapanood, haha… I just find volleyball really exciting. Tapos this conference pa sa V-League ang daming close games, so you can never really know who can make an upset or not.
9. What about plans on having a “commercialized” volleyball league? Parating pinag-uusapan yan, are you in favor of this?
I am in favor of it. It just makes more sense to me. Having a commercialized league would hasten the promotion of volleyball in the country, which is the primary aim of the V-League. Regarding naman sa issue na baka mawala ang “school spirit”, well, kailangan natin isacrifice yun para mas maging popular ang voleyball. Advantage din yun kasi mas magiging maayos ang recruitment, meaning magiging competitive.
10. What about the National (Volleyball) Team, your thoughts on that?
I don’t know. Ask Coach August. Although I can say one thing…sana medyo iwanan natin ang Volleyball Bible and become less traditional in our player selection.

Some, yes. I think Cindy Velasquez of CSB should be part of our Nat’l Team.

My piece of opinion to all the questions

Sa tingin ko sobrang popular na ito belongs to top 5 sports in Pinas na. with the help of tv and internet volleyball becoming more popular every season.
2. Let’s talk about V-League Season 5, what’s your prediction? How do you see the games going?
Unpredicted kasi maraming di inaasahang pangyayari. Gaya na lang ng Lyceum, I never thought they are good as they are now mukha kasing sila ang magco-complete sa final four this season (ADU, SSCR, ADMU and LPU). Sayang ang chance ng FEU nawala ung mga key players nila parang tulad sila ng UST ng kapalaran pero at least nag-join pa rin ang FEU unlike sa USTE.
3. Si Jing (Bualee) bumalik na (for San Sebastian). Question ng marami, kaya kaya ng Adamson now without si Jacqueline Sow tapus pumasok na si Bualee?
Eto ang malupit! Baulee is additional force sa maganda ng offense ng SSC. Jacqueline So???? huh… malaki ba talaga ang tulong niya sa ADU? di ko lang alam..hmmmpppp. One thing I’m sure, kayang kaya ng SSC ang ADU!

USJR medyo may ibubuga pero ang St. La Salle naku mas magaling pa ata ung team namin sa province hahahaha!

In a way, oo bumaba ang fan base kasi ang mga USTE masyadong die hard ang mga yan sa school lang nila hindi talaga sa sports. Ung La Salle naman hindi sumama dahil di napagbigyan gusto nila pero ok lang dahil mas marami parin fan ng volleyball sport hindi ng school lang.
6. Sinu-sino ba ang mga favorite players ninyo?
Syempre, number 1 ko si Charo Soriano, Roces, Laborte, Latigay, Devanadera, Mondejar, Kara Acevedo at saka ung 2 pinakamagaling na libero sina Gata at Pepito. Namimiss ko rin ang laro ni Macatangay at Manilla Santos.

For sure un, kasi di nga sila umubra sa UAAP sa v-league pa kaya kahit na pa sabihin na sila ang defending champion. Napaka-vital ang pagkawala ni Maizo sa line up ng USTE and coach August failed to develop another good rooster to his team.

Of course naman, baka pwede pa akong makipag-try out
Maganda un na idea parang PBL, pero sa tingin ko mukhang malabong mai-materialize.

Sana palitan na si Coach August as Caoch ng National Team. Mas maganda ang future ng National team volleyball ang daming incoming good players.

Nasa proper training yan idagdag mo pa ang skills nila may pag-asa. Pero nakikita ko lang na kulang talaga sa athletes natin is height. Isang malaking factor ang height lalo na sa volleyball.
Cindy Velasquez kelangan pa siyang itrain ng husto kasi daig pa siya ni shaira gonzales sa skills matangkad nga si cindy.
