Thai Imports add spice anew in post-preliminaries round

Kesinee vs. Bualee

Quarter Finals is fast approaching and other teams who did not make it to the semis right away have one more week to change their guest players, if ever they really want to boost their campaign in this conference’s edition of the Shakey’s V-League. The tentative start of the Quarter Finals is next week, May 4, which might feature an Ateneo vs La Salle opening. La Salle, meaning the University of Saint La Salle Lady Stingers who will be coming from Visayas together with University of San Jose - Recoletos Lady Jaguars.

Jaroensri Bualee, a name familiar to almost all Shakey’s V-League Fanatics, will come back again to play for San Sebastian College - Recoletos Lady Stags. The Season 4, Conference 1 MVP is fresh from a tournament in Vietnam as Guest Player. It is no question that she will once again play as Open Spiker for the Recto-based team and will add more power to the already-powerful San Sebastian spikers. Current Guest Player, Suzanne Roces has RP Team commitment and has expressed that it is fine to give way her post as guest player as long as the team will benefit from it. Phee Jang Bualee will have Luann Latigay, Cheng Ancheta, Sasa Devanadera and Jinni Mondejar as support in terms of power and scoring.

Lithawat Kesinee meanwhile, while taking a summer break from her masters in Rattana Bundit University, has expressed to help the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles once more in getting the first-ever V-League crown. It is no question too that Phee Nok Kesinee will play Middle as that is one of the position that Ateneo really needs in their quest for the title, a legit middle blocker. The Season 4, Conference 2 MVP is known for her blocking prowess and running attacks. Jindarat Kanchana, their preliminaries guest player, went home to Thailand for personal reasons. Along with Phee Nok Kesinee, expect strong support from league leading MVP candidate Charo Soriano, Karla Bello, Kara Acevedo and Patti Taganas.

The Quarter Finals will follow the same format as the preliminaries however instead of a two round robin format, the Quarters will only have one round robin which makes the games more “important” and “do-or-die”. Expect the six teams namely Ateneo de Manila, Lyceum, Far Eastern, Benilde, La Salle and San Jose to really give out their best and to give us exciting games as four teams will be eliminated after the Quarter Finals round. The top two will of course, move on to the Semi Finals. However, if a team wins three out of five games but the team is not in the top two, they will have the right to challenge the second seed after the Quarter Finals round. Psychological advantage is with the top two teams of the Quarter Finals since momentum will be with them and the outright Semi Finalists Adamson and San Sebastian will take a two-week break.

Surely, guest players will again play a big role for their respective teams as we have seen in previous V-League conferences. These hard-hitting guest players like Bualee and Kesinee will certainly add firepower and a lot more. But winning games in the V-League will still depend on how effective all the players help one another inside the court. Besides, volleyball is really all about team work. Here’s a comparison kuya Spikey made between Jaroensri Bualee and Lithawat Kesinee last year.

Parang ngayon nga lang mag-uumpisa ang tunay na labanan…ang boring kasi nung BASTE at ADU lang ang powerhouse teams sa ngayon…I’m excited to watch Kesinee play again for Ateneo and Bualee for Baste…and for the two teams from the Visayas.

i think kaya me mga thai imports because they increase the intensity/level of the game. pansinin mo if nandyan sila (i mean yung thai imports) yung game level ng mga local players is gumaganda din. kasi our local players are challenge to meet the game level of the imports.

We need them cause the level of play in our country will just be the same or paikot ikot lang if we don’t learn a new thing. Thailand has adopted the Chinese way of playing the same as the other other countries like Vietnam. It’s time that we, Philippines, adopt the other countries’ skills as well so we will not be left behind.

What the Philippines does kasi is the usual side out volleyball. Slow paced but hard offense game which is not the fad anymore in World Volleyball. In World Volleyball, quick paced games are seen often even with tall teams like Brazil, China, Russia. With slow paced games, slower defense and slower offense which makes it unpredictable.

we really need the reinforcement of imports…

i guess that’s the one of the ways to improve our plays. hindi rin naman tayo ganun ka-exposed sa international arena, kaya having geepees from other countries will give us an idea on how volleyball is played internationally…

minsan nga naiisip ko, pwede siguro tayong magkaroon ng geepees from china, korea, thailand, kazakhstan, japan all at the same time.. hehe why not db? :)

sana meron na ding league ang men’s…

Wala pang concrete plans. Everything is just on the drawing board. People from the 3 groups involved need to discuss muna. We already met Shelly and the DOTtk people. So next thing to do is try to get in touch with the rpspikers people. Baka may kilala ka Eric, please help!

i agree that thai imports add intensity and challenge into the players’ games not to mention that a lot of people are actually looking forward to see them play live.

if teams would prefer thai imports, i think that does not mean that they don’t give much confidence to filipino players. it even raises the level of volleyball in the country. most of you people would also probably agree that a lot of players have matured in their games and improved compared to the past seasons.

step by step, i hope we could see that filipino players can actually match or probably be at par with the world’s best through the injection of foreign imports. i just wish that this will happen in the near future.
