Top 10 teenage volleyball talents
- 5. Angela Benting
Seamlessly asserting herself on offense better and better each game, it will be interesting to see how she copes with a heavier scoring load since Jackie So recently went down with an ACL injury. - 4. Mary Jane Pepito
Helping San Sebastian College win multiple NCAA championships and numerous V-League finals appearances, Mary Jane’s defensive skills are the perfect compliment to their versatile offense attacks. - 3. Kara Acevedo
The reigning UAAP Rookie of the Year, the leadership role will be overturned to her in only her second year as Ateneo looks to recruit young talents and is poised for a strong season 71 campaign. - 2. Angeli Tabaquero
Nagging injuries and all, Tabaquero is a vital cog to the UST machine. Her charisma and talent blend nicely with the experienced UST players, and she already has UAAP and V-League championships under her belt. - 1. Maica Irish May Morada
After helping FEU win the championship, she was thrusted in the unfamiliar territory of team captain of an extremely depleted lineup for this tournament. From championship antagonist to team leader, she is showcasing her all around talent by helping keep FEU competitive this go round. - BONUS: Patty Orendain
Not much is known about her yet. But once she suits up for St. La Salle-Bacolod, she will be the youngest V-League player ever at just 15 years of age.

sa ateneo sina karla, patti, charo, bianca (sison), si steph gab, trish (limgenco)
sa uste, malamang ako at si ate ging
sa dlsu ang alam ko si carla lang mawawala eh, pero mei mga hearsays na pati si mitchiepaw at jacq aalis na rin…pero babalik sa line-up si chie, illa at si charleen (cruz)…kasabayan namin sila eh nag-leave sila eh…ng isang taon eh! so ngeon nila ito ga2mitin!
sa adu si Jacquie lang at si Keng (serafica) …sayang na-ACL pa si Jacquie…
sa benilde, last playing year na ni Doreen Sanchez at ni Anna Maranan ang NCAA na ito… so mei isang taon pa sila…sana ma-televised din sila…sayang kasi eh ung mga volleybelles sa NCAA eh…

I watch UST’s practices and I could tell you, watch out for Rhea. I think UST will join the Inter-collegiate on May 17 at Antipolo. Miss them… the V-league is not the same without UST!

rhea’s unassuming kasi kaya she doesn’t stand out masyado pero if one watches her closely eh makikita na napakagaling nya.she was given quality minutes nung vleague kahit crucial parts ng game and she delivered.pati nung uaap she had a lot of exposure din.major playing time

UST’s Coach August did coach for DLSU before, if my memory serves me right!
What do you think of an Exhibition DUAL game between SSC/Ateneo vs. UST/DLSU? If this game will push thru, who will be your starting 6 for both teams? My choice…

This is a dream match-up (that will most likely NOT happen). Going with your line-up, the UST/DLSU dream team will surely win in my opinion. And that’s because of the Balse – Bernal tandem
ssc/admu lineup,lets remove mondejar and place pepito spiker for combinations and acevedo for paje becuase paje is more deceiving a spiker than acevedo is.with devanadera’s quick latigay’s massive spike,combinations plus luck,i think coach gorayeb team will win,heheehhe

9. cara acevedo- ROY sa uaap season 70.. as i observed her games, mahihirapan talaga mag adjust ang mga blockers ng mga kalaban kasi lefty siya at malakas yung mga spikes niya
8. doreen sanchez – she has the potential in blocking. as i’ve observed in her games, she can block the spikes of mhica morada, charo soriano and other attackers..
7. katty kwan – i love the way she spikes the ball.. lalo na kapag off the block..
6. angela benting – mas lalong lumalakas yung mga spikes niya..
5. shaira gonzalez – aside from mhica morada, eto pa ang isang magaling na attacker ng feu..
4. lizlee gata – for me, she’s the best libero!!

good choices from you guys! here’s mine:
in my opinion,
#10 KATHY KWAN
while csb remains to be winless at the bottom of the standings, their team has a lot of raw talents waiting to be ripen. take the young kathy kwan as an example. i like how she hits the ball and her attitude inside the court. i haven’t seen her brag whenever she scores a point, which is a positive character, i guess. she should focus on her reception to help her improve more.
#9 MARIGAIL TOLENTINO & CHERRY MAE VIVAS
marigail tolentino is among the hard hitters in the league right now. you should see her play live and hit the ball as if it’ll be her last attack, hehe! she also serves well and has good blocking coverage. but she needs to improve her reception as most attackers target her spot.
another talented open-spiker is the tall cherry mae vivas. this ‘daquis-like’ hitter has almost the same approach with teammate rachelle daquis. she has good blocking and can receive too. if coach nes could train and give her more exposure, i’m sure that she’ll develop further.
#8 SHAIRA GONZALES & CARMINA ACEVEDO
with the absence of the front liners of powerhouse feu, their rookies come to play and take the place of their senior teammates. i like shaira gonzalez because of her tricky attacks and attitude inside the court. she’s just quiet and somewhat peaceful. her beach volleyball training could also give her an extra advantage over her defenders. i just hope that she could improve her reception and variate her attacks more.
if tabaquero will spearhead the attack for ust, reigning roy carmina denise acevedo will be in command next season for the lady eagles. acevedo is not a power hitter but her shot placements prove to be effective. being a leftee, blockers find it a bit difficult to adjust and read her attacks. reception and focus should be developed though, as she numerously hits the ball straight into the net.
#7 JOANA MARIE DELA PEÑA & RHEA DIMACULANGAN
dela peña topped the first round of action with the most number of excellent digs brought about by her good coverage and ball anticipation. she may be one of the most underrated liberos in the league but her stats prove her to be one of the best. with her around, boto and cruz can guard the net as she takes charge of the floor.
rhea dimaculangan is a smart setter. overshadowed by the fame of denise tan, people barely noticed her not until she showed her setting skills. rhea is an excellent setter of quick attacks especially when she feeds the ball to balse for a combination play alongside tabaquero and bernal.
#6 ROSE ANN TAGANAS
rose ann taganas is probably the most comical among the liberos in the league right now. her joyful actions treat the crowd to a series of attack exchanges every time feu plays brought about by her superb floor defense. her digs helped the lady tamaraws big time in their season 70 campaign in the uaap. taganas though, has to mature more to make her even better.
#5 ANGELA BENTING
angela benting has also improved tremendously for adamson. her powerful attacks give numerous points for her team and a lot of trouble for the blockers and liberos. benting though, is not the best receiver in their squad, which is known to have a solid floor defense. she is also bound to commit series of errors when she loses her focus and confidence. if she could improve her reception and capitalize on her attacks, she could be a major threat to the other teams.
#4 LIZLEE ANN GATA
lizlee ann gata is a superb defender. she’s able to read the opponents’ attacks, set-up good floor defense, and feed excellent receptions to serafica. she’s also pretty tall compared to the other liberos.
#3 MARY JANE PEPITO
mary jane pepito is an excellent libero as well. ssc-r can always count on her to contribute in defense. though the lady stags are all good defenders *in my opinion*, m.j. pepito would always find a way to flaunt her digs and strut her stuffs.
#2 MARIA ANGELI TABAQUERO
angeli tabaquero will be the primary attacker of ust come season 71 of the uaap. she has good leaping ability and superb attacks. she’s also very charming and playful in spite of coach august’s temper in the court. tabaquero has improved a lot alongside bernal and balse, which helped ust clinch the v-league last season and uaap in season 69.

mecaila morada is a major trash talker but i find her funny especially when she says something against the other teams to intimidate their plays. as the replacement captain of feu, she encourages her teammates to enjoy the games and be aggressive. morada’s quick plays and running attacks always generate points for the lady tams. for me, she’s good. though she should variate her plays more often than not especially now that her blockers are starting to read her attacks.

10. BERNADETTE SATSATIN (LPU) – double threat…setter na, spiker pa…Lyceum has a great future with this girl alongside with Syvie Artates and Jamie Peña. With her height advantage she can block hard spikes and she can drill balls through her blockers
9. MARGARITA PEPITO (SSC-R) – her first appearance in the V-League was in 2003 or 2002 where she was the Libero and she was awarded as Best Receiver. Not only can she dig balls, but she can also spike anywhere, everywhere.The future of San Sebastian is in her spike.
8. STEPHANIE MERCADO (DLSU) – tracing her roots, she is following the athletic footsteps of her Mother. A high leaper for La Salle. She can slam balls through big blockers. She has a good reception and she can also block good balls. A smart player for La Salle’s future.
7. BANGLADESH PANTALEON (CSJL) – she is the next MICHELLE CAROLINO for Letran. She is a high leaper with powerful spikes. She can spike balls through the blockers and she can close doors when she blocks. She is also blessed with good reception but not with height.
6. CINDY VELASQUEZ (CSB) – she is the upcoming future of CSB alongside Girlie Quemada and Kathy Kwan. Blessed with height and powerful spikes, she can connect with Anna Maranan in terms of quick plays. She can block good balls as well. But she isn’t good in digging low balls.
5. CARMINA ACEVEDO (ADMU) – the leftee with great dreams. A very decieving player with powerful spikes. Reigning UAAP ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, this girl will be the next Charo Soriano for Ateneo. She plays like a veteran when she is in the court.
4. MICHELLE SEGODINE (ADU) – we have seen this girl progress through the years…and here she is now…the starting six for Adamson. A very colorful leftee player she is, her spike is very powerful, open or quick. Her blocks are a solid net defense and Adamson is in her hands.
3. MACAILA MORADA (FEU) – leading the depleted FEU squad as the team captain, she can spike the ball anywhere and everywhere in the court and she is only a 2nd year student. A major trashtalker she is, but she is a very friendly player. She can also dig balls anywhere and everywhere.
2. MA. ANGELI TABAQUERO (UST) – this girl will be the next “ME”, “Mary Jean Balse” or maybe “Roxanne Pimentel” combined. A definite scoring machine for my UST. A very powerful spiker and she can give solid blocks. She plays like a veteran and she knows how to play the game.
1. PATTY JANE ORENDAIN (USLS) – a 15 year old player for USLS who plays like a veteran. We can compare her muscular body to Mikmik Laborte. A very powerful spiker she is and also a good blocker. She is the future for USLS and also the provincial teams who aspire to be famous.

Benting… listen to the sound whenever she hits a mikasa.
I really like her approach whenever she spikes.
Gata… does her job as a libero very well.
Keeps her eyes on the ball, and she’s very quick to react!
Segodine… my favorite player OUTSIDE the court.
A thrashtalker, but she can really deliver points for AdU.

I agree with you on that. We have good pinoy volleybelles and we don’t need Thai imports. Suggestion ko nga magkaron ng ALL-STAR games, 2 all-star Pinoy Teams and one team composed of all the Thai Imports (Kesinee, Baulee, Jindarat, Areerat, etc.)I bet even the team na lang ng UST can beat the All Thai Import team, di ba Ms Bernal?

ang tanging kulang sa phil. womens vollweyball team ay suporta…sa ibang bansa if youre part of the national team you dont have to find and go to work everyday because all you have to do is to practice and develop your skills… dito kasi hirap ang mga athletes natin, naghahanap ng trabaho kasi walang compensation kaya they only practice pag may parating na laro…
