Velocity and power. Nope, this is not about cars nor engines. This is all about an offensive move that requires agility and muscle on the sport that we all love- the QUICK ATTACK. More often than not, a quick attack is done to agitate the opponents’ blocking using low sets, intricate angles, and powerful snap of the wrist. And this is the proficiency where Sasa Devanadera of San Sebastian College and Sang Laguilles of Adamson University reign supreme.
Sasa Devanadera
Wearing Jersey#1 for the Lady Stags, Sasa is currently the top 12 scoring player on the first round phase of the league’s elimination, with 78.95% of her points came from attacks which made her the no.4 attacker at a success rate of 42.45%, most of it from her quick hits. This young lady is a very effective player on this aspect of volleyball. She uses her height and vertical leap to deliver points for her game. Her wrist movement is also an essential factor on why she is a very efficient quicker. But she’s not just a quicker, we saw her doing a running hit once during their first game against Benilde, and we were in awe. She is also the no.5 player when it comes to the blocking department, averaging 0.58 block per set.
Sang Laguilles
One of the frontrunners of the Adamson Lady Falcons, Sang Laguilles is supreme when it comes to attacking. Though maybe her attacks are usually seen as a “drop shot”, she uses the principles and approach of a quick hit in order to deliver points for her team, most of the time utilizing the combination of her arm swing and wrist snap. She is currently the no. 7 scorer of the league with 85.10% of her scores coming from her attacks with 40% success rate. That made her the sixth best attacker of the league at this point. Despite the fact that she is a little bit short compared to other players who do this kind of offense, Laguilles showed us that she can be at par with these tall players. One can truly say that the sweetness of her smile is just as deadly as her attacks. An all around player that she is, Sang is currently on the ninth spot when it comes to blocking, and number 4 on digging (she is at the top with the best liberos of the league!).
Their names spell speed. They’ll hit you in a blink. Sang and Sasa, the best quickers of the league.

yeah… i agree… but i think, sasa is better than sang… sasa’s hit are more with statement compared to laguilles. mas maganda ung mga replay ng mga plays ni sasa but i think adamson will win the crown this season. Bautista is so good!

The Lady Falcons reminds me of the all Filipina UST team last season who
bagged the title. I’m sure that they will be in the finals together with SSC.

kung starting six paguusapan number 1 attacker of the league si
Sasa Devanadera, wow if she could win this, great achievement for her because if my memory serves me right,Baulee is the reigning best attacker..

Mas versatile si Sang. She can earn points from attacks, blocks, and even serves. Plus, she’s reliable in floor defense. Ayun. Pero kung quick hits? Duh, Sasa practically created that attack. Hahaha.

agree with rieze, although i don’t seem to agree with the tone here that generally spikes are better than drops.
they could well be equally good weapons. yun nga lang, attacks are good for tv and for the fans, but drops are effective in getting the points and are bad for the opposing players. i think mas madaling makarattle and makademoralize once an opposing team or player are dropping balls right in your middle, and you can’t seem to do anything about it. yun ang advantage ni laguilles, she knows when to attack and when to just tap the ball. and she could set, dig and block too. except for the occassional service errors, she has minimal lapses in court also. yun din lang, kaya di kasing-sikat ng ibang teams and AdU… di kasing spectacular ng mga booming hits ang well-timed and well-placed dumps.
i’ll reserve my comments for sasa much much later. very few times ko pa lang kasi siya napanood.

I didn’t mean to imply that spikes are better than drops. FEU won the finals with a combination of drop shots and offspeed shots. Ang topic kasi here is “quick hits”. And I’m not THAT shallow of a fan.
Pero not as much as an in-your-face, block-disintegrating spike. Which takes a lot more skill. Hahaha.
Kuya Badz!
ang perception ko kasi sa quick hit is more on the approach, kasi kung ball speed lang ang basis natin, mas mabilis ang dating ng bola kapag open kasi concentrated ang force na ibibigay sa bola. i categorized sang as a quicker because of the sets given ti her by janet. low set lagi at quick hit approach…

parehong noted sina sasa at sang pagdating sa quick attacks…kumbaga they both deliver the goods para sa team nila…

sang is a far better quick hitter than sasa. si sasa isang quick play lang ang alam where as laguilles halos lahat ng klase nagagawa nya. mas naaala lang ng mga tao ang mga drop shots nya because they are done neatly and as devastating as her power hits. but i could not discount her power hits dahil dami naring nafacial dahil don. malakas, well- placed at mabilis.though naiimpress din aku kay sasa kasi napaka unassuming ang dating nya yun pala napakalakas pumalo, pero kung dependability ang pag uusapan, i’d go for sang’s.

for me, may kanya-kanya silang style na pareho sila nag e-excel kaya bagay sa kanila yung article ^_^ or should i say na sila talaga yung “ladies of lightning” perfecto!!
kung ako naman ang pipili sa kanilang 2, titingnan ko lahat ng anggulo and meron akong sagot for that..i’ll go for MS. LAGUILLES wearing jersey #4 of ADU…coz hindi lang sya quick hitter/attacker kc all around din sya can dig, set, block at alam na alam nya kung san ipupwesto mga drop ball nya..ahhhh “very smart player” sabi nga ng mga commentators sa tv at proven naman, so… yup sya yung lamang for me.
