She’s not your typical teenage girl. Yes, girls her age do like volleyball, but not like the way this young lady views the sport. I personally believe that she has a genuine love and passion for the game of volleyball. She is very insightful whenever she posts an article or interview here at Spikeithard.com blog. And just recently she caught our attention by interviewing three male volleyball superstars we admire namely: the upcoming volleyball star Xavier Señoren, UAAP Best Blocker Chris Macasaet, and RP Team Member who won the UAAP Best Setter award Jessie Lopez.
Last week, I got to interview the lady behind these collection of volleyball articles and posts. Let’s get to know her:
Eric: It seems that you have a great passion for volleyball. Why is that?
Miles: I enjoyed watching the sport and I think it’s fun. Based on the sport I play (tennis), it’s somewhat the same only, in volleyball, we can see more kills, blocks and net or floor defense.
Eric: Do you play volleyball competitively?
Miles: I actually tried playing volleyball before. Haha. Yeah, competitively. I once joined a mini-league. But really, my goal is really to play professional tennis. That’s been my focus ever since I was a child.
Eric: We can see that you know a lot about volleyball despite your young age. Since when did you become hooked to volleyball?
Miles: It just started I think 5 years ago in the UAAP. Haha. We just went to UP-CHK that time because my dad will talk to UP’s Athletic Director then, Miss Gilda Uy. And then yun, I got hooked and started to look for schedules and stuff. Swerte pa cause La Salle won that year. First championship after 1999 daw yata yun.
Eric: All time favorite players? (Local and foreign. Male and female.)
Miles: Foreign Male - Alberto Cisolla of Italy and Giba of Brazil, Foreign Female - Cesca Piccinini of Italy and Rosir Calderon of Cuba, Local Male - Edjet Mabbayad of FEU and Janley Patrona of La Salle, Local Female - Monica Aleta of FEU and Desiree Hernandez of La Salle. If I remember it right, Monica Aleta was a monster in her four years. Haha. She’s the reason why La Salle won the championship in Finals Game 3 of UAAP Season 66. She was absent.
Eric: If you are to be a part of the national team, what position would you want to play? Setter, spiker, or libero? Why?
Miles: Hmm. What position? Hmm. Setter cause I am an aggressive person. I want to create plays and be the “decider” of the team.
Eric: What’s you favorite volleyball offense? Open, quick, running, backrow attack?
Miles: Haha. I love backrow attacks especially the ones from Bualee of San Sebastian and Charo Soriano of Ateneo.
Eric: Volleyball is stereotyped. It’s a sport for girls most people would say. What do you think?
Miles: I don’t think so. This is maybe because women’s volleyball is more popular. It is so because men’s volleyball is a fast scoring game. One blink can actually make you not see an incredible play. As long as the person loves the sport, he or she can play it naman eh.
Eric: What team has the most fashionable uniform in your opinion?
Miles: In the international scene, I love Brazil because they wear blue, yellow, and green. There’s some kind of variety, it’s very cool and relaxing to the eyes.
Eric: Let’s give you a dose of your own medicine, hehe. Do you have an inspiration or special someone you look up to right now?
Miles: Yeah. Family and friends.
Eric: (Showbiz answer! That’s not what we want to hear Miles.)

I will play Beach Volleyball this summer. Haha. Kaya lang I won’t tell you guys. I’m super bano in Beach volleyball because aside from wearing bikinis, haha, it’s on sand. Basta daming reasons. Oh well, my dad told me to play eh. So I have no choice.
