It wasn’t a good day for the Tamaraws. Both the women’s and men’s volleyball teams failed to win game no.1 in their respective championship series.
Women’s Volleyball Game 1 – Adamson defeated FEU in 5 sets: 23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 24-26, 15-7. Best Scorers were (#4) Rissa Jane Laguilles of Adamson with a total of 26 won points and (#9) Macaila Morada of FEU with 16 points. Game duration: 2hours 12mins.
In the first game, the FEU women’s volleyball team kept it close throughout the first 4 sets, but just ran out of gas in the 5th set, succumbing 15-7 in the last frame. Rissa Jane Laguilles stepped up big time with season 70’s third best scoring output with 26 points. Mica Morada paced FEU with 16 points. Player of the game honors went to Angela Benting, who contributed 17 points and a number of clutch plays during the last set.
FEU is now 0-4 against Adamson in UAAP Volleyball Season 70, and the Lady Falcons are sure to be very confident going into Wednesday’s game. Adamson’s stars brought their A-games for this one, with Benting, Cerafica and Segodine playing solid games in front of the hostile and about 70% FEU crowd. Adamson continued their machine-like efficiency on the defensive end against FEU, as the highly charged crowds did not seem to faze the Lady Falcons. On the flip side, the emotional FEU team (and fans) pushed Adamson hard, but could not sustain the same level of intensity up until the end.
FEU went all out with their supporters. Their men’s basketball team, which included the presence of Rachel Daquis’ well documented boyfriend, Marlon Adolfo came and watched the big game. Unfortunately for the FEU community it was not enough, as Adamson’s dominance over the Lady Tams continued on.
Men’s Volleyball Game 1 – UST defeated FEU in 4 sets: 25-19, 16-25, 29-27, 25-19. Best Scorers were (#9) Reno Roque of UST with a total of 13 won points and (#6) Edjet Mabbayad of FEU with a total of 23 points. Game duration: 1hour 49mins.
Afterwards, in the men’s abbreviated TV game, both UST and FEU fed off the still intense crowd to maintain the excitement for the second game. FEU played valiantly, but it was UST that came up on top, defeating FEU volleyball squad in four sets. As the men’s game isn’t usually played in filled arenas, both teams became highly emotional and there was a lot, and I do mean A LOT of trash talking between the two teams. UST’s libero, Charles Glendon Reyes, even got a yellow card for excessive taunting.

Game 1 of the finals was not meant for FEU, because both the men’s and women’s team lost. It was a double black eye for the morayta-based spikers. However, it was an exciting and thrilling game in both ends.
The lady tamarraws were just tight and stiff in their game, you can see in their faces that nerves and pressure were on their shoulders. ADU were relaxed playing their best game. The perimeter defense of ADU saved the day for them, because they frustrated all the attacks of FEU especially in the 5th, where they buried them by allowing only to score 7 points after finishing close in the previous sets. Only one thing was lacking in FEU in the 5th set, is their HEART AND DESIRE to win the match. Just like I said before, MENTAL TOUGHNESS will be a deciding factor who wants to win the championship than the other.
Before the game started, I had a brief chat with Coach Ness. He was confident that they will play better, since they practiced and studied the drop and fast plays of ADU, which he made adjustments in their defense as well their offense. After the match, I approached and asked him what went wrong; he just pointed his finger over his heart across his chest with his head shaking in disbelief. I saw his disappointment with the outcome of his team’s performance.
My prayer for FEU, is to stay focus in their game plan this coming game 2. They have to show their desire to win this championship by taking it one game at a time. They had been beaten 4 times in a row by ADU. I hope they will not close this season winless against them.
To ADU: Congratulations for winning game 1 of this finals. You really played your best game. You are a step a head in capturing your first ever title in UAAP. Good luck! You had proven your detractors that you deserve to be the team-to-beat. CHEERS!!!!!
To both teams: thank you for the exciting and thrilling game. You deserve to be in the finals more than anyone else.

Moral lesson to FEU’s men’s team, women’s team and so-called boosters na nagche-cheer lang pag lamang o panalo na ang team nila:
Huwag masyadong mayabang at maangas on and off the court. Sana maging humble naman kayo sa laro. Bawasan ang trash-talking sa opposition para at least makuha ninyo sympathy ng ibang teams at fans. Sa lahat ng volleyball forums na pinasok ko, madami talagang nayayabangan sa FEU. Well, kitang-kita naman ang evidence eh. Live na live sa venue at television ang angas ng Morayta-based spikers at even fans.

kahit maka-FEU ako sa game na to, nainis ako nung si cafranca ang nagtrashtalk. nung si Segodine nagtrashtalk nakakatawa eh. iba talaga yung mukha ni cafranca saka ni taganas pag nagtrashtalk, nakakabwisit. LOLZ! pero i saw cafranca after the game, maganda pala sya pag nakaayos ang buhok at nde pawis. hahaha.
So UST won game 1 of men’s division. Buti na lang nde ko pinanood kasi feeling ko natatalo yung team na kinakampihan ko pag nanonood ako. hahaha. lahat ng games ng USTWVT na talo sila napanood ko. wala akong napanood ni isa man lang na nanalo sila. Tapos ngayon sa FEU ako kampi natalo sila ng ADU. ano ba yun.

Just hope that the UST men’s team display the same intensity in Game 2. FEU will try to bounce back, but I’m hoping that UST upsets them again and win the crown.

UST won in the game because of their superb blocking. Plus they have a height advantage.
AdU won in the game because FEU’s defense was subpar compared to theirs. Also, walang masyadong naeexert na energy ang quick hits at drop balls so they were able to outlast the Tams.

it was a good game..and I’m glad that AdU won. UST didn’t make it to the finals, so now, i prefer AdU to have the crown than those Morayta-based spikers. AdU deserves the crown more than they do.
ok lang naman na mag-asaran kasi part yan ng game, pero ang magtrashtalk sa harap ng buong Pilipinas ay kawalan na ata ng kagandahan ng ugali. Ganun ba itinuturo sa kanila? they are athletes, they should know how to act properly especially when they are on TV. nakakahiya kasi eh. sila lang naman ata ang ganun eh, both their men and women volleyball teams. saksakan sila ng yabang at kabastusan. lalo na si TAGANAS yong libero nila, naku sobrang yabang talaga, pati sina MORADA AT CAFRANCA. Si DAQUIS naman, maganda na sana eh, mayabang nga lang..di ba ang pangit,imbes na hahangaan ka na ng mga tao, mawawala yong paghanga na yon dahil sa kagaspangan ng ugali mo.
they should learn to be humble sometimes para naman di magalit mga fans ng volleyball sa kanila. sinisira nila ang volleyball dahil sa kagaspangan ng ugali nila eh. they are a strong team,no doubt about that, and i admire their strength and skill when it comes to volleyball knowing that most of them are still rookies. BUT THEY TURN ME OFF BECAUSE OF THEIR ATTITUDE.

uhhm anu kinalaman ng simbahan at location sa Attitude? generalization ba yan… FYI my simbahan po sa loob ng campus…sa laki ng population sa FEU i dont think so na pare-pareho sila ng Attitude, my korean invasion na nga dun eh…at hindi lang ang FEU boosters ang ganun… my mga team na ganun din ang attitude pagdating sa game, cympre nadadala sila sa intensity ng game…
sa Mens naman, over talaga ang trash talking at nabigyan pa ng yellow card ang UST, so ang galing pala nila pagdating dun…

Sobrang ganda ng game kahapon!!! Sana lang wag nating bigyan ng emphasis yung mga trash talk kasi its part of the game yon po kasi tinatawag nating INTIMIDATION… all of us needed it boost our confidence…the thing is after the game they gave respect to each other… I congrats Adamson they really good especially Rissa Laguilles, she is focused on the game. Have you been to FEU for you to actually say those things? There are a lot of schools in ubelt area so i don’t know now what’s your intention of saying such. I hope you can first scrutinize and look at your own backyard before commenting or bad mouthing your neighbor’s.
Oh yeah, you seemed misinformed so let me just say that FEU does have a church inside the campus. Maybe as big as what your school has. Complete with liturgical staff and service. Amen. (HAHAHA)
Anyway I’m not here to brag what FEU has or defend what they don’t have. AND, I’m not defending the attitude of some FEU fans. Nakakaloko lang ang comment ng iba dito pati simbahan sinasama.

honga.. grabe naman, I’m a UST fan. pero ngayong finals, since wala sila, sa FEU ako. Naiinis din ako kay cafranca pero it doesn’t mean naman na masasama ang ugali nila. marami rin naman players ang ganyan. kahit siguro kayo ganyan din kayo minsan pag nacacarried away. wag tayo mag-over react, normal na tao lang sila at hindi sila perfect. With regards to schools, let’s not go there, kasi kung laitan lang ng school baka mas marami pa mailait sa school nyo.
saka solid FEU, walang kinalaman ang UST dito. nung matanggal ang UST sa finals nahati kami. may mga for ADU, may mga for FEU na tulad ko. kung naiinis man sila, naiinis sila dahil sa pinakita ng mga players, nde dahil sa natalo ang team nila. nde lang naman UST fans ang nainis ah.

When FEU lost to Adamson I can’t help but smile and think “buti nga”. I know it sounds cruel but I still can’t help it. I acknowledge FEU to be a great team but so far their arrogance far surpasses their talent. When I first started watching volleyball on TV (that was last year, season 69), I actually rooted for FEU during the start of the first round but then I got turned off by Daquis and Morada. Daquis, beautiful as she is, needs to tone down her overconfidence. Morada needs to do the same too. But you know I shook it off, thinking it was part of the game etc etc. Fast forward to season 70, they just got more arrogant. I noticed that only during matches where FEU played was there excessive trash talking. UST doesn’t trash talk, at least not that is obvious on TV when playing against other teams. Even when FEU is trashing them on court, they remain calm, although Tabaquero does unleash her “What’s up bitch?” look at times, but that’s it. I don’t see them talking to the other team. FEU meanwhile is the exact opposite, especially when Morada, Daquis and Cafranca are on the front line. I suspect trash talking is part of their training to intimidate the opponent but it is so declasse. It also brings out the worst in opponents. Whenever I watch Adamson play, they seem like bundles of happy energy but when they played against FEU last Sunday, even they were dragged into the taunt-fest. I always laugh when my favorite setter Serafica raises her hands and looks at the other team whenever Adamson scores a point, it’s her own version of “what’s up bitch?” pose. Segodine does this taunting but cute dance around the court. Cafranca on the other hand gave a childish “be buti nga” smirk which was not cute at all. Morada seemed subdued last Sunday but once in a while she gives that smug smirk of hers. Daquis.. well, sometimes she gives off this “I don’t care if you blocked me, mas maganda pa rin ako sayo” look. Hahaha. In fairness to FEU, I can only have admiration for Semana, Abanto and Gonzalez. They are always level-headed. Oh I don’t want to forget FEU’s pet Taganas, her “puto” smirk is so infuriating. Does she come with her own pokemon ball?
Personal feelings aside, both FEU and Adamson are great teams I hope they give their best on Wednesday.

i was really sad and disappointed last sunday because both FEU’s WVT and MVT were lost their respective games to AdU and UST! i saw the frustrations on the face of my favorite players such as wendyanne, morada, papa jessie and papa edjet! grabe, sobrang nanghinayang talaga ako sa mga efforts na binigay nila during the game,kasi hindi parin enough para manalo sila… i am really hoping na makakabawi sila bukas para naman magkaroon sila ng chance for the championship crown! pero kahit na matalo sila, ay all-out parin ang support ko sa kanila!

I can’t agree more with Adu_comsci_programmer! he/she made an interesting point about school location (see comment feb 25th). i was at the venue to CHEER for ADAMSON and i was appalled by the feu crowd. i think of all uaap crowds, feu fans are SO rowdy and it never fails, you will ALWAYS see fans dancing like vendors, street children and people from the marketplace when they celebrate something “fantastic” about what their players have done!! is this a reflection of where feu is located being so near the very congested, crowded, smog area of quiapo/recto?? sometimes when you say feu, i think about quiapo, recto and isetann, how about that??? i’m not being biased but i even asked my parents if they watched the game too and they did, but caught only a glimpse of it. they said that some feu audiences were frenzied over points scored by their team whereas when adamson scores, the adamson fans seem so COOL AND WELL-BEHAVED — they do cheer but WITH CONTROL and GRACE. i’m SO PROUD of my school! ADAMSONIANS are quiet but very talented.
i was also dismayed with the facial expressions and reactions of some feu players. i hope it’s not because they lack proper breeding. who would dare to show on national tv facial expressionS and body language like that not unless you have a poor background to match and a thick face (if you’re not pretty, why make yourself uglier with those scowls and faces?)?? we all know who these feu players are and they just drag their school further into disgrace. is this the character you want the uaap viewers want to see??? because feu players are so notorious for such expressions it’s no wonder why the ADAMSON LADY SPIKERS have prettier aura and CLASSY image than their opponents (include the uniform too)! daquis is the ONLY player with a face to show but even so, she has a BAD ATTITUDE…NOT SO PRETTY, RIGHT?? and what are they so proud of anyway? feu is not even in the TOP 4 UNIVERSITIES in the land! well, adamson may not be in the top 4 but ask around and look at classified ads, and you will see ADAMSON included in the PREFERRED/PRIORITY list of applicants both here and abroad!!! i’m really sorry to all feu fans but you have to conduct yourselves PROPERLY if you want people to RESPECT you! why don’t you watch yourselves or even ask students FROM OTHER SCHOOLS who watch uaap games and ask how they perceive your crowd??? you make it look like your school is SO STARVED for RECOGNITION!! i feel really sorry for the feu fans! i’m sure not all feu students are like that but with just the display of some people from your school and given what our impressions are about your school, it just CEMENTS what we have ALWAYS thought about feu. what a shame!! this brings me make a comment about some feu fans….i was on the ADAMSON gallery during the game and i could see feu fans making insulting gestures to the ADAMSON cheerers. they would even copy some of the cheering gestures of ADAMSON. what are you trying to do? mock our school? it just shows how threatened they feel about ADAMSON. my friends and i took video shots of it and we might even put it on youtube.com and then tell me if it’s exaggerated!

when i think of adamson, err.. i can’t think of anything.
well admsnchronicler, FEU has won 25 women’s volleyball championship (48 including men’s, boys’ and girls’). I don’t think they are “starving” for the crown. On the other hand ADU has won nothing.. at all. if FEU loses, it’s ok, lamang pa rin sila ng 24 championships. They are that DISCIPLINED to have won that many titles. TRASHTALKING is part of the game, nde ibig sabihin nun eh masama na ugali nila.
One last thing, I must admit that the ADU women’s volleyball team is really good, but that’s just it. Don’t make it sound like your school is much better than any other school in all aspects. It’s just not right. you haven’t even won UAAP general championships(all schools except ADU and DLSU already won and FEU got 16). So even if you win the women’s volleyball title this season, guess what? no one cares!

1st of all i am from UST. I never said i was from FEU. there. you just showed us all how “ignorant” you can be. talk about “poor comprehension”.
2nd, i really do not know where adamson is located. but that doesn’t make me stupid, does it?
3rd, i really don’t know anyone from Adu, even my friends doesn’t have friends from Adamson. that’s probably why I don’t know much about your school.
4th, i have friends from FEU and I don’t think it’s right to say mean things to them. It’s not right to insult the whole community just because you’re mad at one specific group coming from that community.

It took me a lot of time to write this one. I have written four comments perhaps before I decided to go for this one.
Volleyball here in the Phils. grows interesting and bigger, not just in terms of media mileage but increasing fanbase as well..
However, we pull the very same sport we like DOWN. With the attitude that most of us are showing, I won’t be surprised if more people will be disappointed instead of encouraged to support the game.
Yes, trashtalking and bashing is inevitable…but perhaps we can keep it to a minimum. No personal attacks please….
Each day makes my interest for reading comments here DECREASE…
I love spikeithard and the rest of the bloggers and what they have GREATLY CONTRIBUTED to the sport, but as they exert positive effort…most of us offset it with the negative ones.
If you have nothing good to say…keep it to yourself guys…if you have something good to say…then by all means, spread it…

Couldn’t agree more.
Personal attacks such as CREED, BREEDING and UPBRINGING and even school location are irrelevant. Let’s enjoy the sport. Let’s join hands to set it to higher level. It should bring camaraderie and not division to each and every one of us.
We all love our school and of course our respective teams.

Have you ever played an inter-school volleyball? That is what you call psy-war. For the players to gain confidence and to show their dominance.And to be fair I also see Balse do that a couple of times…not to mention segodine,tabaquero almost all volleyball players out there…

2nd, i really do not know where adamson is located. but that doesn’t make me stupid, does it?
3rd, i really don’t know anyone from Adu, even my friends doesn’t have friends from Adamson. that’s probably why I don’t know much about your school.
4th, i have friends from FEU and I don’t think it’s right to say mean things to them. It’s not right to insult the whole community just because you’re mad at one specific group coming from that community.

6th, about the “starved†thing, of course i am pertaining to the championship titles and the game of volleyball since these are what we are supposed to argue about. You keep on insisting about school reputation etc. This is about the game. thank you swordtiker (nakahanap narin ako ng kakampi hehehehe)… i also thought of that…its really unfair… DUMBGENIUS is really unfair, imagine FEU’s win is VOLLEYBALL’s loss and USTs loss is VOLLEYBALL’s gain,what is he thinking? for the record,UST won the title only last season 69 for women’s and season 66 for men’s, only two championship for both since 2001 while FEU has 7 already, 3 for women’s and 4 for men’s since 2001, FEU has the longest appearances in the finals for 15 consecutive seasons, try to look at UAAP history, baka mahiya ka sa mga sinasabi mo… FEU has already 48 championship all in all, 25 for womens and 23 for mens while UST has only 16, 9 for womens and 7 for mens, since 1978 until this very moment hindi nawawala sa top 4 ang feu for both department, pag nakita mo ang history ng uaap baka mahihiya ka pati sa sarili mo… actually mas marami pa ngang championship title ang up at ue sa ust…before you speak try to think over and over if you can justify what you are about to say or write ok???
Nga pala FEU is about to add that number this season with two from both department…
i wrote this in a hope to let everyone know that FEU is a powerhouse also, and it shows and proven.
