Wow, di ko ‘lam yun UNAWAKANAHIMO. May second round pa naman, madami pang opportunity to beat USTe.

Meanwhile, DLSU snatched the first set from UST, tapos in a very long extended match, UST bounced back at a score of 31-29. Then they powered through the third and fourth sets resulting in a win. Kinda disappointing, especially because DLSU had the groove early on in the match.

The UP-AdU game was kinda meh.. AdU destroyed the UP floor defense in three sets, though the first set was quite close, 25-23.

I just realized..If FEU wins against UST on Wednesday, then a 6-1 standing for AdU, UST and FEU is possible.

Problem kasi with UST ang bagal ng start nila. As what the commentators said parang Diesel ang UST, ang bagal ng start nila pero the longer the game gets the better they play. I think other teams should take advantage of this and Adamson is one of them.

FEU had it’s share of defeating UST, especially last season. Kala ko sweep na for UST both 1st and 2nd roundspero behold FEU defeated UST not once but twice: 1 on the 2nd round and the other during the play offs. Kaso nga lang UST overpowered them during the finals. Im pretty sure pinaghandaan ng FEU ang game nila against UST. Good Luck to both

nde ko po sinabi na contender and DLSU.. i was just trying to explain na nde porket natalo ng adu ang feu in 3 sets eh nde na pwedeng manalo ang feu against them.

as you can see, nahirapan ang adu sa dlsu and beat them in 5 sets samantalang 3 sets lang tinalo ng feu ang dlsu..

ganun lang po.. we can’t tell yet kasi nasa mood yan ng mga players, you can’t say din na matatalo ng adu ang ust dahil natalo na nila 3 or four times ang UST. UST beat them in like numerous times na. so it’s all possible..

stat-wise mas mataas ang adu pero realistically anyone can win. tingnan mo yung nangyari sa ssc at ust sa v-league. ssc lost to ust even if they have an almost perfect stats.

The UST Tigresses gained confidence in defeating ADMU with 3 sets to love. Their defense (blocks/digs) improved in this specific game after losing one to FEU. Sana they will keep the same game plan kapag nakalaban na nila ulit ang FEU.

Siyempre wala pa ring kupas ang mga middle hits ni Balse, open attacks nina Bernal at Tabaquero siyempre ang opposite attacker na si Torrijos. Let’s not forget the effort of the rookie setter Dimaculangan for being consistent in keeping good plays.

Siyempre sa aking labs na si Denise Tan. (uuuuyyyy!!!) Still in shock when I saw her spiked siguro mga twice. Wow! Mejo nangangapa pa siya because she replaced Mance in the middle blocker position. But she showed better performance compared to her first game as middle man with FEU. Minsan nga naaagaw pa niya yung sets kay Dimaculangan. We can’t blame her. Yung memory ng muscles nya probably nasa setter mode pa. Hopefully, Coach August will still give her time to be trained more in the offensive plays. I think she can contribute more as an attacker/blocker.

I have been a solid fan of UST Lady Tigers. There’s no shadow of a doubt that they are really an offensive team. Although, sometimes, nawawala or naa-out-of-focus sila when it comes to defense. If I were to compare it, in the international scene siguro Russian Team ang kanilang equivalent. Same problems. Yet super solid attacks.

When they think hindi na maganda ang dig minsan hindi na nila hinahabol ang bola. So unlike the Adamson Falcons. They are everywhere in the court. No doubt these two teams are going a head to head battle in the finals.

Ang FEU Lady Tamaraws on the other hand change their mode of playing tactics. Hindi pinalaro si Morada, Daquis was substituted in the middle of the game. At si Semana nilagay ulit sa setting position. First time ko rin nakita si Vivas sa starting line-up.

I think the coach of FEU will bring a different line-up kapag kalaban na ang UST. For them not to be easily read by the tigresses.(Scary!!!)

If UST focused more on offensive defense. Right now ang nakikitaan ko lang nito ay si Balse and Bernal. A little bit of Tabaquero and Torrijos on the side. Pero yung solid floor defense. Siguro kay Jean Balse yun. That is so unlikely because Jean is really big yet her digs were excellent.

May question lang ako sa lahat… Wala pa kasi akong nakikitang 6-2 na laro. Uhmmmm… All players are setters/attackers/blockers. Yung players na nasa backline are assigned as setters regardless of rotation. Which gives 3 attackers on the frontline. Later on, makes it difficult to defense. The only team I have seen that delivers this is Cuba Team. The rest puro 5-1. Russia, Brazil, Netherland. Sa atin kahit Baste, UST and La Salle. Always 5-1. Meaning, one setter all else are attackers. Just asking.

to Chivas Mendez: in the 6-2 set-up, not all the players are assigned as setters when they are at the backline..2 players are designated with the tasks of being an attacker when in the front line particularly the opposite position and as a setter when in the backline..so the two players switch roles when they rotate either to the front line or the back line area…and i agree with you..cuba is, i think, the only international team with this set-up as ramirez, their primary setter, can also attack when in the front line…so when she’s at the backline, she becomes the setter and if i’m not mistaken mesa becomes the attacker on the opposite position…in my opinion, the 6-2 set-up doesn’t necessarily apply on every team as each has its own unique set-up…however, it does have its advantages like what Chivas Mendez mentioned…

Coach Dulce Pante is one the league’s most admired coaches (as Sev Sarmienta have said). She has her ways lang tlaga of motivating her players. Sinasabi nga palagi ng mga commentators na she is what they call the “mother-coach” kasi parang ina tlaga kung pagsalitaan ang mga players nya.

If you can remember in the international circuit the during the Grand Prix fame here in the Philippines, the coach of Russia was without doubt the most harsh and fierce coach people have seen. The coach of brazil what also a bit hot-tempered though nothing can compare with the former. The coolest one was Calderon of Cuba.

Mendez: The best 6-2 line up I have ever seen was during the time of Torres, Aguero, Regla Bell, Fernandez, Yumilka Ruiz, another setter which I forgot the name with the legendary Mireya Luis (she known as the player whose every attack is a sure point) on the sides.

Aguero (who was one of the best all around players ever)can pretty deceive the opponent, killing the ball on the second receive instead of setting it up not to mention her superb running spike service.

Regla Bell was a very powerful lefty and an Olympic veteran. Yumilka Ruiz whose staying power is still enjoyed by many today and whose small frame is definitely deceiving (ala Tabaquero). Fernandez was also solid on defense and a knock out punch attack. Their other setter was not as impressive (in my opinion) but she was a good counterpart for Aguero.

But their key player definitely had to be Regla Torres with her regal, striking and imposing figure at the center of the court. Sino kaya hindi maaasiwa dun. She had just been named best player of the 20th century. She gives a solid block and the best running quick attack.

Some interesting tidbits:

Italy and USA just qualified for the Beijing Olympics and guess who is in the line up of Italy Women’s Volleyball Team????

You won’t believe this….Taismary Aguero. Their last match in the World Cup was with Aguero’s former team Cuba 3-0.

Wow!!! That’s shocking. But I must admit if UST is branded as players with class and sophistication, ang Cuba naman, very intimidating, sobrang walang affect. Doesn’t even smile sometimes after a score. Specially nung panahon pa ng Manila Leg (Yung Dalawang Reglas - Belle and Torres) Fernandez, Aguero and etc. Sobrang enraged it’s not even funny.

@otep: Para saken si Izquierdo ang da best (tama ba ang spelling)… big hair, unorthodox services and sharp attitude… hahaha. joke!!! Siguro gusto ko si hmmmm… si Carillo. I guess she is playing the middle blocker nung last na competition. Very smart attacker and may variation ang hits. Also effective in defense.

I like Regla Belle more than Torres. Very down to earth but superb in performance. I remember one time when Torres received a yellow card by a referree due to misbehavior (naughty girl!). I don’t remember kung ano yung details. Pero I remember that particular incident… I know its a sin to compare a middle blocker and an opposite hitter. Pero what the heck!!!

I thank God wala na si Karpol sa Russian Team. Without him sobrang relaxed ang mga girls. (Chachkova my labs!).

Pero nagtataka lang ako. Bakit kaya sina Artamanova, Fernandez and Fofao? Sobrang bangko na sila ngayon. They are still seen in the competitions as bench players. When they are stars in the late 90’s. I feel sad for them…

well, this year may not be the year for DLSU beacause they have many rookies..with it they can”t surely beat, atleast the more seasoned team.. eventhough this is the case, they still gave a good fight knowing their status..

Next year will be quite different…
their best player so far(No. 1 in blocking, No. 1 in serves.. and no. 4 in over all scores) Jack Alarca will be more dangerous and potent..
with the help of Mercado.. well, next season maybe up for the Green archers… Martinez will also gain more experience and so as with regine diego(mozzy actually said she admired diego for her confidence and determination in getting the balls).. until then, 8s good that the Lady archers maintained their championship form…

that’s right meow2x..im a certified graduate of DLSU and their No.1 fan..actually, I’m quite frustrated on their stand ryt now.. but still in every team, there are instances when a team will loose 8s major players with it, losing their championship reign..

still, i go for them and im xure nxt year will be different with what ALARCA is showing.. DATUIN and LLAGUNO will still be around to help.. DIEGO, MAERCADO and MARTINEZ will also mature…

Alarca- no. 1 player in serves and blocks and no. 4 in over-all scoring

Martinez- no. 2 in terms of successful sets (knowing that she is still a rookie)

DLSU will be a very dangerous team next season…As far as I know, Michelle Datuin is not eligible anymore for Season 71… However, veteran setter Chie Saet and spiker Manilla Santos will be back… Illa Santos has two more years of eligibility in the UAAP and decided to skip this season because of an injury… As for Saet, she skipped this season because she is finishing her course… Alarca, Mercado, and Hernandez still have three more years of eligibility after season 70… Llaguno will be playing her last year in season 71

DLSU would be the team to watch for, for the next season of UAAP, although i am still hoping that they would make it for the final four this season…,

to jeRRoaNNe: i do believe that FEU won that game because UST had no time to practice with mance being hospitalized the morning before the FEU-UST match..with that, i think that UST had nerves against them as they didn’t exactly know how to adjust with bernal being tasked to be the middle hitter and cu as the new outside hitter…FEU capitalized on that hence, the lady tamaraws were able to defeat UST not without a fight though…come to think of it, FEU should’ve won over UST in 3 sets if they were that good..even with the unusual line-up, the tigresses still fought giving FEU a very hard time winning..regardless of such result, UST will bounce back and prove their supremacy..
