Maria Rosario Soriano. This pretty morena girl is not the just your ordinary UAAP volleyball player. She can spike hard, dig hard balls, serve well. Not only that, she is not just a good volleyball player but is one of the players who can be considered as a “renaissance” woman as she is smart, articulate, rich, beautiful, has a lot of fans and has a good body built. It is no wonder that Charo Soriano has a lot of fans in and out of the university. (Look at her smile. She looks glaring! Promise.) Besides, she is actually becoming one of the most prominent personality or students in the university because of her height and stance. Of course, another thing that people won’t forget about her is her “Shara-povic Shriek” which is probably the loudest shriek in the collegiate volley tourney. If you followed her, she already starred in a commercial in Shakey’s. Just few days back, she has also signed up with Nike as official endorser of their product together with teammate Trish Limgenco.
Anyway, back to game face.
Charo Soriano currently averages 18 points per game in the UAAP. Far from her lackadaisical performance last year and in V-League Summer Edition. However, after her injury in the Summer Edition of V-League, things have quite gone well for Charo. Before going to Thailand, Charo and partner Patti Taganas made it to the Finals of Petron Beach Volleyball 2nd Leg with the tandem of PCU’s Lani Cervantes and Arlene Bernardo. Months after, she and Patti Taganas went on to end up as runner-up or 2nd place in the UAAP Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament losing to the much experienced tandem of FEU’s Wendy Semana and Shai Gonzalez. She spent two weeks of her semestral break training with the Ateneo Lady Spikers in Thailand. There she experienced how hardcore volleyball training was like and how things really work in volleyball. Charo then had a big bang here in the Philippines right after they came back after upsetting then-defending champions UST Tigresses in 5 sets. The awe-inspiring performance of Charo continued as she went on to be Ateneo’s best player of the game for 6 times. At the end of Shakey’s V-League tournament, Charo Soriano was the #7 in Scoring or in the MVP Race besting out other college people (#1 was Kesinee, the Guest Player of Ateneo, #2 was Bualee of San Sebastian, #3 was Bautista of Adamson, #4 was Roces of UST, #5 was Carrillo of Lyceum, and #6 was Venus Bernal of UST). She also received the 100Plus Most Energetic Player Award because of her showing during last conference.

charo is a very good player…in the front and back line..i cant wait for the games sa sunday…lets see how charo execute her game against daquis, morada and semana..all of them will be in the front line at the same time i think..but then again one way or the other i know that charo can make a kill..i also hope that adu upsets uste on sunday….hehehehe…what do you think guys??

Among the UAAP women’s volleyball players, Ms Charo Soriano stands out, not only she plays great inside the court but the kind of leadership she demonstrate in every game she plays. She is the heart and soul of the ADMU team. She is the only consistent player in the team. She became the most reliable and dependable player. That’s why she deserve the MVP award in this season, even though her team might not make it in the final four. Since there are circulating rumors that some coaches wants or argue that the MVP must come from one of the teams who will make it in the final four. I think this quite unfair to ms soriano, because she leads in the scoring stats, which is one of the basis of selecting the MVP. She also can dig, block, pass, and serve above par. She is really a total and all around player. I will bet my life on it, if Ms Soriano plays for another team; that team will accept her with open arms because she is a great player. If coach Dulay arrived in ADMU when she started to play, she might be a one of the great players of the ADMU had ever produced. I learned from one of the Atenean spectator that she is currently in her post-graduate course. Can you imagine, a ball player who is about to finish her playing years had finished her undergraduate course. This is the kind of character of Ms Soriano, that she finished schooling before her playing years expired. This is the value what she learned from her parents and the school that taught her; that education will always be the key for someone who wants to succeed in this lifetime. I hope and pray that ADMU will make it in the final four, so that, she will take the MVP award. She will make a legacy that everyone will always remember in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball. To you, Ms Soriano and the rest of the ADMU team, give all your best to beat FEU or DLSU to clinch the 4th and final spot in the final four. Jervy Cruz was awarded as the MVP in Men’s Basketball. UST did not make it to the top four.
Charo Soriano’s situation, if ever, is on all fours with Jervy’s situation (in the event that ADMU does not make it to the top four). I don’t see any reason why Charo should be deprived of the award she certainly deserves more than the other contenders. Just my two cents.
But MVP or not, we all know who the real MVP is this season. That’s what matters most.

UST coach:kung sigawsigawan ung mga girls kala mu aso sinisigawan,in tight conditions like in a tight game,pag lalo mung sinigawan ang players lalo silang nagiging lutang,nakalimutan na ang praktis,puro pagbawi na lang nasa isip,
Lasalle coach:humiyaw man,parang motherly scold lang sha,nagpapaalala lang kung san sila nagkukulang
FEU coach:parang kapatid lang ang mga players,tuwing warmup,para lang silang magkakabarkadang nagbibiruan,pero pag game na,lahat ng sabihin ng coach,pumapasok sa mga players kasi iba bonding nila.
NU coach:menthor-student relationship,
UP coach:mild and relax style,uulitulitin lang ng mahinahon para tumatak sa isip mu ung plan

Ms Charo Soriano is destined to win the MVP award in this season. No one can deny the fact that she tops the volleyball skills department needed to claim the “MVP” title. She is not only a great ball player, but an intelligent and gorgeous person. I am glad that she will be endorsing NIKE. This is the fruit of all her hardship and sacrifices she invested in her game. I wish I could see other players to excel in the years to come, just like Ms Soriano. She will leave the UAAP Women’s Volleyball with a legacy of beauty, brains, and love of the game. In the event that the MVP will not be given to her, everybody knows who is the TRUE MVP in season 70 and will be always part of UAAP volleyball history. To Ms. Soriano, my best wishes in all your endeavors to come.

i’ve watched feu vs dlsu game and ust vs nu in live. and take note i came early i think around 7:30am, i observed how they make warm-up, and morada is so somewhat boast in her moves cause she’s not serious and she feel like she is great (parang paimpotante ba)… and feu won the game (of course)(nabwibwisit ako sa feu ang yayabang kala mo kung sino, kay daquis lang ako di naiinis)

after seeing charo and the blue eagles’ game against nu (2nd round), i must admit that i was quite surprised, stunned even, by soriano’s play on the court. dang she was everywhere man! from her front row attacks to her very well orchestrated back line hits,and impeccable digging, she showed superb performance..
if there is one player worthy being named as this season’s MVP, i cannot think of someone worthier than charo.
anyway, this post is unrelated, but i notice that whenever daquis is on the spotlight, she always gets compared to other players..

i am a Ust fan.. pero aminado akong bgay tlaga kay ms. rosario soriano ang MVP award… she deserve it naman… wala nakakapantay sa all around player niya. she can do anything and evrything under the sun… minsan nga nagkakainjury sya kasi hindi sya nagpapahinga… gusto nya bago sya mawala sa ADMU ay makaranas man lng itong tumuntong sa final 4.. it was, i think more than 5 years ago na nakita ang team nila sa final 4…. gagraduate lng siya na di man lng nakilala ng tao ang pinaghirapan niya 4 5yrs… HINDI AKO PAPAYAG.. third and final set was the hardest set to win for ateneo,the match went to 13 – 21 in favor of UP,ateneo,did get back but still has to battle for a duece and ended with scores 26-24,siguru nagpabaya na sila kasi last set na yun, but in my delight,7-6 standing ng ADMU,a set more than DLSU which is in its 6-6 standings right now,it will be probably a tie breaker scenario nxt week for lasalle admu,gogogo charo,i love you so much,hehehehh

I want to make history for Ateneo.â€this is what miss charo quoted and did comment when she was interviewed a few days ago, she really is a humble and a down to earth person even though she deserves to get that award for being the best scorer in the volleyball league this season. this atenean girl i think likes to get that trophy not just by herself alone but as a team,even this girl always get the scores inside the court she remain humble and simple. i hope and encourage her team mates not to leave her behind inside the court, volleyball i think is a team situation so pls push yourself to the limits. i also hope that bea pascual well be well soon from injury she is a big factor and help to that team, her absence will put that team in a slow motion but charo is still there so i think they can survive and climb this highest hill. ballentine i think is a little bit slow when playing inside the court she should practice killing, jumping and down stroke smashing that ball, if ever iba and mapili n mvp this season charo should not worry coz many of her fans still wants to recognize her as the true mvp if you want a proof see her scoring stats and profile in uaap records,gud luck ateneo keep improving there are always room for improvement, bye?

The only team to have a seventh player on the team to make it to the top 50 is FEU with:
Cabanag at 44th with 30 pts.
If you can observe, both Adamson and FEU are really working as a team that if one player gets a bad game, the others could step up (basing on the distribution of their points).
This is not the same case though as UST relies much (with their power attacks, who wouldn’t though) on Balse, Bernal and Tabaquero. The other ladies need to pour out more points as well.
Also, the switch between Dimaculangan and Tan could pretty well shake up UST. I’m not too sure but I think Tan’s confidence will definitely drop considering that she had been sitting on the bench most of the times (I love her but am just being objective). I just hope that the memory that Tan set their way to the crown last season will not be lost.
Adamson has been lording over all other teams. If you will look at the minutes played between Adamson and the other teams, they got most of the shortest time played except of course UST and DLSU. However, they might just feel the pressure of being at the top and might get just too relaxed on their games.
FEU, on the other hand, has been playing full force when it matters. As the season goes full swing, FEU gets even better and stronger. However, in their games against AdU, they have fallen twice in three straight sets…which still remains an enigma.
What’s in store for the three teams?
FEU has more young players compared to the other top two teams. Whether or not they will win this year, they will surely be a top contender in the coming years.
Adamson has never wore a UAAP crown. Will it be this year is what the girls are heavily working on. They have been a force to reckon with despite having a small line-up but their defense has lead them at par with the top teams. Most of their starters are still playing next season, so we will see.
UST has recently been lording major leagues. Height combined with skill and power proved to be too strong for most of the teams. But the question is, if Balse and Bernal will move on, will their claws be still sharp and the growl be as strong?
So who will win this year?
I would love to see Adamson get it. First would be sweet.
It would be sweet revenge for FEU not to mention continue their solid tradition.
It would be memorable for Balse (if true that this is her last playing season), probably one of the best to grace the court.
So who will win again?
It will be the TEAM with the most heart.

In this world of volleyball, anything can happen, just like you wish for ADMU to be in the finals. Personally, ADMU in the final four is enough to prove their worthiness as an improved team. From the weeping girls of the UAAP WV from years back, to a competitive team now with a MVP caliber player in the team. They will be placed in UAAP WV history as the most improved team in this season. It saddens me that half of the team will not be playing next season, because of their playing years had expired. They will start to rebuild another team for the next season. If hope they could find good players to maintain the level of competitiveness they are showing. Let’s enjoy the final playing year of Ms Soriano, and pray that she will be the MVP for this season.

The roster of Ateneo is composed of 3 masteral students. The rest are sophomores and rookies. In fact, there are 6 rookies in the team and 3 sophomores. The other two is Bianca Sison who is just in her third year in UAAP and Stephanie Sison who is likewise a junior.
True, the team will be rebuilding next year but come Season 72, they have what it takes to be the top contender for the championship with of course, Pascual, Ballentyne, Quimpo, Paje, Acevedo improving and the new recruits ______ and _______ helping them.

i really wish and hope that ateneo will be in the final four this season before charo ends up his school yrs in ateneo and before her playing term expires.Hes been playing with this team for more or less 4 yrs. Charo contributed a lot not only in this team ateneo but also in the uaap womens volleyball as whole ,she is a big factor on why this game is alive and continue to shine this season, this sports is now being been recognize by most of the people, they are starting to watch in their tv homes, even see it live in ateneo gym, volleyball fanatic peeson started to cheer for their favorite team and players, so charo is one of those player who really helps this sports known and famous in this era now.Charo’s fans also get to noticed/appreciate her sportmanship inside the court, she is a very nice/smart person, she scores/plays relentlessly but yet remain to be a humble person,she also quote” that she want to give something in return/back to ateneo who taught and supported her in one way or another and in many things she accomplish right now. charo really is a model volleyball player right now and nice person to look into. i hope this girl will not stop playing volleyball because she had so many admirers and avid fans outthere who wants to see her playing volleyball inside the court . i also hope that Phil sports commission will create a proffesional volleyball team or philippine volleyball association where bussiness owners/proprietor can indorse their bussiness product and can able to sponsor a team like for example creating womens volleyball for purefoods team, alaska milk volleyball team, san miguel beer volleyball team, and talk and text phone pal volleyball team.This can be achieve and possible thru advetisement and aired product indorsement,where this college player can be given an opportunity to play after their player term in colleges and universities. charo I think is very young really to be working after her season in uaap.I think she should enjoy at the penacle of the sports shes into,shes now very popular in womens volleyble in this era now, she should grab every opportunity at hand, she could earn more from indorsement and commercials, she can even help the Philippine Nat’l Team elevate on the top in womens volleyball asia. i hope feu can win this time, i know UST can play very well even in hard, tough times, and under pressure, they need to win this match to prove that they still deserve the championship, but if FEU will going to play and show what they did on their last two matches with the latter, and be even wiser, more quick and smarter, and add more combinations on their attacks, be more excellent in floor defense, and try to block evrytime the opponent is attacking and always have high confidence on their abilities, i think they can still beat ust, and i also think that upto these days FEU is the only team in the UAAP that does have the power to beat UST, and it is proven may times… am crossing my fingers on wednesday warfare…i hope that may favorite team perform well and even better…
am really praying for them to win and am not going to work just to watch the game hehehe… thats how i love my team and thats how i trusted them…

ateneo play a great game performance last 08 april 2008 against the FEU team, they really played well specially in blocking, if ateneo is very consistent on their blocking i think they can beat the tough team adamson, volleyball is not all about spike, killing and scoring its the block that counts, if you look at the history of volleyball-team win volleyball championship because of their tough blocking performance, ateneo did a really good job in blocking against feu last 08 april good luck, be consistent on your blocking, just a simple suggestion and reminder

Two topnotch teams from the Visayas — CESAFI champion University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu and reigning PRISAA champion University of St. La Salle in Bacolod—will join the four Metro Manila teams that will not qualify outright to the semifinal round.
Sports Vision is the organizer of the V-League which is currently in the homestretch of the elimination round of the first conference.

“This is the very first time provincial teams will be participating in the V-League. USLS, which boasts pretty and talented Fil-Am Marcelina Yandall, is coached by former PVF (Philippine Volleyball Federation) president Roger Banzuela,” Rhea said.
“USJR, on the other hand, is mentored by Grace Antigua, one of the best volleyball players ever produced by our country. A SEA Games gold medalist, Grace was a member of the RP women’s team that brought home three gold medals in l981, l985 and 1987. The last time the country won a gold in the SEA Games was in 1993.”
According to Rhea, Cebu’s USJR is currently on the lookout for a guest player who will reinforce the team.
“Actually, they don’t have to look far. Grace can coach and play at the same time. She can be a volleyball player-coach,” Rhea said.

But active playing could be farthest from Grace’s mind. She has been pushing for bosom buddy Thelma Barina, a member of the l993 SEA Games gold medal team, to be the guest player. Thelma is reputed to be the best lady spiker of Southeast Asia during her time.
Although she is probably now in her mid-forties, Grace believes it would be a good idea for the young volleybelles to play with and against Thelma because they will learn a lot from her. In spite of her age, Grace said, Thelma can still give budding stars a run for their money.
USLS will be led by Teresa Valdez, Sheryl June Denila, Laedy Cepeda, Patty Orendain, Realyn Valeriano, Kay and Loverich Aplasca, April Hingpit, Era Shane Celis, Sheryl Silva, Je-Ann Ledesma, Kristalien Lopez and Yandall while USJR will parade Genie Sabas, Michelle Simbajon, Genesis and Perlyn Soliva, Avegale Getuaban, Rachel Singson, Sarah Miculob, Princess Canda, Cristy Laroga, Angela Lacno, Mary Joy Bonita, Gwendolyn Gutang and Erika Verano.
Players of both teams have managed to impress Shakey’s marketing director Meggie Jose, who recently returned from the Visayas to personally look over the two teams. She said the Southern volleybelles are tall, sexy, good looking and talented.

But when i saw charo play during there last game ( sayang nga eh!!! ) with the ust, i told myself that this is the woman behind the name Volleyball. Like when you are in a room and you see this morena girl pass by, you see Volleyball… got me?

the only player i know na puedeng pumalo ng patusok sa ateneo besides their gp sunny is charo soriano, unlike adamson there so many option to choose from like bautista, laguilles, benting, segodine -all hard hitter athlete, kasi i observe ateneo is having hard time on beating this guys adamson since uaap season 70 and until now in shakeys v league.Charo is a very good player but she doesnt have many of her supporting cast to really finish the game off as the saying goes”its now how you start the game its how you finish it”,but i know na kaya pa nilang talunin tong adamson at ssc thru their blocking, reception and coverage as the saying goes’no guts no glory” and no retreat no surrender”, katulad nitong adamson na patusok kung pumalo ng bola all they need to do is to focus on non stop blocking and nice reception to frustrate this tough team adamson who really plays well this season, at tsaka ateneo should play volleyball smartly and wisely(with gulang) to distract and demoralize the adamson team who is unstopable in offense, go ateneo gud luck

The UAAP hype, the V-League excitement, the power of the PVF Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament… Whew! The first quarter of 2008 was really a blast for all of us volleyball fans. Volleyball aficionados flocked the venues to witness these respective events and it never fails to give us euphoria. Come October, the Asian Junior Girl’s Volleyball Championships will take its place at the country. But for the mean time, are going on hiatus? I don’t think so.
At the end of the month of June is the beginning of a new battle that will surely leave us breathless. The National Volleyball Open, sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF), will officially begin on June 30, 2008. It is said that the opening is going to be staged at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, here in Manila. The temporary venue for the July 1-3 games is the TIP Gymnasium, and then back at Rizal Memorial Coliseum for the July 4-6 games.
The tournament seeks to draw in the top players from various universities and collegiate teams from different sporting events (such as the UAAP, NCAA, NCRAA, SCUAA, PASUC, etc.), teams from other leagues (I believe, teams from Volle650 could join), and corporate teams from business establishments, delegations from the Philippine Army, Navy and Air Force. There will be two divisions, the Men and Women’s title. The National Open also boasts formidable line up of players that includes national team members, UAAP and NCAA hotshots, former strong varsity volleyball players and as well as guest players that played in televised leagues. Truly, the National Open is worth the wait. I’m really excited about this.
The PVF is still accepting applications. According to them, they are still welcoming applications. If you want to join the event, you can inquire personally at their office at the RMSC, Swimming Stadium, Pablo Ocampo Sr. St., Malate, Manila, or you can call at 526-8438.
