Lady Eagles vs. Lady Archers: a battle for survival

January 30 - Blue Eagle Gym
8 AM - UP vs UST
10 AM - AdU vs NU
2 PM - ADMU vs DLSU
4 PM - UE vs FEU

Here we are again. The greatest sports rivalry of all time will be underway on Wednesday, January 30, 2 PM at the Blue Eagle Gym with a slogan of “Whoever blinks, loses”. The nation’s most passionate and pride-filled rivalry is at it again this time in Women’s Volleyball action.

Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University both tote a 5-5 card in the standings. This Wednesday:

Ties will be broken.
Rivalries will be relived once more.
Heart and Hunger will be tested.
WHOEVER BLINKS, LOSES
.

Prepare for another exciting match between the arch-rivals as they fight it out for the battle for the #4 seed. The Ateneo Lady Eagles, who has a 5-5 standing, will be pressured to repeat against former UAAP 3-Peat Champion De La Salle Lady Archers, because of the many things at stake. A La Salle win can force a deciding game between Ateneo and La Salle for the #4 seed later on in the post-season while an Ateneo win can somehow assure Ateneo of a Final Four slot and can kiss the dreams of La Salle goodbye. La Salle will be more forced to win this as a sign of reliever since after the epic battle with their arch-rivals Ateneo, they have to face traditional volleyball powerhouses FEU Lady Tamaraws and UST Tigresses as compared to Ateneo who will only face UP Lady Maroons and NU Lady Bulldogs in their next games. A must-win for both squads as it will determine their fate for the rest of the tournament.

Some statistical notes to ponder upon:

  • La Salle has the #5 Attacker in the league in Elisa Camile Cerveza while no player from Ateneo entered the Top Ten Attackers
  • La Salle also has the edge in blocking having the #1 (Jacqueline Alarca), #2 (Celine Hernandez), #6 (Stephanie Mercado) and #8 (Michelle Paulin Datuin) while Ateneo only has #4 (Maria Rosario Soriano).
  • La Salle again edges out Ateneo individually in serving having the #1 Server in the league in Jacqueline Alarca while no representative from Ateneo is in the top ten in serving.
  • Ateneo and La Salle meanwhile are at par individually in digging as Ateneo has the #1 (Charo Soriano) and #10 (Maria Carmina Denise Acevedo) while La Salle has the #5 (Regina Diego) and #6 (Carla Marie Llaguno) digger in the league.
  • In setting, Ateneo and La Salle are pretty much at par with Maria Klarissa Martinez of La Salle at the #2 spot while Karla Bellof of Ateneo is at #4.
  • Ateneo meanwhile edges La Salle in receiving as Karla Bello, Trisha Anne Therese Limgenco and Maria Rosario Soriano all from Ateneo crowds #1, #3 and #5 receiving skills for the league in receiving while no representation has been made from La Salle.
  • In terms of team efforts, Ateneo is more on the defensive end edging out La Salle in Receiving and Digging while La Salle more on the offensive area edging out Ateneo in Blocking and Serving.
  • Ateneo and La Salle are pretty much at par in terms of Attacking and Setting.
  • Ateneo meanwhile has an advantage in scoring with the leading MVP candidate in their line-up in Maria Rosario Soriano and Rookie of the Year contender Maria Carmina Denise Acevedo at the ninth. Jacqueline Alarca will probably be the main offensive option of La Salle being the fourth MVP candidate in the league.

spikeithard, I have a question. suppose a benchwarmer is brought in as a substitute attacker for a team. This person then scores a point immediately, but unfortunately gets injured and had to exit the rest of the season. Her attack success rate would be 1 attack/1 attempt=100% sucess. Obviously, this is the highest possible attack rate so would she win the best attacker award?

Natanong ko lang because Cerveza of DLSU is not a regular player, so the fact that she’s no. 5 in attacking means that she probably got her points from attacking in her seldom appearance in the games. So hindi siya naboblock at siguro hindi rin siya nagkaka attack error; magiging mataas talaga yung attack success rate niya. Dito lang ba binabase yung award? Because honestly, it seems dumb to me. :D

I would love seeing La Salle win over Ateneo… However, La Salle has nothing to lose if ADMU will win because every player has already proven themselves that even though they are young and they have lost a lot of their key players, they were still able to compete… Especially Jacqueline Alarca who is only on her second playing year but competing against Charo Soriano and Mary Jean Balse, who are on their last playing year, and Venus Bernal who on her 4th playing yr, in the MVP Race… Being the league’s 4th scorer (actually she’s 3rd in the current statistics but that was because of Mary Jean Balse’s bad game day), #1 blocker, and #1 server is something for a junior player…

There may be a great probability for La Salle to kiss goodbye to their chances in entering the semi-finals, but like what I said, at least they have proven na hindi lang sila basta-bastang team… They gave both UST and Adamson a hard time… Remember that among all the teams that Adamson has beaten, it is only La Salle that they haven’t pulvurized because they beat all the other teams in 3 straight sets (ohh they beat UE in 4 sets but the scores in the other sets we pretty far) but they needed 5 sets to beat La Salle in the first round and 4 sets in the second round. Among all the wins by UST, aside from the one from Adamson, their win against La Salle is the most hard-fought…

Parang minamalas talaga ang La Salle kapag televised ang game dahil palagi na lang so near yet so far ang nagiging story ng mga games nila… Hopefully, they’ll be able to get a win in a televised game… If ever, that will be the sweetest one because it will be a victory against non other than their arch-rival…

ANIMO LA SALLE!

[Reply]

@ Spikeithard : I think Llaguno’s full name is not Carla Marie but Ma. Carla Enrica

[Reply]

i love ateneo to win this game!!!

[Reply]

Definitely,La Salle will win..eheh

[Reply]

Powerhouse pla tlaga ang FEU imagine d coach of both squads are coming fr. there, even d asst. coach of UST is also coming fr. FEU…

[Reply]

@spikeithard: question kasi i watched the ust-feu game last sunday and i heard that boom gonzalez and ann remulla talked about a player of UP na sister ni aiko melendes. walang lang i’m just curious who she is…
can anyone tell me. thanks.

anyways, i think ateneo has the edge over la salle offensively having charo soriano and acevedo but la salle is better in defense diba nga sabi nila “defense is the best offense so we’ll never know. may the better team wins.

goodluck on both teams!

[Reply]

kinakabahan naman ako sa statistics na yan, parang dehadong dehado naman ang ateneo, basta,go ateneo pa rin, galingan mu crystal ballentine… hhehehehhe

[Reply]

i am hoping that La Salle would win its match to ADMU…, because for me, they are more deserving to be in the semi-finals than ADMU!
Forza La Salle, Green White Fight!

[Reply]

I am so looking forward to this game

Now we’ll see if DLSU is indeed on their way to recovery or if ADMU can arrest their current losing streak.

I just hope that Bea Pascual can play in this game. And that both Cahr Soriano and Karla Bello are 100%

I also hope that Michelle Datuin is ready to play

[Reply]

@Fahfrd : Bea Pascual is sitting out the whole season because it will take months for her to recover from her injury

[Reply]

I’m sorry to say but if ADMU wins this game and eventually advance to the semi-finals, there is a great probability that they’ll just get pulvurized by any of the top 3 teams… If it’s gonna be DLSU, we already see how they have given hard time to UST and AdU so whether they get to the finals or not, at least the top seed teams won’t get a finals slot that easy

[Reply]

yah..lahat tlga ng game na televised..talo cla..but i think there just being human and a rookie.. but don’t say its the end because, Lasalle already showed what they can do.. and for me, tommorrow will be a real testament of what they can do.. i know for a fact that coach ramil will be having a game plan that will surely beat the blues..but its the players’ will that will make them win.. hope to see DLSU at the finals for a more difficult semi-finals…

[Reply]

Hi donlyone, so Bea Pascual will not be suting up for ADMU for this season anymore?

That is a shame, she is one of my fave players in ADMU.

I hope she is able to recover by next season.

[Reply]

Animo La Salle!…. I have a question for you Miles…. Ateneo or La Salle?! ahaha

[Reply]

It’s very hard for me to choose between these two. Blues and Greenies are very close to my heart. So I’ll just wear white on Wednesday. Haha.

[Reply]

Definitely, LA SALLE will win!!!!!

[Reply]

hope Ateneo would win this fight.. Ateneo One Big Fight!!

[Reply]

can’t contain my excitement..bukas na talaga, labanan itu ng mga sosyalera, masasabi ko lang, may the richest girls in town win…hehhehehe

[Reply]

To vulcan_21:

Si Danielle Castañeda yun ng UP.

[Reply]

@ Fahfrd : Yeah… You won’t be seeing Bea Pascual in action for the whole season because she suffered from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury and I think a person suffering from such injury needs more or less 6 months to recover

[Reply]

I’m rooting for Ateneo. Wala lang.

Go Charo!

[Reply]

Hi kara_bosch, so Danielle Michiko Castaneda is the sister of Aiko Melendez?

Paano nangyari iyon?

Sa mother side or sa father side?

[Reply]

La Salle plays every game as a team… Although Alarca is league’s 3rd best scorer followed by Llaguno at the 10th spot, Datuin, Mercado, and Hernandez are on the 14th, 15th, and 16th spot respectively and Martinez is at the 48th spot (of course the setter isn’t really expected to score lots of points)… Patunay lang na lahat sa team gumagawa unlike in Ateneo… Charo Soriano is at the first spot, then Cara Acevedo is at the 12th spot… after them, Taganas is at the 26th, Ballentyne is at the 29th, Pascual is at the 42nd (ok forgive it! She’s injured), Bello is at the 47th (ok, again a setter is not expected to score lots of points) and Quimpo is at the 49th spot… Di ba ang lalayo??? So it just shows that ADMU team is too much dependent on Charo and Cara… So if they win the game, it’s not Ateneo who won it… It’s Charo Soriano and Cara Acevedo…

Although I’m a Lasallian, Ateneo is so close to my heart… But I can’t deny that La Salle deserves the win… Volleyball is a team sport and La Salle is the team who plays every game as a team…

[Reply]

lot’s of people here will weep sfter ateneo defeats lasalle tommorow.. di sana ko sana majinx ang ateneo sa panunuod ko bukas don sa katipunan..g go ateneo, ang gaganda nyu talaga…

[Reply]

kung magdebate kayo parang ateneo-lasalle championship na ah… hehehe

[Reply]

^Of course, Ateneo and La Salle are the King and Queen when it comes to school pride. Hehe. Paglalaban ng Ateneo sa La Salle at La Salle sa Ateneo. Kaya nga most passionate sports rivalry in the country siya eh. :)

i hope la salle can make it…they also have the chance to win against ust,feu and adu if they will make it on the final four, i mean with the height and the blocking ability of these girls plus their attacking skills, not far for them to steal the championship from the other team ahead of them…tama pips???

How sad, another loss to my alma mater, UP.

Cheer up Danielle, Rebecca and Jolina. I’m just here if you need consoling (yeah, I know in my dreams)

Oh well, there are still the next games

Congrats to UST for rebounding from the devastating loss to FEU and getting a win against UP

[Reply]

two sets to one na..la salle ang lamang…eheheheh

[Reply]

One big fight!
Kaya pa yan!

[Reply]

though i really anticipated this, well, DLSU defeated ADMU in a 4-sets game, being maria carla llaguno as the best player garnering a total of 14 points (13 attacks, 1 service ace and an impressive 10 digs!). DLSU really came prepared for their rematch to ADMU that’s why they had defeated the lady eagles using their great court defense and an excellent offense which resulted for a double-digit scores of some players such as alarca with a big 20 points, mercado with 14 points and datuin who does the honor to close the fourth set, with 15points! maria carla llaguno serves as the main spark plug to the lady archers during the second set, and somehow motivated her teammates to perform well. and here’s the final score for this rematch:
DLSU: 25 25 19 25
ADMU 17 23 25 19

[Reply]

hey anthony, i watched their rematch and i’m really happy for the result though i feel sorry for what had happened to charo soriano during the fourth set! she suffered from a cramps due to her bad fall after receiving the service of mercado. infairness to the lady archers, they really came prepared because they gave the lady eagles a hard time and difficulty to make more points. they once again showed their great defense in court and in blocking! only soriano delivered most of the points in ADMU, followed by taganas and ballentyne but not with an impressive scores like the players of DLSU!

[Reply]

Oh well, congrats La Salle.
I do hope that Ateneo can still force a playoff match for the fourth slot.

[Reply]

yipey panalo na ang la salle sa wakas…naiinis na ang nanay ko sa akin…ang kulit ko daw…hehehe

[Reply]

sayang talaga si charo… di narin siguro mapupunta sa kanya ang best scorer..hhuhu…

[Reply]

yeah, i really feel sorry for her…, although that injury is not really a severe one, it still might affect her performance. one thing more, if ADMU couldn’t able to enter in semi-finals, she would eventually lose her chance also to be this season’s MVP! if it happens, i’m hoping for balse to be the MVP!LOLS!

[Reply]

Congrats to DLSU for beating ADMU

I’m glad to hear that Datuin played well

[Reply]

Congrats DLSU!!

Sana naman makapaglaro pa si Charo. Pero mukha namang makakarecover pa sya. Sayang kasi ang mga points nya at tsaka talagang sya ang main scorer ng Ateneo.

To Fahfrd:

Hindi ko alam kung saang side eh. Bka sa mom side. Makikichismis muna ako ha. It’s nice to know na we have the same alma mater. Hehe. Mukhang improving naman yung UP team based sa scores nila vs UST. 26-28 pa sa 3rd set. Sayang! Pero UST is so powerful talaga. Hehe.

Anyway, congrats sa UST, ADU at DLSU for winning today’s games. FOr sure naman FEU mananalo against UE. Ano games sa sunday?

[Reply]

Thanks, kara_bosch

Post mo na lang kapag nalaman mo iyung relationship link nila Aiko at Danielle.

Hehehe…..

Sana nga na manalo ulit ang UP. Saya-saya kapag manalo sila ng game kasi minsan lang mangyari

Hehehe….

[Reply]

Actually, it was La Salle who needed the game more to survive. An Ateneo loss would just force a playoff match for the fourth spot while had Ateneo won a while ago, they could’ve assured themselves of a Final Four appearance.

Back Luck came to Ateneo’s way this year. They lost Bea Pascual to injury and saw Patti Taganas and Karla Bello got injured also. Now Charo? Whew. Who’s next? Acevedo? Ballentyne?

La Salle was impressive a while ago but I’m more troubled about Ateneo’s attacking errors and floor defense. It’s as if Ateneo was really having an off game today.

Let’s see who will win in the Playoff game between Ateneo and La Salle for the fourth slot. :)

I heard from some UAAP officials a while ago that even if Ateneo doesn’t make it to the Final Four, she is now a lock-in for the MVP. I think the UAAP Board also considered Charo’s being in the Top Ten Diggers, Receivers and Blockers. I hope she’s fine.

As for La Salle. Whew! Finally a statement and a win on a televised game! This might even things a bit. But, like I said, this game was crucial for them because they were in a do-or-die situation a while ago. If they win, they can force a playoff game while if they lose, they automatically get booted out of the Final Four race. They just have to hope that Ateneo will lose to FEU in the Elimination Ender Games since the last time FEU and Ateneo met, FEU won 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12. :)

It was very touching to see Rachelle Anne Daquis, Josephine Cafranca, Wendy Semana and Maica Morada cheering for Ateneo a while ago. And then when Charo Soriano was injured, they approached her right away after the game just to check if she is okay.

Animo La Salle! Animo Ateneo!

Hay. Sana both my teams na lang are assured of the Final Four not just one.

[Reply]

Absolutely,Cetainly,Really ATENEO will win!=))

[Reply]

injured si Charo?????

[Reply]

di na ko magtataka na nanalo ang UST ng 3sets against UP. .haha! so what happen to the dlsu and admu game? CNU NANALO?

sana ADMU! fav ko din c charo soriano eh! she’s pretty and sooo smart and a good player also.

pero. angeli pa din ang da best. haha! :)

[Reply]

@ 4daloveofthegame2 : Sorry DLSU won! (3-1) : 25-17,25-23,19-25,25-19… Charo is so good but… Unfortunately she can’t beat the combined efforts of Alarca, Mercado, Llaguno, Datuin, and Hernandez… Isama mo na din si Kaye Martinez dahil ang service ace nya ang nagbigay ng second set sa La Salle…

[Reply]

yeah charo was so good but she can’t do all the scoring..tignan mo nalang nangyari sa kanya kanina..sobra kc xa nlng gumagawa halos ng lahat ng points aun nagkacramps tuloy..tas c acevedo knina puro errors..knina tlga mas maganda nilaro ng lasalle

[Reply]

i will feel bad if soriano wont get any award just because their team wasnt able to get into the semis…if im not mistaken, the scores during the semis will be carried over as factors to consider in choosing individual winners/awardess…

but if charo soriano has a big lead over the next two players she might still get the award since two games lang naman d ba for the semis before the finals… i dont think the scores during the finals will be counted since there will be an award for finals MVP.

re Danielle of UP, she is the half sister of Aiko. Since last season pa Aiko has been supporting her younger sister during their games…sinasama pa nga nya nuon yung second ex nya in watching the games…

Go adamson! may pahabol pa talaga hehehe

[Reply]

Kaya pala. Nagtataka ako sa “Michiko” na middle name kasi it’s supposed to be Japanese. So Castañeda is Japanese after all.

[Reply]

@ otepus : In men’s basketball, they only counted the statistics in regular season games, meaning games in the elimination round, in choosing the Mythical Five and the MVP… I don’t know kung ganun din sa Women’s Volleyball… Last season, Bea Pascual won the Best Blocker award and Patty Taganas won the Best Digger Award even if Ateneo wasn’t able to get into the semi-finals… So siguro they will just count the statistics for regular season games…Correct me if I’m wrong :))

[Reply]

nanuod kasi ako sa gym eh,natalo tuloy ateneo, nxt time di na ko pupunta ateneo, hahahahah

[Reply]

Actually, Charo Soriano can pile up a lot of awards this season. Best Digger, Best Scorer and probably the MVP. :)

hi Lasallista,

all I can say is GOODLUCK! hehe peace! :)

UST vs ADU for FINALS

DLSU vs FEU battle for 3rd nlng…

[Reply]

I can see it like this. If La Salle gets the fourth seed, mahihirapan ang Adamson makuha ang slot sa finals since La Salle is one of the two teams which gave them a five setter. If Ateneo gets fourth seed, Adamson will most probably win the first match and enter the finals.

Para makasure-win ang Adamson, FEU should win the second seed, getting the twice to beat advantage. Seeing the way FEU played UST in the elims, FEU will most probably win second seed in the first match. Then Adamson will win 2-0 against FEU.

This is only my opinion, based lang sa performance ng teams sa elims. Pero the real matches only start sa semis! Anything can happen.

[Reply]

@ donlyone:

ohh.. sayang! i thought ADMU won, pag ba UAAP, si kesinee hndi naglalaro diba? kasi guess player. pero if ever nandun xa, siguro talo DLSU. iba kasi magset ng play si kesinee. lalo na kapag tulungan pa sila ng bello. for a quick set. haha! like ung sa v-league. hmmm.. so ito na ba ung game para malaman kung sino ang team na final four??.. sa tingin mo sino ang magiging MVP this season?? :) haha!

[Reply]

@ nnylemej:

ayos prediction mo ah! :D i love it! haha. . GO USTE! ok sana ang FEU. kaso parang. hndi pa enuf ung lakas nla para lumaban sa championship. para talagang deserving pa din ang “UST” para mag CHAMPION. pero malay na lang ntin. hehehe. peace* v.^__^

[Reply]

@ 4daloveofthegame2 : Yeah, Kesinee is not playing in the UAAP… At hindi siya GUESS PLAYER sa v-league — GUEST PLAYER siya! Siguro naman alam mo pagkakaiba ng GUESS sa GUEST!… Maybe what you were trying to say was IBA MAGEXECUTE NG PLAY SI KESINEE at hindi IBA MAGSET NG PLAY SI KESINEE… Bakit si Kesinee ang magseset ng PLAY eh hindi naman siya ang SETTER kundi si BELLO! At hindi sila sa QUICK SET nagtutulungan ni Bello! Sa QUICK PLAY sila nagtutulungan… That is when Bello gives a QUICK SET to Kesinee and KESINEE does a QUICK HIT to score!!!

Be careful on your TERMINOLOGIES… Nakakawindang kasi! Don’t get me wrong… I’m just correcting you… No offense meant…

MVP for this season? STATISTICALLY, it is between Charo Soriano, Venus Bernal, Jacqueline Alarca, and MARY JEAN BALSE…

[Reply]

@ Rieze : Yeah… That was what I was trying to point… If La Salle will be the one to get into the semi-finals… Hindi lang sila basta-basta pupulbusin ng mga top seed teams… What’s dangerous with La Salle is the fact that anybody in the team may explode… Kagaya kahapon, syempre we all know na that Jacqueline Alarca will be the go to girl of DLSU but Llaguno and Mercado came out giving the La Salle the win, plus Datuin, Hernandez, Martinez, and Diego also played well… Unlike in Ateneo, Charo Soriano was doing everything for the team — from offense to defense, so what else is new?

Nakita na natin kung panu pinahirapan ng La Salle ang UST at Adamson despite the fact that most of them are Junior players… Kaya I hope, they get into the semi-finals at sana after Ateneo ay matalo pa silang top seed teams… I’m sure it will be a good morale booster for them!

Funny naman. Pero tama ka. Ayusin naman ang pagpost

[Reply]

I hope Charo wins MVP. She has excellent defense both sa floor at sa net, tapos top scorer pa…She really worked hard, improved a lot, and really mastered her form this season. Pero tama din si donlyone, Bernal and Balse also have good chances to win MVP. So does Jack Alarca.

[Reply]

to donlyone: i hope that would be the case. though many have been criticizing the fact that “only” Soriano delivers in the squad, I still believe she deserves an award….if not MVP. Don’t you wish volleyball would someday enjoy the same status basketball does today?

Also, Guys let’s not take it against her (Soriano) that she is a standout in so many aspects of the game. There have been many players (in other ball games) who stood out coz of their personal strengths and people never took it out of the team.

Just made me think, kung may mythical five lang sana sa volleyball I would say:

1. Soriano
2. Balse
3. Bernal
4. Semana
5. Serafica

Next five for me would be:

6. Tabaquero
7. Laguilles
8. Alarca
9. Benting
10. Daquis

Libero ko would be Adajar…wala na pala heheh. I meant Gata…
If you don’t like my choices guys, make your own…no need to be rude hehehe.

[Reply]

Hmm, good question otepus.

My mythical team in the current UAAP season so far would be:
Open:
- Venus Bernal (UST)
- Rachel Anne Daquis (FEU)
- Rissa Jane Laguilles (AdU)
Middle:
- Char Soriano (ADMU)
- Mary Jean Balse (UST)
- Danielle Michiko Castaneda (UP)
Opposite:
- Angeli Tabaquero (UST)
- Jacqueline Alarca (DLSU)
- Macaila Irish May Morada (FEU)
Setter:
- Janet Serafica (AdU)
- Wendy Anne Semana (FEU)
- Rhea Dimaculangan (UST)
Libero:
- Lizlee Ann Gata (AdU)
- Rose Ann Taganas (FEU)
Utility:
- Ginaflor Alanguilan (UE)
- Jennifer Anne Cardoniga (NU)
- Patricia Lynn Taganas (ADMU)

Ang hirap, mas madami akong gusto isama. At iyung iba palipat-lipat ng positions, kaya mahirap i-slot.

I also tried to put at least one representative per team.

How about you guys? Who are in your mythical teams?

Hehehe…..

[Reply]

^^ Di ba dapat, mythical six or mythical seven kapag volleyball? :))… Anyway here are my picks…

TEAM A :

Setter : Janet Serafica (AdU)
Open : Venus Bernal (UST)
Middle : Jacqueline Alarca (DLSU)
Middle : Mary Jean Balse (UST)
Open : Rachelle Anne Daquis (FEU)
Utility : Wendyanne Semana (FEU)
Libero : Lizlee Ann Gata (AdU)

TEAM B :

Setter : Rhea Dimaculangan (UST)
Open : Angela Benting (AdU)
Middle : Charo Soriano (ADMU)
Middle : Rissa Jane Laguilles (AdU)
Open : Ma. Angeli Tabaquero (UST)
Utility : Carla Llaguno (DLSU)
Libero : Rose Anne Taganas (FEU)

TEAM C :

Setter : Karla Bello (ADMU)
Open : Stephanie Mercado (DLSU)
Middle : Carmela Lopez (UP)
Middle : Mecaila Irish Morada (FEU)
Open : Shaira Gonzales (FEU)
Utility : Danielle Michiko Castaneda (UP)
Libero : Regine Diego (DLSU)

:)

[Reply]

@ otepus : Yeah! Ako din I do think that Charo Soriano deserves the award because she is the only player who is among the top players in every skill… Before the ADMU-DLSU game, she was #1 in scores, #1 in digs, #4 in blocks, and # 5 in receives… Another thing is last year na toh ni Charo as a player and she haven’t gotten any MVP award yet… At least, Ging Balse was once an MVP in the V-League kahit last year na din nya toh…Venus Bernal has already won a lot of MVP awards… As for Jackie Alarca, this is just her second playing year so she still has the 3 coming seasons to prove herself!

But even though I believe that Charo deserves the award… I don’t think Ateneo deserves a slot in semi-finals… ATENEO is a team that has always been dependent on a player… In the Shakey’s V-League, they were too much dependent on their import Lithawat Kesinee… Ngayon naman they’re too much dependent on Charo… Why is there none of the other players stepping up for the team?

[Reply]

@ 4daloveofthegame2 : One more thing boy/girl, you were saying that if Kesinee was there, DLSU could have lost the game! Haven’t you remembered that DLSU defeated ADMU (in 3 straight sets pa!) in their first meeting in the recently concluded Shakey’s V-League even if Kesinee was there… And have you forgotten that in that game, Kesinee only scored 14 points while Jacqueline Alarca scored 15 points?… At gawin nating patas… If Kesinee is there, then Maureen Penetrante must also be there because she was the team’s guest player in the recent V-League…

Girl/Boy, pls. don’t be to shallow on your posts… Everybody knows that UAAP is a collegiate league and not a commercial league like the Shakey’s V-League so such analysis as “Kung andun lang si Kesinee, talo sana ang DLSU!” is a stupid one!

[Reply]

wow i didn’t know alarca is just on her sophomore year…wow!!! what can we expect from her next year..

actually, i see her leaning towards how kesinee plays her game…very smart and knows how to place the balls well not to mention she’s got a real solid block…it’s not just about the height i guess but the level of game that she is playing…

maiba ako, ive always heard commentators saying kung matangkad lang ng konti ang mga ladies na ito…can u imagine what they can do???

1. Semana - destructive na nga with her height pano na lang kaya kung tumangkad pa ng konti

2. Benting - very powerful attacks…feeling ko fave tu ni Magsanoc…i have observed that even if Laguilles gets the best player award, benting’s name will still be mentioned and vice versa

3. Mercado - ok she has got the genes and the athleticism of Asia’s sprint queen …but she has blossomed into a great player…sabi nga ni mozzy ba yun…last year grabe yata ang practice kasi nung maglaro na ng shakeys parang ibang stephanie na…

4. Cruz of NU - hahahah hinde ako sigurado kung cruz ba yung family name…basta may 2 starting players sa NU na same ang FN…yung isa na medyo tomboy ang dating…may porma tlaga kung pumalo…d nga lang din katangkaran…

5. Bangladesh Pantaleon - ok i know she is not from UAAP pero wow with her height she surely jumps really highhhhh…

Some Crazy Thoughts:

If there is a dream team…i would name this team small yet mighty dream team (for lack of vocabulary, pasensya na)….

1. Semana
2. Benting
3. Mercado
4. Bangladesh Pantaleon
5. Suarez - Guest player pagbigyan nyo na ako
heheheh
6. Pepito - libero
7. Adajar - Guest player ..pwede dalawa libero
hahahah

imagine yang pito tapos itatapat mo kay

1. Serafica
2. Bernal
3. Balse
4. Daquis
5. Alarca
6. Laborte - guest player
7. Santos - guest libero

What do you think? hahahah….

It’s a crazy midnight for me guys heheheh…pagpasensyahan nyo na hehehe.

[Reply]

@ otepus : Manilla Santos plays better as an open spiker than as a libero… Heheheh… Anyway, we’ll see her in action again next season :))

[Reply]

Heres my version of a mythical team…
BERNAL——OPEN HITTER
DAQUIS——OPEN HITTER
BALSE——-MIDDLE
SORIANO—–UTILITY
ALARCA——MIDDLE
SEMANA——UTILITY/SETTER
SERAFICA—-SETTER
Add’l open hitters…
BENTING and GOZALES
· I think the above line up is perfect…all of them are top scorers, serves well, impressive in blocking, including semana(she can block also, have different style and approach in attacking, receive and dig very well, quick and know what is a smart play, can execute perfect drop shots… I think soriano is perfect for back row attacks, aside from jean balse. only these two ladies executed it well this season…no need for a libero…semana can dig it all hehehe…

[Reply]

Hahaha!

Agree ako na si Mary Jane Pepito is currently the best Libero in the land, right now.

Hehehe…..

Even if ADU will get its second loss to UST, by point system or by set quotient, they will still have the top position, and if in case UST will win against ADU, UST will play against FEU for a tie breaker, that is, if both FEU and UST will manage to win its 3 remaining games, having 12-2 with UST.Otherwise, UST will be immediately pulled down to the third position. On the otherhand, ADMU and LA SALLE will most probably experience the same situation for a play off and win the fourth spot, if ADMU cant win its game against FEU and LA SALLE cant win its games also against FEU and UST.

Who will agree???

[Reply]

PA PASTE NAMAN PO NG SKED BUKAS

[Reply]

there is a big possibility that UST will not be able to secure atleast 3rd position after season 70 and even no special awards for its players. i know ADU will get its pride back and play hard on its last game against UST. Pag natalo sila ng ADU masisira ang concentration nila and will lose the third place against La Salle. and we all know na ang UST ay walang number 1 player sa lahat ng SPECIAL AWARDS CATEGORY. They might end up losing evrything in womens volleyball this season. La Salle on the other hand have a big shot for the championship, if they can beat adamson twice and go up against FEU.

[Reply]

agree kayo??? hehehe

[Reply]

Sana manalo pa rin ang UST.
Nakakatakot pag hindi. Alam mo yun, magkaka riot ng mga animo’y ulol na aso sa kalye.
Ayoko naman mangyari yun. Nakakatakot.

[Reply]

I hope i can still see FEU and UST in the finals, i know that this is super impossible for now, because the last possible meet up for these two powerhouses is the play offs, and one of them will go up against the number one team… ADU really stepped up this season and really did well in the past games and i can see that they really wanted the championship crown but FEU wanted this also, FEU wanted to get this crown from UST because the latter was able to snatched it from them last year…and we have to accept it,,, it would be alot happier and better if these two powerhouses will meet up again for the championship crown..

na notice ko lang.., magaganda pala lahat ng players ng ATENEO.. Lalo na yung #8.. charo of course.. =}

ateneo was really struggling in final four even in the absence of bea pascual who suffered her injury this season. if only bea is playing now with ateneo they can easily beat the laSalle players because pascual can block impressively and strong, but anyway thanks to miss charo soriano he helps elevate the team she is the number 1 in scoring as per records in uaap volleyball. she deserves to be awarded as the most valuable player(mvp) this season gud luck charo keep up the gud work

I’d rather see my team going to the final four than see myself getting the MVP award. For me MVP is just a bonus. I want to make history for Ateneo.”this is what miss charo quoted and did comment when she was interviewed a few days ago, she really is a humble and a down to earth person even though she deserves to get that award for being the best scorer in the volleyball league this season. this atenean girl i think likes to get that trophy not just by herself alone but as a team, even this girl always get the scores inside the court she remain humble and simple. i hope and encourage her team mates not to leave her behind inside the court, volleyball i think is a team situation so pls push yourself to the limits. i also hope that bea pascual well be well soon from injury she is a big factor and help to that team, her absence will put that team in a slow motion but charo is still there so i think they can survive and climb this highest hill. ballentine i think is a little bit slow when playing inside the court she should practice killing, jumping and down stroke smashing that ball, if ever iba and mapili n mvp this season charo should not worry coz many of her fans still wants to recognize her as the true mvp if you want a proof see her scoring stats and profile in uaap records, gud luck ateneo keep improving there are always room for improvement, bye?

I really wish and hope that ateneo will be in the final four this season before charo ends up his school yrs in ateneo and before her playing term expires.SHes been playing with this team for more or less 4 yrs. Charo contributed a lot not only in this team ateneo but also in the uaap womens volleyball as whole ,she is a big factor on why this game is alive and continue to shine this season, this sports is now being been recognize by most of the people, they are starting to watch in their tv homes, even see it live in ateneo gym, volleyball fanatic person started to cheer for their favorite team and players, so charo is one of those player who really helps this sports known and famous in this era now.Charo’s fans also get to noticed/appreciate her sportmanship inside the court, she is a very nice/smart person, she scores/plays relentlessly but yet remain to be a humble person, she also quote” that she want to give something in return/back to ateneo who taught and supported her in one way or another and in many things she accomplish right now. charo really is a model volleyball player right now and nice person to look into. i hope this girl will not stop playing volleyball because she had so many admirers and avid fans outthere who wants to see her playing volleyball inside the court . i also hope that Phil sports commission will create a proffesional volleyball team or philippine volleyball association where bussiness owners/proprietor can indorse their bussiness product and can able to sponsor a team like for example creating womens volleyball for purefoods team, alaska milk volleyball team, san miguel beer volleyball team, and talk and text phone pal volleyball team. This can be achieve and possible thru advetisement and aired product indorsement, where this college player can be given an opportunity to play after their playing terms in colleges and universities expires. Gud Luck to Miss charo soriano and to her volleyball career.

we believe that you can beat adamson, go ateneo be confident enough as the saying goes in psalm 23:4-Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me and
Psalm 27:1-The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

the only player i know na puedeng pumalo ng patusok sa ateneo besides their gp sunny is charo soriano, unlike adamson there so many option to choose from like bautista, laguilles, benting, segodine -all hard hitter athlete, kasi i observe ateneo is having hard time on beating this guys adamson since uaap season 70 and until now in shakeys v league.Charo is a very good player but she doesnt have many of her supporting cast to really finish the game off as the saying goes”its now how you start the game its how you finish it”,but i know na kaya pa nilang talunin tong adamson at ssc thru their blocking, reception and coverage as the saying goes’no guts no glory” and no retreat no surrender”, katulad nitong adamson na patusok kung pumalo ng bola all they need to do is to focus on non stop blocking and nice reception to frustrate this tough team adamson who really plays well this season, at tsaka ateneo should play volleyball smartly and wisely(with gulang) to distract and demoralize the adamson team who is unstopable in offense, go ateneo gud luck
