feu was good kanina. but i can’t say that they are better than ust for the simple fact that the tigresses were not in their usual form. gusto kong makanood ng game kung saan both teams are at their best. parang yung game 1 sa recently concluded v-league. yun talaga masasabi kong convincing ang panalo ng ssc-r. eh yung sa feu kanina parang wala namang gana yung kalaban nila.

oh well, ganyan naman parati ang tigresses. parang kala mo ma-e-eliminate na tapos biglang goes back with a bang!!! remember sa season 69, the rubber match with adu. then sa v-league may rubber match din with admu. they are the rubber match queens. never nagpapatalo sa games that matter!

It was no doubt that FEU played a good game plan. Sobrang astig ang floor defense, blocking and attacks. Sabi ko na nga ba decoy lang ang pinakitang line-up nung last na game nila. Daquis really was super fine in that game. Ang mga open hits nya sobrang superb.

So sad to say but UST’s liability is FEU’s strength.

And mind you. I think FEU is doing 6-2 nung first half of every round. Semana and Abanto take turns in setting and attacking which really lures UST’s defense. I thought Cuba lang ang nakakagawa nito. Whoa! May Philippine team na pala na pwedeng gumawa nito. Then they go back to 5-1 kapag pumapasok na si Jose. Labas si Abanto and then Semana will go back to open hitting. (Sobrang gandang play ito ng FEU… Hindi lang puro lakas… May science din!)

If UST can come up with the same line-up. Probably Tan and Torrijos. Torrijos is very flexible… Mapa-attack, block and even set. Meanwhile, Tan needs to work on the attack area. Oh, di ba.. Pwede na. May chance na. Kung hindi naman mangyayari yun.

May other things na pwedeng mangyari. Dimaculangan was doing good on other games. Pero ang pangit ng pinakita nya on the first set with FEU. And if all of us remember, eto yung line-up na tinalo ng FEU on the first round.

Coach August changed plans on the second set. Nilabas si Dimaculangan. Tan was brought back from middle blocker to setter position. Pinasok naman si Mance. The team performed better with this line-up. Sana retain na lang ito. With everyone tall. Superb na ang blocks. Sana si Mance itrain din sa quick hits para ayos na.

Narealize ko lang ang laking kawalan ng flexible player na si Roces. Siya kasi running, open, opposite and blocks sobrang okay.Pero that’s the way it is… They should maximize the resources.

Also they need to work on fast plays para hindi napepredict ng kalaban. Plus variations pa. Hindi puro open. Nakakabore kasi ang laro.

yeah, i believed that one of the factor why FEU defeated UST yesterday was because some of the key player of UST didn’t play/perform well! only venus strived hard to gain the momentum of the game, but that was n’t enough because she was not supported really well by her team mates. the opponent most of the time easily anticipated the attacks of venus that’s why she hasn’t delivered well. balse and tabaquero on the other hand were not really on their game mood probably because of the effect of the intimidation they got from FEU during the first set. even dimaculangan failed to deliver a great sets which led them into lost and bad offense! yeah, i believe that what’s UST’s liability, was FEU’s strength! they should also shift into a better and new game plan so that their opponents couldn’t easily read and anticipate their offense. while on the other hand, FEU really deserved their victory yesterday because each of them delivered and performed very well, so, that victory was gained because of their team effort! congratulations to wendyanne semana for the job well done!

bakit ganun, kapag sinabing rachel daquis ang unang papasok sa isip mo: ah, maganda yun o di kaya: ah un maputi at matangkad. pero pag sinabing semana: ah, sobrang galing na setter nun. tapos pag sinabing bernal balse ang unang papasok sa isip mo: ah, magaling yun, hataw sa spike… pero pag si daquis puro ung physical lang.. hindi masyadong appreciated ang talent sa volleyball. given na matangkad siya, dapat lang na mas madami pa siyang nagagagawa sa open spike. eh, pag hindi si wendy nag-set di na kaya. tapos puro errors din. buti na lng maganda siya. imagine, kung kamuka kaya niya si morada tapos ganon lang un skills niya katulad ngayon, mapapansin kaya siya? okay sana ang service kaso, hindi hamak na mas madami pang mas magaling mag serve. so wala din. sana gamitin niya ang tangkad niya. in short, be more versatile! hindi lang sana puro ganda.

100%different:, i really agree to what you had said about daquis…, she’s not really consistent when it comes with her attacks, unlike bernal, balse and soriano…, she’s very unpredictable, yet such a smart attacker. she’s not using too much power most of the time unlike manalo, her former team mate. if not with semana, i don’t think she could deliver great attacks and kills. that was why no matter how impressive her attacks were during their previous games, but still the officials chose semana as the best player, and that’s because of her all-around performance in court! one thing more, morada is more better than daquis if we will based their performance in consistency aspect… i’m sure that many would agree if we said that daquis is popular because she’s beautiful, rather that she’s a great player! LOLS!

Kahit UST mag champion, things will never be the same again. Their reputation has been tarnished already. Imagine, having been swept by FEU in the eliminations is no mean feat. Even if they beat FEU,say, in the semis, people will cast doubt on whether that win is tsamba.

After the first loss, UST Fanatics’ excuse was “Mance’s absence”.

But with Mance’s return, it seemed to me that things got worse at UST’s end. Is this a sign of UST’s impending doom? That was an incredible game by FEU over UST!

I really expected UST to rise up and take revenge of their earlier loss to FEU. But what happened was that FEU came out focused and determined to beat UST.

This was probably the best that I have seen FEU play this UAAP season.

I have to admit that I have now been won over by Rachel Anne Daquis. She is very pretty and very fair. And she is fantastic in the clutch. I would think that she has a good chance to be this season’s MVP as well as Binibining Pilipinas 2008.

I did not know that FEU played the 6-2. Where they always have 2 setters on the court at all times. Wendyanne Semana plays setter when she was at the back and a spiker when she was at the front. And Anna Camille Abanto was the other setter who did the same thing. That assures that FEU always has three(3) hitters at the front.

Big props to these setters who really varied their sets beautifully. They distributed the ball excellently, thus the very balanced attack numbers for FEU. And both Semana and Abanto really could attack and set equally well.

Wendyanne Semana just had a monster game. 8 or so points attacking, a couple of points blocking and double digit good sets. What a player! Reminds me of the Cuban National team players.

And rookies Shaira Gonzalez and April Lenor Jose were revelations. Especially Shaira Gonzalez who was very good on the attack. She hammered several spikes and also played some very good dinks. She will be very good for several years. And she is quite cute to boot

Rose Anne Taganas was excellent on defense. Her digs were consistently good. I did not think that she was that good, but she surprised me. She matched my beloved Joana Marie Torrijos in digging spikes off the floor.

Macaila Irish May Morada was truly the most offensively potent in the FEU squad. She was very consistent with her spikes and seemed to have been well prepared for UST.

I have to say that Coach Pamilar did a heck of a job getting his team ready to play UST. He seems to have scouted UST very well and crafted a game plan specifically engineered to beat UST. He was also able to get his players focused and well prepared for how to play against UST. It seems that every one of the FEU players knew what their assignments were, knew what they had to do on the court and knew their jobs. None of them seemed rattled and they were all just focused.

Special props to the way that Rachel Anne Daquis was used. She was maily used for closing out the sets. When the pressure was the biggest and FEU just needed points on the board. And of course, the beautiful Rachel delivered almost all the time.

What more can I say? FEU deserved this win, as a team. And UST has some catching up to do to be able to defend the UAAP championship this year. Anything can happen and I’m sure that Coach August will have his team ready to bounce back.

Makes me wish for the V-League again. I would love to see FEU, UST and Adamson go up against SSC-R, this time without any guest players. I suspect that those match-ups will be very interesting.

For UST, I was expecting that Denise Patricia Tan would start in the middle and Rhea Katrina Dimaculangan as setter.

However, when that didn’t work in the first set, they sent in Mance to man the middle and made Denise Patricia Tan the primary setter.

I must say that Denise has improved in her sets compared to earlier this season. But she still got an earful from Coach Santamaria every time there was a time out. But I am starting to see why she was named best setter in the UAAP last year.

In fairness to UST, I think that FEU’s Coach Pamilar really scouted UST very well. Taking note of UST’s plays and their tendencies. And he crafted a game plan specifically tailored to beat UST.

You can see it in the way that 2 or 3 FEU blockers were always waiting on the spikes from UST’s Bernal and Balse.

I would have thought that seeing this, UST would have made an adjustment and gone more to my faves Maria Angeli Tabaquero and Joanna Marie Torrijos. But they kept on going to Balse and Bernal, hoping to have them hammer the FEU defense.

As a result, Angeli never got into a rhythm and her attacks were mostly off the mark. And I never even saw a set go to Joey. Joey might have been effective with her left-handed spikes as a change of pace complement to Bernal’s and Balse’s power.

I also would have given a quick set or two to Hannah Mance. FEU obviously knew that when both she and Venus Bernal were up front, the set would always go to Bernal. So you could see the FEU blockers positioning and playing off Bernal’s position.

Same thing for when Angeli was in the open and Joey was at opposite, the sets would mostly go to Balse at the middle, thus the FEU blockers always positioned and played off the position of Mary Jean Balse.

But then again, what do I know. I ain’t the coach of the Philippine Team.

Overall, I think that UST did not give this game away. They were just outplayed and outprepared by FEU.

But, it’s still not over, there is still the Final Four and the Champhionship. So these two teams will still meet again somewhere down the road.

By the way, I also saw cuties Mellisa Mei Cu and Gian Carla Benedicto in UST’s bench. They show a lot of promise for the next generation of Lady Tigers.

no matter what they said and would say, let’s still give credit for the best performance of the lady tamaraws especially to their ever reliable and flexible setter, wendyanne semana! no matter how good a certain team is, but if it’s players were not really performing their tasks, i don’t think it will lead into a victory. and those victories of FEU against UST were gained because of the teams’ efforts and oneness!
coach august should have to change his game plans for the lady tigresses so that they could adjust well to the good defense and offense of their major opponents (FEU/AdU). one thing more, tan and dimaculangan must know how to make some varieties for their sets so that they were not be easily anticipated by the opponents. it’s a fact that UST has a lot of great attackers (bernal,balse,tabaquero) but the problem is, there are times that these spikers were being unpredictable with regards their previous games…, but in the end, it’s not really the strength and greatness of the teams would lead them into victory, instead, the willingness, determination and oneness of the players is the main motivation for them to deliver a good game!

I am not pretty sure but I think rankings will be determined on whose team has the highest point ratio in case for a tie.

Hmmm… di ba mejo unfar if based lang sa quotient?
Come to think of it, the 1st placeer will have a smooth sailing going into the finals. The tops 2 and 3 on the other hand will have a “fight night” so to speak, considering that the competition among the top 3 teams is very tight. WHoever gets the top 2 slot will have a helluva advantage over the number 3 spot.

However, if playoffs will be played among the top 3 to break the tie, the games will drain the players’ energy, thus giving the top 4 team an undue advantage.

My solution: TOSS COIN na lang!:)
