feu was good kanina. but i can’t say that they are better than ust for the simple fact that the tigresses were not in their usual form. gusto kong makanood ng game kung saan both teams are at their best. parang yung game 1 sa recently concluded v-league. yun talaga masasabi kong convincing ang panalo ng ssc-r. eh yung sa feu kanina parang wala namang gana yung kalaban nila.

oh well, ganyan naman parati ang tigresses. parang kala mo ma-e-eliminate na tapos biglang goes back with a bang!!! remember sa season 69, the rubber match with adu. then sa v-league may rubber match din with admu. they are the rubber match queens. never nagpapatalo sa games that matter!

It was no doubt that FEU played a good game plan. Sobrang astig ang floor defense, blocking and attacks. Sabi ko na nga ba decoy lang ang pinakitang line-up nung last na game nila. Daquis really was super fine in that game. Ang mga open hits nya sobrang superb.

So sad to say but UST’s liability is FEU’s strength.

And mind you. I think FEU is doing 6-2 nung first half of every round. Semana and Abanto take turns in setting and attacking which really lures UST’s defense. I thought Cuba lang ang nakakagawa nito. Whoa! May Philippine team na pala na pwedeng gumawa nito. Then they go back to 5-1 kapag pumapasok na si Jose. Labas si Abanto and then Semana will go back to open hitting. (Sobrang gandang play ito ng FEU… Hindi lang puro lakas… May science din!)

If UST can come up with the same line-up. Probably Tan and Torrijos. Torrijos is very flexible… Mapa-attack, block and even set. Meanwhile, Tan needs to work on the attack area. Oh, di ba.. Pwede na. May chance na. Kung hindi naman mangyayari yun.

May other things na pwedeng mangyari. Dimaculangan was doing good on other games. Pero ang pangit ng pinakita nya on the first set with FEU. And if all of us remember, eto yung line-up na tinalo ng FEU on the first round.

Coach August changed plans on the second set. Nilabas si Dimaculangan. Tan was brought back from middle blocker to setter position. Pinasok naman si Mance. The team performed better with this line-up. Sana retain na lang ito. With everyone tall. Superb na ang blocks. Sana si Mance itrain din sa quick hits para ayos na.

Narealize ko lang ang laking kawalan ng flexible player na si Roces. Siya kasi running, open, opposite and blocks sobrang okay.Pero that’s the way it is… They should maximize the resources.

Also they need to work on fast plays para hindi napepredict ng kalaban. Plus variations pa. Hindi puro open. Nakakabore kasi ang laro.

yeah, i believed that one of the factor why FEU defeated UST yesterday was because some of the key player of UST didn’t play/perform well! only venus strived hard to gain the momentum of the game, but that was n’t enough because she was not supported really well by her team mates. the opponent most of the time easily anticipated the attacks of venus that’s why she hasn’t delivered well. balse and tabaquero on the other hand were not really on their game mood probably because of the effect of the intimidation they got from FEU during the first set. even dimaculangan failed to deliver a great sets which led them into lost and bad offense! yeah, i believe that what’s UST’s liability, was FEU’s strength! they should also shift into a better and new game plan so that their opponents couldn’t easily read and anticipate their offense. while on the other hand, FEU really deserved their victory yesterday because each of them delivered and performed very well, so, that victory was gained because of their team effort! congratulations to wendyanne semana for the job well done!

bakit ganun, kapag sinabing rachel daquis ang unang papasok sa isip mo: ah, maganda yun o di kaya: ah un maputi at matangkad. pero pag sinabing semana: ah, sobrang galing na setter nun. tapos pag sinabing bernal balse ang unang papasok sa isip mo: ah, magaling yun, hataw sa spike… pero pag si daquis puro ung physical lang.. hindi masyadong appreciated ang talent sa volleyball. given na matangkad siya, dapat lang na mas madami pa siyang nagagagawa sa open spike. eh, pag hindi si wendy nag-set di na kaya. tapos puro errors din. buti na lng maganda siya. imagine, kung kamuka kaya niya si morada tapos ganon lang un skills niya katulad ngayon, mapapansin kaya siya? okay sana ang service kaso, hindi hamak na mas madami pang mas magaling mag serve. so wala din. sana gamitin niya ang tangkad niya. in short, be more versatile! hindi lang sana puro ganda.

100%different:, i really agree to what you had said about daquis…, she’s not really consistent when it comes with her attacks, unlike bernal, balse and soriano…, she’s very unpredictable, yet such a smart attacker. she’s not using too much power most of the time unlike manalo, her former team mate. if not with semana, i don’t think she could deliver great attacks and kills. that was why no matter how impressive her attacks were during their previous games, but still the officials chose semana as the best player, and that’s because of her all-around performance in court! one thing more, morada is more better than daquis if we will based their performance in consistency aspect… i’m sure that many would agree if we said that daquis is popular because she’s beautiful, rather that she’s a great player! LOLS!

Tulad ng inaasahan, walang nagawa ang mga tigre sa pagragasa ng mga tamarraw. Tila naging mga basang pusa ang inaakala ng lahat na mga tigre habang walang-awang dinaanan ang mga ito ng mga palo nina Daquis, Semana, Morada, at iba pa. Tila nakapako ang mga paa nina Balse, Tabaquero at Tan habang pinanuod ang pagbagsak ng mga bola sa kanilang teritoryo. Kahit UST mag champion, things will never be the same again. Their reputation has been tarnished already. Imagine, having been swept by FEU in the eliminations is no mean feat. Even if they beat FEU,say, in the semis, people will cast doubt on whether that win is tsamba.

After the first loss, UST Fanatics’ excuse was “Mance’s absence”.

But with Mance’s return, it seemed to me that things got worse at UST’s end. Is this a sign of UST’s impending doom? Maybe they should bring Roces back But then, aren’t UST Fanatics angered by teams getting imports? Maybe they should just ask coach whathisname to play as libero? I don’t know what to do with UST. I’m so confused. Plase help me UST Fanatics. Tell me your predictions ala Madame Auring.

daquis is not that really good player, unlike semana, manalo and morada, so there’s no reason for her to be conceited! afterall if it wasn’t for the efforts of her team mates, they wouldn’t win! she shouldn’t take the credit of their victory alone! her appearance in a certain commercial is not the basis in UAAP, but what really matters is her abilities, flexibility and athleticism!

That was an incredible game by FEU over UST!

I really expected UST to rise up and take revenge of their earlier loss to FEU. But what happened was that FEU came out focused and determined to beat UST.

This was probably the best that I have seen FEU play this UAAP season.

I have to admit that I have now been won over by Rachel Anne Daquis. She is very pretty and very fair. And she is fantastic in the clutch. I would think that she has a good chance to be this season’s MVP as well as Binibining Pilipinas 2008.

I did not know that FEU played the 6-2. Where they always have 2 setters on the court at all times. Wendyanne Semana plays setter when she was at the back and a spiker when she was at the front. And Anna Camille Abanto was the other setter who did the same thing. That assures that FEU always has three(3) hitters at the front.

Big props to these setters who really varied their sets beautifully. They distributed the ball excellently, thus the very balanced attack numbers for FEU. And both Semana and Abanto really could attack and set equally well.

Wendyanne Semana just had a monster game. 8 or so points attacking, a couple of points blocking and double digit good sets. What a player! Reminds me of the Cuban National team players.

And rookies Shaira Gonzalez and April Lenor Jose were revelations. Especially Shaira Gonzalez who was very good on the attack. She hammered several spikes and also played some very good dinks. She will be very good for several years. And she is quite cute to boot

Rose Anne Taganas was excellent on defense. Her digs were consistently good. I did not think that she was that good, but she surprised me. She matched my beloved Joana Marie Torrijos in digging spikes off the floor.

Macaila Irish May Morada was truly the most offensively potent in the FEU squad. She was very consistent with her spikes and seemed to have been well prepared for UST.

I have to say that Coach Pamilar did a heck of a job getting his team ready to play UST. He seems to have scouted UST very well and crafted a game plan specifically engineered to beat UST. He was also able to get his players focused and well prepared for how to play against UST. It seems that every one of the FEU players knew what their assignments were, knew what they had to do on the court and knew their jobs. None of them seemed rattled and they were all just focused.

Special props to the way that Rachel Anne Daquis was used. She was maily used for closing out the sets. When the pressure was the biggest and FEU just needed points on the board. And of course, the beautiful Rachel delivered almost all the time.

What more can I say? FEU deserved this win, as a team. And UST has some catching up to do to be able to defend the UAAP championship this year. Anything can happen and I’m sure that Coach August will have his team ready to bounce back.

Makes me wish for the V-League again. I would love to see FEU, UST and Adamson go up against SSC-R, this time without any guest players. I suspect that those match-ups will be very interesting.

For UST, I was expecting that Denise Patricia Tan would start in the middle and Rhea Katrina Dimaculangan as setter.

However, when that didn’t work in the first set, they sent in Mance to man the middle and made Denise Patricia Tan the primary setter.

I must say that Denise has improved in her sets compared to earlier this season. But she still got an earful from Coach Santamaria every time there was a time out. But I am starting to see why she was named best setter in the UAAP last year.

In fairness to UST, I think that FEU’s Coach Pamilar really scouted UST very well. Taking note of UST’s plays and their tendencies. And he crafted a game plan specifically tailored to beat UST.

You can see it in the way that 2 or 3 FEU blockers were always waiting on the spikes from UST’s Bernal and Balse.

I would have thought that seeing this, UST would have made an adjustment and gone more to my faves Maria Angeli Tabaquero and Joanna Marie Torrijos. But they kept on going to Balse and Bernal, hoping to have them hammer the FEU defense.

As a result, Angeli never got into a rhythm and her attacks were mostly off the mark. And I never even saw a set go to Joey. Joey might have been effective with her left-handed spikes as a change of pace complement to Bernal’s and Balse’s power.

I also would have given a quick set or two to Hannah Mance. FEU obviously knew that when both she and Venus Bernal were up front, the set would always go to Bernal. So you could see the FEU blockers positioning and playing off Bernal’s position.

Same thing for when Angeli was in the open and Joey was at opposite, the sets would mostly go to Balse at the middle, thus the FEU blockers always positioned and played off the position of Mary Jean Balse.

But then again, what do I know. I ain’t the coach of the Philippine Team.

Overall, I think that UST did not give this game away. They were just outplayed and outprepared by FEU.

But, it’s still not over, there is still the Final Four and the Champhionship. So these two teams will still meet again somewhere down the road.

By the way, I also saw cuties Mellisa Mei Cu and Gian Carla Benedicto in UST’s bench. They show a lot of promise for the next generation of Lady Tigers.

Langya, talagang ginawang chat box ang comment section ah. Hoy, mga FEU fans. If you only read the comments by some UST supporters, makikita ninyo na puro praise nga ang binigay sa team ninyo eh. FEU did really well yesterday kaya nga tinalo ninyo USTe eh. Pero madami pa rin kayong satsat. Beside, hindi ninyo ba nakita ang mga UST supporters after the game? They we’re clapping their hands out of respect for your team especially when you were singing your school song. Samantala ang ibang FEU fans, nag-alisan nung time na namin kumanta ng school hymn.
Again, UST fans and supporters know when to admit kung talo kami. Yesterday, our players did not play their A-game so to speak. remember last season 69 when ust and admu faced at the basketball finals? there was this interview with a couple of admu players and fans kung ano ang nafefeel nila that they are going to face ust in the finals. a lot of them answered back na masaya sila coz ust supporters are respectful and give credit where credit is due.

moral of the story: di mayayabang ang ust fans. solid lang sila sa group na sinusuportahan nila.

Gonzales was a big revelation yesterday. Her spikes penetrated the blocks of the UST kasi during the V-league she’s actually a non-factor. Pero ngayon superb game for her. Ok game ni Daquis that game, I suggest mag take na rin ng glutathione UST para gumaling sila lalo hehehe….

no matter what they said and would say, let’s still give credit for the best performance of the lady tamaraws especially to their ever reliable and flexible setter, wendyanne semana! no matter how good a certain team is, but if it’s players were not really performing their tasks, i don’t think it will lead into a victory. and those victories of FEU against UST were gained because of the teams’ efforts and oneness!
coach august should have to change his game plans for the lady tigresses so that they could adjust well to the good defense and offense of their major opponents (FEU/AdU). one thing more, tan and dimaculangan must know how to make some varieties for their sets so that they were not be easily anticipated by the opponents. it’s a fact that UST has a lot of great attackers (bernal,balse,tabaquero) but the problem is, there are times that these spikers were being unpredictable with regards their previous games…, but in the end, it’s not really the strength and greatness of the teams would lead them into victory, instead, the willingness, determination and oneness of the players is the main motivation for them to deliver a good game!

Hmmm… di ba mejo unfar if based lang sa quotient?
Come to think of it, the 1st placeer will have a smooth sailing going into the finals. The tops 2 and 3 on the other hand will have a “fight night” so to speak, considering that the competition among the top 3 teams is very tight. WHoever gets the top 2 slot will have a helluva advantage over the number 3 spot.

However, if playoffs will be played among the top 3 to break the tie, the games will drain the players’ energy, thus giving the top 4 team an undue advantage.

hay..so sad ng matalo ang ust last Sunday. Bigla akong nanghina badtrip pero like ko din ang FEU lalo na si Rachel Anne Daquis hehehe. KAhit sino manalo sa kanila okay lang wag lang ang Adamson kasi mas masasabing volleybal ang nilalaro ng ibang team compare the way how they play…hehehe peace!

Hehe, oo awat na. I’ve said my piece na rin to the people concerned. To clarify, I’m not an FEU fan nor am I a UST hater. I’m a fan of volleyball that’s why I want this sport to progress. To do so, we have to eliminate all blockades.

At the end of the day, I wish all the teams the best. May they continue to inspire the young ones and the young once.

Play hard, but play clean.

To the supporters of all teams, I know its so hard to control one’s emotions at times but please be reminded that our acts today may come to haunt us in the future.

I’m not familiar with the quotient system but I have some questions:

If the team has higher points earned over another team, doe that mean it has a “superior” quotient?

If so, how will that team be considered “superior” when it took that team more number of sets to beat the opposition?

she would be a great loss to FEU, but that’s reality, though it realy sucks! anyway, i just wish jose and abanto goodluck for their upcoming years in UAAP. and to my idol, wendyanne, goodluck to your future endeavor. hope to see you for the next conference of shakey’s v-league!

Hi ryshan, yup I saw that one of my faves, Maria Angeli Tabaquero, was a bit serious during this game.

I actually could count on my one hand the number of times I saw her smile on TV. Which was a bit disconcerting as every game of UST I have watched so far, she is always smiling.

I guess tao rin siya and she sometimes have off days.

I actually read somewhere that she had a nagging injury yesterday. That plus her off target performance probably combined to spoil her mood during the game.

But I also read that after the match, she gamely posed for pictures with her fans and was gracious with her time. So I guess that she recovered from whatever was bothering her.

I just wish I was there to help her out (I know, in my dreams only)

To ilovevolleyball, wag kang mag-alala, si Coach Santamaria, lahat sila pinapagalitan, hindi lang si Angeli.

Lalo na kahapon, lahat yata pinagalitan niya. Nung isang timeout, nakita ko ngang nagalit siya kay Balse at kay Denise eh.

A few games ago, nakita kong nagalit siya kay Benedicto kasi hinarangan siya sa huddle. Hehehe….

Iyun ang magandang coach, iyung walang pinipili. Basta nagkamali ka, pagagalitan ka.

Actually, the coolest coach I have seen in the UAAP this season is coach Candoy of NU. Even when the game against UP was tight and NU ended up losing, he kept his cool during the huddle and all throughout the game. Level-headed and calm pa rin siya sa pag-instruct ng tactics at strategy. And iyung motivation niya sa players, malumanay pa rin.

Additionally, I noticed that he kept the game simple for his wards. His instructions were actually basic and proper volleyball techniques.

I think that the announcers commented on that saying na baguhan pa lang talaga iyung NU squad kaya coach Candoy was really building up from scratch.

To all volleyball fans of FEU and UST:

It is a great pleasure to read your comments regarding the game between FEU-UST yesterday. Please allow me to give my congratulations to the FEU team of coach Pamilar for playing a good volleyball game. They came prepared for UST attacks and offense. There perimeter defense foiled and frustrated the offense of UST. UST gave there best to come back, but it wasn’t there day to make miracles. I talked to coach august, it seems his libero is sick with a viral infection and Mance was just discharged from the hospital due to viral infection also, which she is not yet in top shape. With players getting sick and your reserve players cannot step up in the absences of his top players performance. How can a team win? With these circumstances, I may say, UST was put a position with their backs against the wall. UST must develop mental toughness in the game, so that they could make wonders during the game. They will be the champions for nothing, if they will not be physically and mentally prepared for every game. For the FEU team, I would like commend the great performance of Wendy Semana, because she is the key of the team’s attacks and points. She is a better setter than a spiker, because she sets her teammates well that brought the best out of them. She distributed the ball evenly, wherein they were orchestrated their C play, long quick, slide plays, and running plays flawlessly. Her spikers such as gonzales, morada, abanto, and daquis delivered when they were needed a point in the game. I am looking forward to the 2 new players of FEU – Vivas and Semera. Vivas saw action in the FEU-UP game, where she demonstrated a potential open spiker. She can leap and glide high, with good shoulder strength and powerful spikes. If not for her right arm injury, she will be replacing Rachel Daquis as the primary open spiker. She is now rehabilitating her right arm, and trying to get back in the team. She will be the future of the FEU in the years to come. She can replace daquis anytime. I don’t intend to hurt the fans of Rachel Daquis, she is a good player but she has to improve her playing skills, such as spiking, attacks, and digs for her to be a reliable and dependable open spiker with high percentage hit. I hope she will not be the Anna Kournikova of UAAP Women’s volleyball. She has to bring it on for her team to be crowned champions. Congratulations to Coach Pamilar, you again out coached coach august. Keep up the good work!

Hmm, I’ll have to disagree, in a friendly way, with that post by DocRitche.

I think that Rachel Anne Daquis is actually the best spiker that FEU has at this time.

I know that Morada is very good and so are Semana, Gonzalez and Abanto.

But in clutch situations, it will be Daquis who delivers, again and again. She is fearless and is very inteligent with her spikes.

If she is replaced as primary open spiker even though she can still play, then I think that FEU will be making a big mistake. And if so, they might as well kiss their chances of ever beating UST or AdU goodbye.

Yes, they have great teamwork and they have a smart coach in terms of strategy and tactics. But every team needs an elite player who they can count on during crunch time. And Rachel Anne Daquis is the one for FEU.

UST has Bernal, ADMU has Soriano, UP has Castaneda, AdU has Laguilles.

And no, I don’t think that Daquis can be replaced anytime, just like that. Maybe, and that is a very generous maybe, these other FEU spikers can come close to her in skills, but they still have a long way to go in terms of clutch playmaking.

Anyway, I doubt if coach Pamilar will bench Daquis if she is able to play. And he would be correct in keeping her FEU’s primary open spiker.

I think some UST fans’ delusional praise for their team can be described by this hypothetical anecdote:

FEU defeats UST in 99 straight games, all in 3 sets. Tsamba pa bang matatawag yun? OK. I think I have to side with Go_UAAPTeams_Beat_UST on this one. We all know that the Tigresses are very tough, pero we don’t need to decimate the Lady Tams’ talents to mere “tsamba” if they won. GOD.

Cheer na lang para sa teams. There’s no need to sourgrape of your team lost.

UST fans didn’t start this “heated debate” between the tigresses and the lady tamaraws..if you trace the origin, an FEU fan started this…UST fans do not use rationalization to cover up their team’s loss..they are simply relaying facts, so to speak…everyone knows what the tigresses can do and what they are made of…FEU just played their best that’s why they won on both games..having said that, i don’t take anything away from FEU..regardless of the result, UST is and forever will be a great volleyball team and a great champion…i know majority would prefer the tigresses over the lady tamaraws for many reasons but i won’t lay them down because they may vary from one to the other..and i believe that there is no need for UST fans to be taught how to observe humility because in the first place, they already are…it just so happens that someone from the other side triggered a domino effect of “bashing” and “name calling”..mouths were shut before hand but when one started to degrade the tigresses, silence no longer became an option..at the end of the day, the tigresses will remain the EPITOME of greatness when it comes to volleyball because if they were only mediocre, then they wouldn’t have become part of the national team..i believe what the tigresses have achieved and showed over the past years speak for themselves..greatness will always be the twin sister of the UST tigresses..the league isn’t over so conclusions should not be made at this point..no matter what happens, GO USTE!!…

Hey. I am a solid fan of UST. You really have a point there. Some fans of tigresses cross the line by trash talks. But my point is… getting even by “bad mouthing” each player.

Kung lahat na lang has the same attitude as yours, walang mangyayari. I believe the comments started out good. Pero kung ganito lang… sana tanggalin na ni SpikeItHard ito. Its not doing any good.

This kind of comment boxes should be for adults. Not for people who just want petty quarreling and pointless debates.

chivas dapat ganun ang mangyari…dapat yung laro ang tinitignan at hindi kung ano ang pisikal na anyo ng mga manlalaro… its too unfair for them, in every game they put their heart on it and gave their best shot tapos sabihin mo lang tsamba at pangit..they dont esrve it…i hope i made my point very clear… BOBO ang patuloy na nangaalipusta sa pisikal na anyo ng isang taoat ayaw umintindi sa nais kong iparating…….

There are 3 things that you should know:

#1) I and UST Fans will never be hurt by your empty words and invalid statements. Post whatever you want. I hope you find the most tasteful chocolate to put sweetness in your mouth.

#2) We are not sick. You can never be the cure. With all the things that you said. You can never be the cure for other teams either.

#3) FEU Fans and Players doesn’t need a lawyer. You did not graduate law to defend (in a very inhumane manner) these people and because for the main fact that they don’t have to.

All your comments thrown each other regarding the team you are supporting is inappropriate, because we are still watching the eliminations. We have to wait for the final four and finals which team deserve to be crowned champions. The final four and finals brings out the best in one’s team to achieved their destiny. Up to now, it’s anyone’s ball game. It could be UST, FEU, or ADU emerge the champion in this season. This will depend on how the teams prepare physically and mentally in every game they will come across. Let’s just show our support and prayers to the teams that we admire, and help them achieve their goal. At the end of the day, we just all love the game of volleyball.

i believe that bernal, balse and tabaquero are more consistent than daquis…! daquis is too unpredictable with regards her spikes, one thing more, she couldn’t even execute her attacks well if it wasn’t semana giving her nice sets! she seldom adjusts well if the set for her is not really good! morada, manalo and semana are more better than daquis if we will base it in consistency and flexibility!

we should atleast respect each other guys, afterall, we all love volleyball and our teams! whoever team will emerge as a champion for this season, we should be happy for it. each of our team has their strengths and weaknesses, so it’s really up to them on how they’ll going to maximize those strengths and minimize those weaknesses on the otherhand…, just like what i always say, it’s really up to the player’s determination and willingness that lead them into victory! so let’s just wish our team goodluck and better performances for our favorite players!

Actually masarap kumakampi sa mga under dogs. I could remember when the World Grand Prix was staged here, it was Japan vs Germany and the latter was seeded to win but eventually Japan came out strong and defeated Germany. Almost all the audience that time was for Japan. Ang saya nun ang liliit ng mga Japanese tapos tinalo mga towering Germans.

The following stats are calculated this way:

Match points – a match won gets 2 pts, and a match lost gets 1 pt.

Points ratio(quotient) – points won in a match/points of the opponent in the same match

Set ratio(quotient) – sets that was won/sets that was lost

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the UAAP follows the FIVB standard that if teams are tied with their match points, the points ratio is used to determine ranking.

First off, im not GAMOT sa UST ok? Our server was down a while ago so I could not access the net. Needless to say, the ignorant, adamant, utterly stupid supporters of UST are back, hence, the need for another round of medication.

I do understand now that being stupid is an addiction: the process of curing them is gradual. That is why we have to give them regular medications.

please don’t get me wrong…, i didn’t intend to provoke or annoy you, what i was trying to say was that daquis is not really consistent and flexible player compared to her team mates such as morada, semana and manalo(former FEU player). i don’t have nothing against daquis, infact i did say on my previous comments that she was a smart attacker because she knows how to convert her attacks into a sure point! it’s just that i was not convinced at all when you said that she’s more consistent than bernal, balse and tabaquero. mind you, these three spikers of UST are on the Top 10 best attackers of the posted stats, and unfortunately, daquis is not included in it. i am a fan of USTe, but i somehow admire the great performances of the players of FEU, so i could say that they really deserve their victories against UST, because they really performed and played well! i even personally admire wendyanne semana because of her all-around performance in court, what a great player! i mean she’s not really a good setter, but also an intelligent attacker, good digger and ever-reliable player in general! i hope you wouldn’t take my comments towards daquis as too personal criticism…, i was just stating of what i observed to her previous games. I do agree with you about the grand prix in 2000 was the time Japan once beaten Germany. Japan always caught the hearts of the Filipinos when tried to upset the powerhouse team of Cuba. They had the 3rd set score of 34 – 32, Cuba won that game but Japan showed them a great game even they lack the height and strength of Cuba. Cuba was crowned Champions in that year and became the gold medalist in Sydney olympics.

This is how point system goes….

Major consideration is:
Won Games over Lost Games
Whoever has the greatest quotient if you
divide no. of won games by no. of lost games
the team is on the top. (WG / LG = QUOTIENT)

If there would be ties after that
first consideration, then scores
(as in points) wON POINTS(raw scores) over
Lost POINTS, come in, (before kasi set
quotient which is
Won Sets over Lost Sets, binago na ng FIVB,
i think last year).
Coz think of it what if you won the set
lopsidedly, example 25 – 4, it shows that
sets have lesser impact than scores coz
you only allowed yourself to lose 4 points.
Its more okey to lose a set with scores of
23 – 25 coz no one dominates greatly.
Remember the your opponet’s scores are the
points you allowed your team to lose. It
means though your opponent has won this set,
however they won it the hard way.

The last consideration is the SET Quitient =
WON SETS over LOST SETS.

Remember that it is the Quotient that matters
in determining the POINT(QUOTIENT) system.

i have several things to point out… i am a big ust fan just because angeli tabaquero and i went to the same high school together… (although we’re not close and i often thought she was a lil arrogant) but you know, just seeing a batchmate make it big is really something to be proud of… i agree, i’m not so impressed with daquis, she is a little slow than most open hitters, and if their setter is not semana, she would just be a regular ‘good player’… therefore, i credit feu and adamson’s dominance to their setters, semana and serafica… if you are vb players, u will know that a spiker having an off day can’t make a team lose, but a setter having an off day will definitely do… i am really really impressed by semana, a good national team member hopefully… the spikers that really amaze me are bernal, balse, tabaquero and soriano…

i was really amazed by charo soriano’s performance yesterday… i never thought she was this good… my god, that’s what a versatile spiker is!!! hitting quicks, runners, open hits and heck, even the hardest spike of all, backrow attacks!!! wow! that is what the philippines is missing, because guys, thinkao pleumjit of thailand is unstoppable because she’s a threat even if she’s on the back row!!! u’ll really be amazed because soriano’s setter is not that good if u’ll compare her to semana and serafica… c’mon, im sorry, but im not really impressed by benting and laguilles and so… they’re delivering bcause of serafica… impressed ako sa spikers na mgaling khit di kagalingan ang setter… i think daquis was accepted into the national team because she is good, but also because she’s tall… pag mas pinaliit mo cia, i doubt she’ll ever get to the national team… i think castaneda of up is also a really good spiker, because she’s versatile… di lng cia open hitter, nag bbackrow rin (although charo is the queen of that kind of attack), runner, and quicker…kung nsa ust lng cguro si castaneda, ust will be almost invincible…

We share the same observations with Rachel Daquis kind of game. If wasn’t for their setter, wendy semana, she will be having points to convert. She is quite slow for a open spiker and percentage of a hit is quite low. Unlike, gonzales, who happens a rookie shows a great potential as a open spiker.

yeah, i forgot to commend shaira gonzales… pra sakin nga, mas type ko ang itsura ni gonzales… hehe… skin lng nmn un… shaira gonzales is really fast… a good open hitter at mukhang kayang maging versatile… ang hirap kasi kay rachel daquis, she can’t be other than a open hitter (the gurl commentator of uaap games also pointed this out) because of her approach…

i will disagree to you both… DAQUIS may not be as quick and as versatile like SORIANO and BERNAL but she has the ability to think fast… if she knew that she cant hit hard, she will think of another way of getting her ball off the block… am not saying that BERNAL and SORIANO are not thinking but lets face it DAQUIS has the quality that you cant see in other players… We cant compare one to the other because they are different.

I do agree with you. It’s a good thing that the BASHING of some the people stopped for the mean time. They forgot that, this a commentary section not a chat box. I want to see these people to support and pray for their teams in the final four and finals, because this is the time their favorite teams need it most. This is the point of no return, the loser will go home with the remorse of better luck next season. Those teams that will face in the finals will pour out their very best to prove they deserve to be there, and be called the CHAMPIONS. ONLY THE CHAMPION DESERVE TO BE CALLED “BEST OF THE BEST”.

i would have to disagree with you on that one… kung utak lng, bernal is definitely one of the most ‘mautak’ players in the uaap… i guess we can compare soriano, bernal and daquis because they’re all open hitters… i respect ur opinion, but i’ll stand with mine, soriano is way better than daquis… versatility is one of the most important things in a volleyball player…

here’s my idea for a good philippine team line-up:
open hitters: bernal and soriano
Middle blocker: alarca
Utilities: balce and castaneda
setter: semana
libero: i heard that pepito is really good, so i guess she can also belong here…

the reason why i chose castaneda and alarca is because obviously, of height… castaneda is faster, and taller? (im not sure though) than daquis and is more versatile… alarca is a very good blocker and has a very good service… she’s also a versatile spiker and is fast considering she’s that tall…

i must say, i was amazed by up’s last televised game… although hndi kalakasan ang klaban nila, i can say that i see good potential in this team… its better if they let lopez set rather than nario… nario has no variation in her sets, unlike lopez… up lng ang tnging team so far na na uutilize tlga ang combination play… i really enjoy watching up play… hehe…

Here’s another side of the story of what happened after the FEU-UST game.

The referee was offside

Dennis Balore has called his last football game. The Universities Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Capital Region Football Association (NCRFA) banned him for life from working any football games.
After working the University of Santo Tomas-Far Eastern University football game at the Ateneo De Manila pitch last Sunday, January 27, the longtime referee made his way to the locker rooms beneath the gym where the showers and dressing rooms for athletes are located.
The designs of the rooms are such that the walls between rooms do not fully extend all the way to the ceiling making any loud conversations or noises easily discernible to anyone in the next room. In the adjacent changing room were players from the women’s volleyball team of UST who also just concluded a match against FEU. While changing, UST player Hannah Mance saw a hand holding up a mobile phone from the other side of the room. For weeks there have been rumors among players of the different schools taking part in the tournament of someone taking shots of players but none have come forth with any formal complaint or proof. Mance immediately went out of the locker room and reported the malefactor to FEU coach Ernesto Pamilar who was leaving his team’s dugout.
Balore sensing that he may have been discovered quickly made his way out of the referee’s locker room but Pamilar and other coaches and players caught up to him outside the gym. They accosted the football referee and asked him if he was taking videos of the players. Balore denied any wrong doing but he was brought to the Ateneo Security office located outside the playing venue.
His Nokia N91 phone was confiscated and a player from the University of the East was asked to inspect the phone’s contents. After checking the folders, the player broke down in tears when she saw several pictures and videos of different players including her teammates. At this point, some of the team coaches began to take swings at Balore forcing the school security men to shield him from the wrath of the school officials, players, and concerned parents. Said one Ateneo security man who refused to be identified, “Galit na galit yung mga tao at malamang kung hindi namin siya pinasok sa loob ng isang office baka napaano na siya. Pero hindi naman kasi tama yung ginawa niya.”
I spoke to Ateneo’s Charo Soriano who was able to see some of the phone’s contents. She said she felt disgusted by what she saw because the pictures were rather distasteful.
During the melee, Ateneo security officials said that players and coaches from other schools took the opportunity to erase some of the files. It is believed that the phone contained videos of players from De La Salle, Ateneo, UST, FEU, and UE.
When I visited Balore at a common jail cell at the Criminal Investigation Unit at Camp Karingal in Quezon City, the 30-year old former player from Tondo High who also played with several club teams was apologetic. “Hindi ko alam kung ano yung pumasok sa isipan ko. May naririnig akong mga babaeng nagtatawanan and naguusap at tinaas ko na lang yung cellphone ko.”
Balore also denied that he’s been taking videos and pictures of the volleyball players for sometime now something that the complainants dispute. If the videos that were left were of UE players, it is worth noting that their match was played in the morning. Balore was caught taking videos of UST players and their match ended at past 4pm. Several coaches believe that Balore had accomplices because for someone to actually take videos from outside would entail great risk of being discovered. A member of the Ateneo coaching staff said he “would need a lookout.”
He is grouped with 21 other detainees at the Criminal Investigation Unit at Camp Karingal. His fellow detainees who are jailed for various offenses such as snatching, thievery, and other similar crimes are wondering why he’s in the same cell as he is. “Hindi naman ganun ka grabe yung ginawa niya,” said one who refused to be identified.
After consultation with Ricky Palou and Rick Du from the Ateneo Athletics Department and Edwin Barber, UAAP Volleyball Event Coordinator from host school UP, complainants from UE were accompanied to Camp Karingal, in Cubao, Quezon City for the filing of charges. Two of the UE complainants are reported to be under age. The UAAP is also said to be deliberating on whether to file separate charges as well.
Palou clarified that only two security guards were requested by the host school and they were deployed inside the arena for crowd control. In light of the recent developments, another guard will be assigned to man the entrance leading to the dugouts where players, coaches, and school officials will only be allowed inside.
Balore who played football for Tondo High and various club teams is pleading for clemency. “Humihingi ako ng tawad sa pagkakamali na ginawa ko. Wala akong intensyon na ibigay yung kinuha ko kung kanino man. Sana mapatawad niyo ako para makalaya ako. Ako lang kasi ang inaasahan ng pamilya ko. Balore has four children with the eldest being 12 years old. He asked his son who loves football as well to concentrate on his studies since the sport doesn’t pay well here in the Philippines.

It is sad, but Balore should have thought of the FIFA dictum of “Fair Play” before his moment of madness seized him. /rma

1. bernal:because she has power and initiative…long arms for blocking as well..
2. soriano: she can hit, block, dig and receive pretty well..she is also very quick..
3. alarca: very high reach..great blocker and server..tactical hitter..
4. roces: very quick on the court..great blocker and powerful hitter..
5. balse: she can do it all..=)
6. maizo: same as alarca plus the fact that she can set the ball..
7. castaneda: she has great blocking ability and has the quickness as well..i think she has potential to be one of the best..
8. semana: same as balse minus the height..=)
9. de leon: same as semana plus the fact that she serves pretty well..
10. tan: she has the height and the serving ability..she can also be used for blocking..
11. suarez: taganas of FEU and penano of DLSU combined..=)
12. pepito: what she showed during the most recent v-league says it all..

i think if the RP team wants to use the 6-2 combination, they can make use of balse and maizo since they already know how to set..they can train more to polish their setting skills but i think that’ll take some time..soriano roces maizo in the front line with balse in the backline as setter..and when the frontline players rotate to the back, bernal roces and balse in the frontline with maizo in the backline as setter..

i would also agree with you that lopez has been doing a better job as a setter for UP compared to nario..the hitters are playing better because they are given good sets..

To UST.. u still got some games to prove that you can be on top again.

I saw the game on tv and i can say that the biggest factor why UST lost to FEU are the setters.
Semana and Abanto did a good job setting up their attackers while Tan and Dimaculangan did a poor job. Way beyond what is expected of them. We cant deny that UST has the powerhouse line-up when it comes to attackers; they have Bernal, Balse, Tabaquero… But how can these prolific attackers deliver good kills if they can’t have good sets.
What do u think guys.

i think the setting was a factor in the loss but i have to say that the biggest factor was their receive. i can’t put majority of the blame on rhea and denise. they were just trying to make do with what their teammates gave them.

hmmm… i beg to disagree with benting being on the line up… if i’m not too impressed with daquis, im way more ‘unimpressed’ with benting… she reminds me of michelle carolino… michelle carolino was dominating in the uaap and shakey’s v-league, but when i saw their match against thailand, she was really really useless… she could not get an attack at all… her spikes are very weak (if you’ll compare it to balse’s and macatangay and pimentel at that time), the only reason why she dominated in uaap and v-league is because of chi saet… the same goes with benting, she only does well because of serafica… benting often gets less blockers because the blockers are faked by serafica… plus the fact that benting isnt tall… i’m looking at it this way because we want to be able to fight thailand decently… and in international competitions, height is really something, unless you’re really really good (semana!)

For the RP team to compete internationally, they should have tall and great volleyball players. Height is Might! The caliber of RP players, we now have, are not that good as compared to 13 years ago, when we last won the gold medal in volleyball in the SEA games. Through the years, we didn’t have the same quality players like natalie cruz, thelma barina, salak, ybanez,roxanne pimentel, and so forth. When volleyball was played by side-out and the ball was white. Players before are power hitters and leaps high. Women volleyball players that time plays like the men. The training was so rigid, and the selection process to be in the RP team was strict and difficult. For us to play again internationally, we have to encourage young tall kids to try volleyball rather than basketball. There should be a long-term volleyball program that will build up a team that will compete internationally, just like what thailand is doing.

if i’m not mistaken, hannah suarez is the starting libero of the national team..i know semana is better than tan basically because she can do it all..however, the height factor is still taken into consideration…that’s the disadvantage of semana..also, i have not seen an FEU-SSC match that’s why i can’t judge whether taganas is better than pepito..they are both good though..

i would also say that soriano is a better choice as an outside hitter than daquis considering the fact that soriano can do it all with the exception of setting..with that, i would make balse the utility and suzanne roces as the middle blocker replacing balse..as i posted earlier, the RP team can make use of the 6-2 combination via maizo and balse as setters/spikers..i would stick with soriano roces maizo in the frontline with balse as setter in the backline..when they rotate to the back, bernal alarca and balse shift to the frontline with maizo as the setter in the backline..i would opt for hannah suarez as starting libero or sharmaine penano, the former libero of dlsu..the starting six would have the height, power and agility..

I would have loved to continue with La Salle and ADMU’s stats pero masakit na ulo ko hahahaha.

Again, if stats will be solely based on sets won and lost ha…d rin kasi ako sure if yun lang or the points won/lost are taken into account as well.

i’m not trying to imply that daquis isn’t a good outside hitter..she is good because she was chosen to be part of the RP team..however, i think soriano is better than daquis..

soriano is a better blocker than daquis even if daquis is taller..power-wise i would say daquis may have the edge..versatility-wise, soriano edges daquis because of the latter’s approach..when it comes to floor defense, soriano is way ahead of daquis as soriano is the number 1 digger however, serving-wise daquis is better..when it comes to backrow attacks, soriano beats daquis..

if you compare these two players, soriano can help the team much more because she can basically do it all..not only can she help out at the net but she can also be a solid defensive player..power isn’t everything in the game of volleyball although it offers great help..the overall ability of the players is taken consideration..with that, i think soriano deserves the first six spot over daquis..

I would have to disagree with you both. I prefer having nerizza bautista over daquis and soriano. She happens to be the guest player of Adamson during the V-League and she is a high percentage attacker compared to this two (though im not sure)

oo nga… i remember seeing nerissa bautista in ateneo dati sa v-league (i dont know what year that is), she was the gurl i was trying to remember kasi akala ko nsa ateneo cia… what’s good with soriano kasi is she’s perfect when she’s in the back row because she’s an excellent (or good bka may mag disagree) digger plus she’s the only one (only two?! if you’ll consider balse, kaso hndi pa mciadong ok ung kay balse kase from the middle cia nag aapproach tpos sa middle din ang bagsak, unlike kay soriano na cross court, which is the best form of backrow attact… i.e. nadia centoni of italy, if you’ve seen this girl play, you’ll be really amazed by her backrow attacks! although soriano is not in the same league as centoni is yet, she’s the closest one we have in terms of backrow attacks) dati i dont like soriano, pero after that game against la salle (which i wanted la salle to win) i’ve become awestruck by soriano’s excellence…

i really liked (note the past tense) michelle segodine to grow more as a player and eventually be on the philippine team kasi mtngkad din cia at mgaling, plus the fact that she’s a lefty… lhat ng mga vb players, khit nga hndi, alam na mhirap depensahan ang lefty… iba kasi ang psychological effect pag lefty ang ibblock mo… kaso ang ybang eh, nkkainis… nung game nla against dlsu, grabe nybangan ako… ang tntarayan pa cna alarca, hernandez mercado, llaguno, datuin, eh ang lau nmn ng itsura ng mga un sknya! Here’s a secret.
The approach of the coaching staff of UST for the season is for the team to just play their game. To ease the pressure of being the defending champion or the powerhouse that should not be beaten. If UST is pushed against the wall or need to win they are invincible. Asa trend nla un starting not strong in a game but as the game progresses or if they want to, they are capable of winning. I’m not insinuating that they are guilty of not playing to win. Of course, they play every game to win.

Sabi nga ni coach august nung set 3 against FEU. Wla kyong gana tapusin n lng ntin to’.They are just playing their game, accepting any shortcomings, errors; adjustments they need to make, or simply mean welcoming defeat which is inevitable. You simply cannot put your A-game the whole season because that is very tiring. This theory applies to any powerhouse team and this is what happened to UE in basketball. Winning 14 consecutive games or having unblemished record is tiring physically and mentally, plus the pressure ‘of being invincible’. It’s hard to experience all the adjustments you need to make during the finals. You should have to experience it before the season ends. FEU and UST is experiencing it right now. Most of the coaches and experts know about this theory. And they know the capabilities of UST as the defending champion.

Games are won by many, but championship is won by one.

Varying of sets will help UST win against AdU. If we are to look back at their game against FEU, the FEU defenders almost always knew if who will attack the ball so as always triple block lagi. Kundi nalang talaga malakas ang spikes ng UST di cla makakapuntos.
