I think that only Wednesday and Sunday games are televised.

Fantastic games yesterday, I couldn’t believe that Adamson won over FEU in stright sets. Coach Minerva really had her girls ready to play. Even the announcers were suprprised, espeially coming off the FEU win over UST.

The game between ADMU and UST was awesome. I was happy to see that Karla Bello was able to play. But her timing seemed to be a bit off. According to the announcers, she still had some nagging injury problems. Which explains why the coach kept on rotating her with Limengco.

Char Soriano was just abused the whole day by Venus Bernal. She even got a facial when one of her monster spikes got blocked by Venus straight into her face. Buti na lang medyo naka-iwas siya. But I’m sure that Soriano will bounce back next game. In fairness to her, nahirapan siyang pumalo kasi medyo off iyung timing nila ni Limengco. Which was usually caused by the not so perfect receiving of the ADMU diggers. Furthermore, I heard that she also had some nagging injury problems like Bello.

Denise Patricia Tan was a pleasant surprise being inserted in the line-up for the hospitalized Mance. She was ok. Although there were times when her setter insticts got the better of her and she was doing the setting even though Rhea Dimaculangan was right behind her. Also, Denise had a lot of service errors. Nawala lang siguro sa pulso. But her defense was superb. And she was her usual cute self.

Rhea Dimaculangan was solid, as usual. Though I couldn’t help but notice that she wasn’t varying her sets as she usually does. I could count with one hand the number of times she set to Joanna Marie Torrijos behind her. She usually went to Bernal or Balse most of the time. And to Maria Angeli Tabaquero as secondary option. Rarely to Torrijos.

The defense of UST yesterday was very good. But ADMU helped them a bit as ADMU committed copious amounts of errors.

I think that ADMU also missed Pascual, who usually is a solid anchor on the front and back.

This coming Sunday’s game between UST and FEU will rock da house! I’m sure that FEU will be smarting from the loss to Adamson while UST will be smarting from their lost to FEU. It will be a game not to miss.

Actually, I think that mas gumaganda sila kapag pawisan sila. Hehehe…..

I like the way the Angeli’s short hair clumps in small bunches when she sweats. And her smile is to die for.

And I love the sweaty sheen on Joey’s face when there is a close-up of her. Especially when she serves. Her serving motion is just grace personified.

I really don’t see the hype about Denise Tan or Rachel Daquis. They’re pretty, yes, pero IMO Daquis usually scores on off the block hits. Mas madalas pang makapatay si Morada or the rookie Shaira Gonzalez. I also agree na mas maganda na magset ngayon si Dimaculangan kaysa kay Tan, and that came as a surprise to me because she won the Best Setter Award last year. Either Serafica and the others are extremely bad last year or talagang way off lang si Tan these past few games.

UST is beatable and it has been proven. If we will base it on individual raw talent, no team comes close to them. Volleyball is a team sport. Individual talent doesn’t count if you will not utilize them well as a team. Adamson is strong because of their teamwork. Adamson has quick hitters, but they are lacking in height (compare to UST standard) and in their vertical leap. What makes them strong is their teamwork. You are like playing against 9 players; almost all of the corners are covered.
The same with FEU they have good coaching staff. Bannered by Daquis- one of the best players of the country today (by skills) although suffering from her injury. FEU is a strong team because of their teamwork.

UST is the standard in volleyball today. If we will set aside stats and based it in individual skills; 8-14 players from the UST are in the top 15 (UAAP only). 3 players are only exposed and they are not the top 3 in terms of statistics. Charo Soriano is a talented player. But even the other bench players of UST are better in terms of individual skills (not by stats). Like Cu, she has an edge in leaping ability and quickness. Even their rookie Curato (libero) has exceptional skills. Denise is a high school standout and was an original attacker before she was trained to be a setter. If their players will be scattered to different teams they will be the main scorer. If you know how well their training camp is, you will be surprise how talented their players are, up to their last bench player. Give credits to their coaching staff, team mgr. Fr. De Sagon, trainers, all the men and women behind the program. Their program and recruitment is top of the line.

We are thankful for the exposure of the sports. If this will continue and the other schools will emulate the program and recruitment of the UST, we will be a force to reckon with in Southeast Asia. There are a lot of potentials in the country waiting to be discovered.

There is no question about the skills of Denise Tan. Why is she having a lesser minute now? There is a reason. Each piece of the team contributes to the flow of the team. Maybe there is another gameplan which is more suitable for Dimaculangan. We do not know the personal reason why she is having lesser minutes. We can only speculate. But I am certain that there are no questions regarding her skills. It is within the prerogative of the coaching staff to employ a better gameplan for the team.

Adamson is a strong team and a contender in the finals. I admire them for their good coverage of the court because of their teamwork. But there is no individual who has that caliber of the individual skills of the UST players and Rachelle Anne Daquis.

Daquis’ injury is already a testimony how good she is. That kind of injury (by not wearing ankle support) is not common for a lady of her height. Her lateral movement, her leaping ability, and even her hangtime is not ordinary for her height. She may not pile up points and lead in statistics but her individual skills is exceptional.

Other UST players may not be well known specially their bench players. They may not be impressive coming in off the bench. Like Carla Benedicto, she may have jitters and may not look how good she is in playing the game, but her height and raw talent is ahead compare to the other players of other schools. She can start on other schools and even dominate. If we will create a national team today, including the alumni. Most of you will be surprise to find out, that half of the team will be from the UST where in fact only 3 are known to dominate in statistics. UST is a powerhouse in terms of individual skills. The program and recruitment of UST is outstanding.

Anyway, UST is beatable, anyone can be in the finals, even AdU vs FEU is possible. But the rivalry today is UST vs FEU. UST players and Rachelle Anne Daquis have a lot of following. UST and FEU game is one of the factors that makes the sports popular today.

i am hoping to see her for the enxet shakey’s v-league conference, playing in UST team. though she’s not a power-hitter, but most of her attacks were successful especially her favorite running-spike hit! she also knew where to find the opponent’s hole, so once she drops the ball it would surely be a point. she really blends well to the players of UST like mary jean, venus, angeli and denise, although most of the time, rhea gives a better set for her to have a nice and flawless attack! lastly, she’s the coolest volleyball player i’ve ever seen, plus the fact that she’s really a certified “ASTIG!!!”
