January 9, 2008. Wednesday. The Venue: the dimly lit but cozy Ateneo Blue Eagle gym. It’s funny to see a lot of new buildings being put up almost every year within the Ateneo campus when the Blue Eagle gym seems to always look a bit old and outdated. I don’t think an entirely new gym needs to be put up to replace it but a major renovation job will be much appreciated. Maybe just improve the lighting by investing in a state-of-the art (ummm… whatcha call dat…) lighting. Hmm, but that could be another reason for an increase in tuition fees next year. Just a thought.
UST eradicates NU
In a less than an hour (57min), the undefeated Lady Spikers of University of Santo Tomas defeated NU in 3 straight sets: 25-13, 25-12, 25-12. Best Scorers were Angeli Tabaquero of UST with a total of 13 won points and Michell Bautista of NU with 5 points. UST advances to a 5-0 record while NU drops further to 1-4.
Adamson crushes the Lady Eagles in 3 straight sets
(Eradicates, then now crushes… what the hell! Don’t blame me, I just use what MS Word suggests). Lady Falcons versus the Lady Eagles. It’s one of the much anticipated games. Because the winner of this match-up would most likely be the best team to play against UST for the finals. Not discounting FEU Tamaraws of course who are enjoying the services of star player Rachel Anne Daquis again. Yup, she’s back and she’s hot! To summarize the game, Adamson literally crushed the hearts of the Lady Eagles in 3 straight sets: 25-14, 25-13, 25-22. Best Scorers were veteran Rissa Jane Laguilles of Adamson with a total of 19 won points and Charo Soriano of Ateneo with 6 points. I only had time to watch and take photos of this game yesterday. The first set already spelled out the outcome of this game. It was obvious that the Lady Falcons played a lot better with less errors. You can tell they wanted to win the game more than their opponents just by looking at the faces of Ateneo’s players. The Lady Eagles seemed out of focus. Jump serve specialist Rissa Laguilles of Adamson ended the set with an ace at 25-14.
The second set was somewhat a replica of the previous one. At the start of the set, Laguilles provided points for her team by jump serving well - giving the Ateneans a hard time which disrupted their game play. It was 11-4 with Adamson piling up a huge lead early on. At the 22-11 mark, the Lady Eagles were still lifeless inside the court. Don’t really know what happened to them. They were so off. The Lady Falcons took the second set as well at 25-13.
The Lady Eagles finally started to come alive during the third set. The crowd (mostly Ateneo supporters obviously) cheered louder for the Eagles at the 7-all score. Just when you think Ateneo was going to fight their hearts out to win the match, a stroke of bad luck hit them. Ateneo’s main setter Karla Bello twisted an ankle or maybe that was an entire leg? She got injured so badly she had to be carried away. Trisha Anne Limgenco had to come in for her. The game continued with the Adamson Spikers showing no mercy.

You know, I really didn’t see that coming. Two injuries in a single game? That’s really bad. And dear Karla Bello…
I had really high hopes for Ateneo because they have really improved. But they really have to work hard to make up for the lost of a good setter and blocker.

and do we have any updates here on the latest happening on the BEST SCORER race? I believe its UST now leading the chart? (It was not mentioned eh) so probably theres a little sort of * hmp i dont know…hehehehe

I think he already explained that he’s a former Ateneo spiker so it’s only natural na he would post Ateneo games here. Anyway, may link sa pdf file na mayroong stats somewhere in the posts here. It was still Charo Soriano who leads, but after the UST-NU game, I think Bernal or Balse may have moved to the top spot.

Charo is still #1 in the MVP Race with 97 points followed by Venus Bernal with 84 points, Mary Jean Balse with 83 points.
I have to give credit to Adamson for playing with their heart. As for Ateneo, it is such discouraging to see your team having an off-game and even losing a player in Bea Pascual. Whoah. That’s like the bad luck of all bad lucks. Tsk tsk tsk. The question now is will the Lady Eagles be very slow to recover from what happened last Wednesday or will they be quick enough to recover and play some God damn inspired volleyball and might be even be poised to make it to the championship? We’ll never know.

and besides, this is his website so he has the right to post whatever he wants. kung gusto mo ng puro UST, maghanap ka ng pro-ust na website. Also, the owner of this site tries his best not to be biased and all. It’s just that he gets most of his information and materials from his friends which are from ateneo as well. And even if this is the case, he is still able to provide information about other schools as well. nakikibasa na lang tayo, demanding pa.

perhaps you should read “about spikeithard.com.” this is not an official website for UAAP updates. it’s just that the owner of the blog loves volleyball as much as we do. we can’t blame him if at some point he tends to be biased. If i have my own website it will be PRO-UST.

To add to what lukaret had said, tsss (how do you pronounce this?), there is no way that anyone can be totally unbiased. May leanings ka whatever you do and you have to give spikeithard the credit for even trying to be fair. Just because you’re a UST supporter doesn’t mean that all the other teams are crap, and that you have to make others think the same as you do.

maizo and the other girl (i think it was mabbayad…hope got her name correct) already left UST… i think they graduated or something… mabbayad’s last stint in UST was during the May 2007 shakey’s v-league, while maizo’s was the recently concluded v-league…

I feel bad for ADMU for losing both Bello and Pascual, they are both very good players and very cute as well. Bello will be missed especially, being the steady setter of ADMU.
