After losing their opening match against UST, the De La Salle Spikers redeemed themselves by sweeping Letran in 3 sets: 25-18, 25-13, 25-12. La Salle makes full use of their height advantage with players like Maureen Penetrante, Michelle Datuin, and Maria Carla Enrica Llaguno. As for veteran Manilla Santos, she now takes on the libero position for the team. Very interesting and logical I must say. I was able to watch the first few sets of the match. Stephanie Mercado was doing everything for La Salle. I heard (from the commentators) that she’s the daughter of Lydia de Vega, the runner. Hmm, no wonder she’s very athletic and can jump high.
Letran’s Bangladesh Pantaleon seems to be the only Lady Pirate who can dismantle the La Salle defense and score points for her team. In fact, she’s the Best Scorer for Letran with a total of 13 won points. She knows how to effectively deflect the ball to her advantage when faced with tall blockers. Damn, she’s small but terrible! Letran’s poor performance in the V-League is not attributed to their small lineup but rather because of their overall performance that seems to lack maturity.
