i think shakey’s v league was able to contract some of the player in thailand, why does shakey’s v league will contract players in vietnam, taipei and korea to know who is the most powerfull import player in the nation. i wish shakey’s v league will not concentrate in thai import only, instead they contract import player in korea and vietnam.

I would like to Congratulate!!! Shakey’s V League for putting up such league/tournament like this because you are promoting volleyball here in Philippines and give volleyball players a chance to continue their effort in playing after college… Kudos!! to all the Organizers of this league. One thing I would just like to suggest is that I hope you’ll also put up Men’s Volleyball League…I hope it’s soon…Thank you and more power!

Hey guys, it seems that there is an updated game schedule as per the organizers. I’ll post it here at Spikeithard.com as soon as I confirm.
[Reply]
OK wiseguys.. what channel will carry the games this time.. hopefully, it’s full length..
I hate to see a whole game in 30 min.. with advertisements added….

What cannel and time can i watch it’s delayed telecast?
[Reply]
@TO ALL: As always, all games will be held at the San Juan Gym. For this coming conference, TV network NBN (Channel 4) will telecast the V-League.
[Reply]
thanks for all the information..by the way, may we know what time will NBN4 air the games? and will they air everything or only the highlights of the game? Thanks a lot… nice site!!!

who won the first game between the tough rival UST vs La salle?
[Reply]
@MIO: I wasn’t able to watch the opening games, sayang. I was busy. But here are the scores:
25-23, 25-21, 27-25 Adamson defeated FEU
25-16, 25-22, 25-11 UST defeated La Salle

who are the players of each team?

I would like to commend the Shakey’s V-League for making volleyball alive again here in the Philippines. I was just wondering when will the distaff side(men’s) tourney ever begin/organized. Just asking.
One comment though: Is it fair enough for the Ateneo Lady Spikers to get an import, more so that the one they have is Thai? I mean if they win the champioship this time around, will we place an asterisk mark on the team that won because of getting help from an outsider? That’s pathetic.
GO UST!
[Reply]
@LAKERFAN_1975: Hmm, you’ve got a valid point. All teams in the V-League are equally privileged to acquire their own imports whether it’s local or foreign. I guess it just so happens that Ateneo is rich enough to afford acquiring (I would assume) expensive Thai players. In fact, the whole team went to Thailand and did some world-class training there. Wow! Kudos to the school’s sports program backed by wealthy alumni. But then again, if Ateneo wins and it’s because of their foreign players, it would seem a little bit pathetic but I see nothing wrong with that.
(Hmm, I’ll be posting an entry and post some action pics from Ateneo’s training camp in Thailand. I’ll do this by next week!!)
That is why people should also watch out for the upcoming UAAP Volleyball this November. From what I heard, both the women’s and men’s tournament will be televised. Now getting this type of exposure wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the Shakey’s V-League.
[Reply]
Oops! I forgot to mention…
GO ATENEO!
[Reply]
I Love Stephanie Mercado… She Improved A Lot… Amazing… (–.)
[Reply]
Save for the privilege of having imports. What an excuse!
Yeah. Pathetic as they are and as you mentioned in your reply, the Blue Eagles get an import or two from Thailand in their quest to win the V-League. Call it world-class training huh! I’ll call it this way, Ateneo can’t win it fair and square against the opposition! What kind of sports program do you have? Even the hiring of Norman Black didn’t help your team a bit this year, which also included 2 imports.
Albeit DLSU and Ateneo are also keen in getting import-American’s like Logan Tom and Misty May-Treanor. How pathetic!
And how many UAAP women volleyball titles does Ateneo have? From the UAAP’s inception, Ateneo has 5 titles. And UST, whoa 9 championships.
For your info, UST has won 7 men’s titles, Ateneo only 2. In the V-league, UST has 2 titles, one in its 1st season, and the 1st conference of this year. It also has 2 second place finishes.
For your Ateneo, a mediocre 7th place finish in this year’s 1st conference. Huhuhu!
But for your pleasure, I’ll be willing to get a Cuban import next year for our UST team, but I guess the people of UST won’t need them imports, for they’re loaded of skills and talent, and they play a fair game of volleyball.
Lastly, our Growling Tigresses are loaded with beauty and charm too. Patricia Denise Tan, wow!
[Reply]
@LAKERFAN_1975: Hehe! Akala ko LaSalista ka but it’s apparent that you’re yellow-blooded. I think “guest players” whether they’re local or ‘imported’ add excitement to the whole tournament. And this is one of the things that separates Shakey’s V-League from UAAP.
Hmm, it seems that the trend of acquiring foreign imports is far from being impossible to happen in UAAP. (Think of foreign exchange students, haha). When it comes to UAAP volleyball supremacy, hats off to Coach Santamaria and your UST! But being so big-headed about it is so pathetic.
There’s one more thing that I agree with you though: Denise Tan got beauty and talent!! Woah!
October 21, 2007 (Sunday)
3pm - UST vs ADMU (telecast date: Oct 22 Monday)
With Suzanne Roces now playing for UST as their guest player, I must say your Growling Tigresses are even stronger and more solid than before.
GO USTE!! Mheaaoow!! But I’m still cheering for Norman Black and Ateneo Women’s Volleyball team… GO ATENEO!! Goodluck to both teams.
[Reply]
Hey, what happened to SSC-R? Where’s Bualee? I realy love the way she play. I didn’t feel the excitement yet on the previous games as seems like the players were lack of energy. Hope to see a good game in the coming days.
[Reply]
thank u…. now i know what’z happening in v league……
[Reply]
hay….c roces nsa ust ulit…. i’m confidence na pnlo ulit ang mga uste….??!?!
[Reply]
Haha. Come to think of it, getting imports, is legal. How about having two birth certificates and having the UAAP Board to discuss if that school will be suspended next year? Hehe. Just kidding. Well, let’s just pray for it.
i think what ateneo did is legal, there isn’t any rule as to getting imports as illegal. and besides, if not for the ateneo athletic directors and ateneo team managers, there wouldn’t be v-league. look at who founded, funded and started the league, jun bernandino, an atenean himself, then there’s ricky palou, the ateneo sports director as well as tony boy liao, the ateneo women’s volleyball team manager. without these three ateneo minds, volleyball is still a sport that is not too popular, diba?
i mean ust fans can rant out about ateneo getting thai imports, but at the end of the day, it is still legal and we all have one goal and this is to promote volleyball
okay?
[Reply]
Oh, and by the way, hehe, Ateneo has won 6 women’s volleyball championships. No team in the UAAP has won more than 4 consecutive championships I think. The only team who achieved a 4-peat was UP in 1977-1980 and Ateneo in 1981-1984. In fact, it is quite funny because UP and Ateneo faced in the Finals for 8 years and the first half saw UP dominated over Ateneo and the next saw Ateneo dominating over UP. It is like the UST vs DLSU in Men’s Basketball in the 90s where La Salle duplicated UST’s 4-peat. Hehe. The closest teams who almost achieved a 4-peat were actually FEU of 2003 but lost to La Salle in Game 3 of the Finals as well as La Salle who also was suspended last year.
Did you know also that the UST 2002 Championship of their Men’s Volleyball was mostly from the 6-peat Champions Ateneo Juniors Volleyball team? Hehe. Well, until now there are Blue Eaglets in the UST Mens Volleyball Team pero bilang na dahil I believe sa Ateneo Mens na sila napupunta.
[Reply]
you see miles.. UST has won 9 women’s volleyball championships.. Ateneo has won 6.. does it really matter if it’s consecutive or not?
UST has won 13 2nd place finishes while ateneo had 6. UST has never been out of the final four, ateneo had been out 5 times.
and it’s not UST’s fault that the ateneo juniors volleyball players opted to play for the UST Men’s volleyball team.. it’s not illegal as well..
lakerfan_1975.. the imports are there to spice up the tournament.. it’s in the rules.. it’s legal..
although.. i still think that ateneo can make it without them..
i go for ust, dlsu, ateneo and ssc-r for the final four…
no flames intended..
[Reply]
there’s too much hype placed on their trip. i don’t think ateneo expects to automatically be champions because they’ve trained for 3 weeks in thailand, or because they’ve acquired a thai import. most probably they want to achieve more long term goals than just this season’s vleague or UAAP. is it really pathetic to want to improve the team’s skills for future endeavors?
as for the thai import, well, if its something the school wants to invest in, then so be it. although, volleyball is a team sport. i don’t think one person can make a team get the gold.
p.s. last time i checked, ust IS the philippine national team. dapat kayang kaya yung isang ex- national team player, galing man siya sa ibang bansa, diba?

MANILA, Philippines — Sports Vision director Rhea Navarro can hardly wait for the next phase of the Shakey’s V-League.
Two topnotch teams from the Visayas — CESAFI champion University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu and reigning PRISAA champion University of St. La Salle in Bacolod—will join the four Metro Manila teams that will not qualify outright to the semifinal round.
Sports Vision is the organizer of the V-League which is currently in the homestretch of the elimination round of the first conference.
* * *
“This is the very first time provincial teams will be participating in the V-League. USLS, which boasts pretty and talented Fil-Am Marcelina Yandall, is coached by former PVF (Philippine Volleyball Federation) president Roger Banzuela,” Rhea said.
“USJR, on the other hand, is mentored by Grace Antigua, one of the best volleyball players ever produced by our country. A SEA Games gold medalist, Grace was a member of the RP women’s team that brought home three gold medals in l981, l985 and 1987. The last time the country won a gold in the SEA Games was in 1993.”
According to Rhea, Cebu’s USJR is currently on the lookout for a guest player who will reinforce the team.
“Actually, they don’t have to look far. Grace can coach and play at the same time. She can be a volleyball player-coach,” Rhea said.
* * *
But active playing could be farthest from Grace’s mind. She has been pushing for bosom buddy Thelma Barina, a member of the l993 SEA Games gold medal team, to be the guest player. Thelma is reputed to be the best lady spiker of Southeast Asia during her time.
Although she is probably now in her mid-forties, Grace believes it would be a good idea for the young volleybelles to play with and against Thelma because they will learn a lot from her. In spite of her age, Grace said, Thelma can still give budding stars a run for their money.
USLS will be led by Teresa Valdez, Sheryl June Denila, Laedy Cepeda, Patty Orendain, Realyn Valeriano, Kay and Loverich Aplasca, April Hingpit, Era Shane Celis, Sheryl Silva, Je-Ann Ledesma, Kristalien Lopez and Yandall while USJR will parade Genie Sabas, Michelle Simbajon, Genesis and Perlyn Soliva, Avegale Getuaban, Rachel Singson, Sarah Miculob, Princess Canda, Cristy Laroga, Angela Lacno, Mary Joy Bonita, Gwendolyn Gutang and Erika Verano.
Players of both teams have managed to impress Shakey’s marketing director Meggie Jose, who recently returned from the Visayas to personally look over the two teams. She said the Southern volleybelles are tall, sexy, good looking and talented.
She has photos to prove her claim.
The quarterfinals of the Shakey’s V-League starts on May 4 at The Arena in San Juan.
[Reply]
The Quarter Final round is fast approaching and remaining teams who have not qualified for the semis have one more week to change their guest players, if ever they really want to boost their campaign in this conference’s edition of the Shakey’s V-League. The tentative start of the Quarter Finals is next week, May 4, which might feature an Ateneo vs La Salle opening. La Salle, meaning the University of Saint La Salle Lady Stingers who will be coming from Visayas together with University of San Jose - Recoletos Lady Jaguars.
Jaroensri Bualee, a name familiar to almost all Shakey’s V-League Fanatics, is back again to play for San Sebastian College - Recoletos Lady Stags. The Season 4, Conference 1 MVP is fresh from a tournament in Vietnam as Guest Player. It is no question that she will once again play as Open Spiker for the Recto-based team and will add more power to the already-powerful San Sebastian spikers. Current Guest Player, Suzanne Roces has RP Team commitment and has expressed that it is fine to give way as long as the team will benefit from it. Phee Jang Bualee will have Luann Latigay, Cheng Ancheta, Sasa Devanadera and Jinni Mondejar as support in terms of power and scoring.
Lithawat Kesinee meanwhile, is taking a summer break from her masters in Rattana Bundit University and has expressed to help the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles once more in getting the first-ever V-League crown. It is no question too that Phee Nok Kesinee will play Middle as that is one of the positions that Ateneo really needs in their quest for the title, a legit middle blocker. The Season 4, Conference 2 MVP is known for her blocking prowess and running attacks. Jindarat Kanchana, their preliminary round guest player, went home to Thailand for personal reasons. Along with Phee Nok Kesinee, expect strong support from league’s leading MVP candidate Charo Soriano, Karla Bello, Kara Acevedo and Patti Taganas.
The Quarter Finals will follow the same format as the preliminaries however instead of a two round robin format, the Quarters will only have one round robin which makes the games more “important” and “do-or-die”. Expect the six teams namely Ateneo de Manila, Lyceum, Far Eastern U, Benilde, La Salle and San Jose to really give out their best and to give us exciting games as four teams will be eliminated after the Quarter Finals round. The top two will of course, move on to the Semis. However, if any team wins three out of five games, they will have the right to challenge the second seed after the Quarter Finals even if they are not among the top two. Psychological advantage is with the top two teams of the Quarter Finals since momentum will be on their side while the outright Semi Finalists Adamson and San Sebastian take a two-week break.
